Do you actually mean "Dying for the right cause is the most human thing we can do"? If so, yes, you are so right - but only if someone KNOWS that you did it. Otherwise, is it wasted, pointless? No, but it has great worth of a more deep kind. Like Blade Runner, the more times you watch it, the more the meanings change. Really supreme works of Humane Storytelling on an immense scale. (The "e" on humane is intended.). Philip K Dick would, I think be SO proud of this retelling of his story. Humans have this great gift, the ability to tell wonderful stories that can evolve, as this one has. Awesome.

For a second time a replicant sacrifices themselves and paves a way for Deckard to have a life. Roy could have killed Deckard at any time in that final fight but didn't. He knew he was finished and wanted Deckard to live but needed him to see the walls imprisoning him and crash through him. The Nexus6 knew they wouldn't get what they wanted, more life, but they crashed out anyway trying to find a path to the light. In the end they started a revolution that ended with the Blackout because as humans we create the tools that will inevitably destroy us. Earth is a dying world in the world in Blade Runner and our own, we need to crash out of the walls we've created for ourselves and climb to the light.

Most tragic character in modern cinema, First he thought his whole life he's nothing more than a replicant , he learnt that none of the memories ever belonged to him, His only true reflection - Joi (Virtual gf) was erased with her memories tainted too. In the end he just helps rick unite with his daughter, for that he was a real hero . He didn't find any purpose in his mortal state , dying alone on the staircase with snowfall piercing through his soul , etched with all the real memories he gained.

      heh...
Joe's a lot like the final replicant Decker has to dispatch in the first film - what was his name, Roy?
They both sacrificed themselves (to a certain degree), to demonstrate their humanity.
Joe sacrificed himself to save a father and his daughter - not to save the world through fulfilment of some prophecy, but to reunite a man with his long-lost family. Roy 'sacrificed' himself to show mercy to someone who showed him none - to demonstrate compassion more explicitly than the 'human' Deckard ever could.
Two replicants, ascending beyond the veil of 'utility' to do things only humans could do.
      How romantic!
