I like the similarities of Drive and Blade Runner. Think they went for the same type of character for Joe as the Driver like the loneliness of the characters, the driving alone etc. Even the ending is the same, both lying there injured when you're unsure if they're dead or not.
I also like how the roles are mirrored, where The Driver is an outwardly emotionless man, who tries to become the steely eyed hero, K is a supposedly emotionless robot, who wants to be a son to have that emotional connection between himself and a parent.
Most tragic character in modern cinema, First he thought his whole life he's nothing more than a replicant , he learnt that none of the memories ever belonged to him, His only true reflection - Joi (Virtual gf) was erased with her memories tainted too. He didn't find any purpose in his mortal state , dying alone on the staircase with snowfall piercing through his soul , etched with all the real memories he gained.

A lot of people don't realize this but this is maybe not even what's going on but I believe the movie was meticulously crafted so when you see Kay reach to touch his stomach. Most people assume he is grabbing his gunshot wound but in fact he's reaching for joi Because that is where she is normally located. I mean who wouldn't want to reach for their QTGF in a moment like this?

heh... Joe's a lot like the final replicant Decker has to dispatch in the first film - what was his name, Roy? They both sacrificed themselves (to a certain degree), to demonstrate their humanity. Joe sacrificed himself to save a father and his daughter - not to save the world through fulfilment of some prophecy, but to reunite a man with his long-lost family. Roy 'sacrificed' himself to show mercy to someone who showed him none - to demonstrate compassion more explicitly than the 'human' Deckard ever could. Two replicants, ascending beyond the veil of 'utility' to do things only humans could do. How romantic!
