Thank you for making a video that shows the basic settings and also how to change them! I've been considering a few cameras, but this is the first video I've found that shows what it would be like to actually handle the camera, so I'm very grateful!
I just received my T4i a few days ago. What a lot I have to learn! Thanks for the help identifying all the buttons and features. It was extremely helpful.
Excellent review of all the camera settings. Reasonable pace, perfect visuals, clear, straight to the point. I also appreciate how you skip two minor things ("Don't know that, don't want to make anything up") as it shows your credibility. I am now ready to experiment with this camera my brother generously gave me when he bought a new one!
I so needed this, Gayle! I went to the camera shop yesterday for help and my camera is no where near as great as yours. I am happy for you. Thanks for posting.
Metering Timer - What does it do? It sets how long the meter is active in Live View. While recording video (or using Live View, or setting up for video) if you tap the shutter button, the metering display at the bottom of the screen will be active for the time specified in the menu. It doesn't seem to have any bearing on the meter or metering functions when using the viewfinder
I have watched this great video several times and every time I learn something new. Please keep them coming. Without you I would not have been able to use my camera to its fullest. Thank so much!!!
Hey! I just received my Canon T4i. This video was by far the most helpful in understanding my camera as a beginner. I appreciate your work and look forward to more videos using and working with the T4i. Especially with other lenses and video modes. Thanks! Excellent!
Thank you for this tutorial! I learned so much in those few minutes and feel a lot more powerful! (Also, Im sure it may have been said but I remember from my T1i that the "Jump 10" feature means that in the review mode, if you turn the dial, it will skip 10 images to help u get to the beginning more quickly). Thank you again and I am subscribing!
I'm so glad I found your video. Very helpful in helping me understand all the different settings on my new camera. Your video has been the most in depth one I've seen so far on the Canon EOS Rebel T4i. Thanks again!!
Bought 650D (T4i) a few days ago.. It's great! I do nightlife photography, and it does the job pretty well! And actually, that touchscreen is quite smooth for now.. Don't know about you guys, but this camera is great for begginers and such.
Thank you sooo soo much for this video!!! I´ve just got that camera and I was like... I dont have the time to read the manual.! So this helped me so much! Im surely gonna watch some of your other videos so I can understand my camera even better!! Thank you again!
Hey man, i just got my camera today. thank you very much for this video it helped me so much and now i understand how my camera works and hopefully use my camera in its full potential.
This is a awesome video thank you so much it is very helpful. Best part of the video is when you admit to not knowing what meter timer is. I love when people are just honest instead of bullshiting.
This is the camera I want to get. I'm so close to having enough for it. This is really good and informational, I tired playing around with one in a store... But could not figure it out. This is so helpful. and also.. What lens should I get with it?? 18-55mm?? Or 18-135mm??? Thanks.
thanks man clear and focused overview of the settings, helped me a lot to understand some of the stuff in the menus. thumbs up! ps. anybody asking about the T5i (700D) - it's the same layout so you can use this vid for that model too
Just bought this camera, thanks for uploading this overview, really handy. Usually I like user reading manuals but seems there is a lot of extra stuff I really don't need. So yeah thanks again this! :)
Thanks man! I just picked up a T4I, my first SLR! :) This helped a LOT. But to answer your question about why to take pics without an SD Card when you were going through the menus... There is a good reason for that. The camera could be wired into anything from a simple instant photo editor, to advanced things like medical imaging devices. I recently had pictures taken of my retina. This was a special box I looked into and fixed to the top was an SLR Canon camera :) Hope that helps!
Thank you for the very clear easy to understand video. I'm a DSLR newbie and learned tons, I'm looking forward to see your other tutorial videos. You have an subscriber.
Hey Shon, A quick Question, I just start using DSLR recently and I am a big fan of your videos, but why when following your tutorials in the manual mode, I see all photos are darker than the auto-mode I set the F, Iso, and shutter speed but even following what you just say, its gives me a very very darker photos than the auto mode gives to me. I could see a button where I can control the flash but even going up to 2 still gives me a blurry and not clear photo, any advice? Cheers, Abdo
I learned more from this Basics video than I did reading the entire manual. Havent went to your channel yet. Im hoping theres something there about Zooming when shooting video. Thanks
thanks a lot man I'm subscribing to your channel. This is great and it's free! How cool is that. And people complain about the internet and technology and people staring at their phones.. i mean this is a great era.
Great video, for sure very helpfull for the one how do not want to read the canon book! However, ii would add as tips that the 'Q' button is on the left bottom side of the touch screen, that user can disable the explanation message that pops up every time you touch one fonction/setting on the screen (which i belzive could be very helpfull for beginer to undestand what they are doing). As a result of those 2 tips: the touch screen allow user to set the 650d in a really fast and easy way. Thanks
thanks! just bought this camera and just subscribed to your channel. I will be needing your videos for sure - even the dummies book I also bought has so much information. :(
Thanks so much for putting these videos out there. Very helpful for an amateur like me trying to learn in my free time. I had to chuckle when you commented on the "release shutter without card" feature. For me, I need it disabled and am glad there is an option! I've taken a few photos before realizing my card wasn't in the camera because I had it enabled. I had my card in my laptop card reader to transfer and edit and forgot it was there :/ Do you do tutorials on Lightroom or Photoshop?
Thanks for the intro to the T4i. I am considering purchasing one but I don't want to loose the way my wheel and buttons work on my T3. I really don't like touch screen either. A couple helps: The metering timer determines how long the meter stays active and displays the settings after pressing the shutter half way down--battery saver. And as for WB bracketing, I suppose if you need fill flash and your ambient light does not match, and you don't have the right gel with you, this may save you.
The jump 10 images option is so when you use the dial to scroll through the pictures it will skip ten images at a time. Good for when your doing a timelapse, you can see the movie developing,
there is a movie mode on the main command dial next to the auto scene modes. I believe you also have to use the button on the back (top right next to the viewfinder) to start and finish the video rather than the shutter button.
Im a big fan of all your work! I was wondering if you can make a video on something that seems so simple but yet i have trouble with.....Printing out the pics in a proffesional way .. settings etc where do you go to get prints what are some of your personal favs pics you have printed
I had the exact same dilemma a couple of weeks back. The price is almost the same, so the battle was on picture quality, build and features. On the 650D, you get higher ISO range, touchscreen (which isn't just a gimmick, it's actually quite useful, such as pinch zooming to review) quick flick of switch to movie, handheld night shot and HDR mode (which I think I'd use a lot), similar burst rate (5fps vs 5.3). You also get the new Digic5 processor.
jump 10 is when u use the click wheel to go through your images, you can jump by 10 images at a time or other increments. its a quick way to get through your photos, then u can use the arrows to get through those specific photos. you can also set it to jump 1, which is the same function as the arrows.
I am not sure if anyone has answered this yet. The "Image jump" is used for scrolling through pictures. You can pic the sets and when reviewing your images with the play button, you can chose a fast scroll, such as the 10 jump or singular scroll with the 1 jump. It is just useful if you are trying to get to a particular image, and you have 1000's on your camera, but I haven't used it much...
Really good video. Thanks so much. I got it set up. I had questions, but you actually answered all of them. Is there a huge difference with the 5ti? I hope not, cause I finally was just able to purchase this new camera. Really love it. Can't wait to make some videos.
Thanks a lot for your videos, as a beginner it helps me a lot ! Just a quick question, I didn't saw any video talking about "Format card". Why should we format the card 3 times? I'm going to do it because you advise us to do it, but I'm just curious to know the reason why is it better to do it. Thanks again !
I am very happy to have discovered this video. I've just started the first lessons for photographers. Have a Canon EOS 650 D purchased. This video is for me a great help. Thousand thanks! Marian
Cool Video man.. I had this camera for almost two months now..And i havnt seen all the options yet... Thanks for the video..So howz your overall rating for 650d..
it depends what is the purpose of the camera. I for a fact needed it for videos and canon 650d beats nikon head on in the price range but when it comes to pictures its always the nikon without any doubt for any price. nikon is also very user friendly
... Talking about the weight, the 650D feels very balanced with my Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 HSM OS lens, which is about half a kg in weight. It might not feel the same with heavier lenses, but since this Sigma is my everyday lens, I'm happy with the weight. I'm not a pro photographer, but it feels right to me.
Hey really love your videos and they have been a huge help. I have a question you might be able to answer. I just got my t4i and started following along with your video as I played with it. When you hit menu 11 icons show at the top, however mine only has 5. Is there something I need to do to update the software to show all the options? I have the camera with 1 dot but not the other 3 camera icons. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for posting your tutorials!
Thanks for this. Definitely a video I will watch a few times as sometimes you do speak quickly. However, all your videos are very informative and have book marked many already. regards J
Hello, firstly, thanks for this great video and secondly, I would like to know a bit more about flash cz I am planning to buy a camera but its hard for me to make my choice. We what would you suggest me ? ( taking in consideration the fact that I am a new in this field nd only have the basic knowledge about )
Put it onto video mode and you above the screen the button with the camera which the blacked out screen? With the red dot above it? That button is used to record during video mode :)
crap i just watched 15mins of stuff i already knew to get to metering timer only to find out you dont know either...but still a helpful video for people who dont know. so good job
Metering timer: this sets how long your metering information (in your view finder) remains illuminated after you first depress the shutter button. 1 min. works for me as I tend to fiddle with my settings.
should I keep my T4i (650D) or take it back and get the Nikon D5100. take into account I don't care for video just stills, and I want something good in low light. Is the Nikon D5100 just the same as the T4i as in picture quality if the both cameras was on the 18-55mm or is the T4i better?
hey i thought of the samething. im moving from a nikon. 60D or 650D i was thinking of 60D because of better built. whats you opinion y the 60d? how about image quality what do you think is better since the 650d has the new digi 5 processor and also ISO performance.

Just wondering. For my 650D whenever i'm on video mode. the lens keep moving by itself and the sound gets captured into my videos. any idea on how to remove it?
Hi. I have a 700D, and sometimes when i point at a wall f.ex, the camera will not beep (for focus) and take the picture. Is that normal, or is my camera broken? The lense is set to AF. Also, when its in AF, isnt the length of the lens supposed to extract and detract when its in AF? I can roll it manually though.
... One could compromise on all the features, pay the £30 extra and get the 60D. Apart from the slightly heavier/robust build and the smirk on your face owning a slightly premium camera, I dont think one gains much. In fact the movie mode on dial will be a pain (not to mention the lock button on dial). 60D is a better camera when compared to 600D. I almost got the 60D, until I discovered that 650D is released and started comparing. No points for guessing which one I finally ended up getting :)

Very useful information. I am intending to move up from my well used Canon 350D and the 650 is probably the way I will go.

Great Clip-Deciding between this one and a 3100/5100, I'll wait for the in-depth review to decide! (The better night shots on Nikons is tempting!)

do you have any recommendation from the RAW software? thank you and you videos are the best! i learn soo much thank you
I literally studied this video. Thank you bruh!
Thanks for the Tip! The 3100 I'm watching already comes with a 55-200mm lens, so it should work pretty well!
Hello, firstly, thanks for this great video and secondly, I would like to know a bit more about flash cz I am planning to buy a camera but its hard for me to make my choice. We
what would you suggest me ? ( taking in consideration the fact that I am a new in this field nd only have the basic knowledge about )
Very informative and easy to understand. Thank you.
So HELPFUL Thank you!!!
awesome! just subbed! thanks for sharing!
Put it onto video mode and you above the screen the button with the camera which the blacked out screen? With the red dot above it? That button is used to record during video mode :)
All you have to do is have the switch mode to video, make sure screen is open, and push the camera button located to the right of the view finder.
Are you able to look at the picture as you change all these settings, as apposed to guessing? Metering timing could be a time lapse option?
Im gonna Take mine t4i soon. Resolution is awesome, almost professional
crap i just watched 15mins of stuff i already knew to get to metering timer only to find out you dont know either...but still a helpful video for people who dont know. so good job
Thank you so much for your videos, there are awesome, straight to the point!
3:50 is your forefinger crooked? or do i see wrong? but great thanks for your video for your effort for beginners
Thank You Thank You. So helpfull. Me regalaron esta cámara y no sabía que hacer con ella. I Diceded to learn
Are you able to look at the picture as you change all these settings, as apposed to guessing?
Nice video ! is it worth it to Upgrade my T3i for the T4i ? Thank you !
Man you are awsome, thank. to you i know everything about my camera.
Metering timer: this sets how long your metering information (in your view finder) remains illuminated after you first depress the shutter button. 1 min. works for me as I tend to fiddle with my settings.
Great tutorial!!! I have learned a lot from it. Thanks so much.
Finally I see the light ,thank you!!!>>>>>>>>>
Great video ! Helped me a lot ! thanks
could you please do a tutorial on macro lens and shooting? i want to do food photography and i want to learn more! thanks!
should I keep my T4i (650D) or take it back and get the Nikon D5100. take into account I don't care for video just stills, and I want something good in low light. Is the Nikon D5100 just the same as the T4i as in picture quality if the both cameras was on the 18-55mm or is the T4i better?

Thanks for explaining the stuff on the screen.
I'm just a beginner, have been playing around with this T4i camera (with 18-55 kit lens) for few months now. Can someone suggest a better lens for this camera?
metering mode is how long you want the shutter to stay open. as in astrial photography or long exposures.
Just wondering. For my 650D whenever i'm on video mode. the lens keep moving by itself and the sound gets captured into my videos. any idea on how to remove it?
what camera are you using to video this? p.s thanks for the help
Thank you for this great video brother, this is really useful.
