CRASHING MY CF MOTO 450MT/IBEX450

- I crashed my 2 month old CF Moto 450MT while riding off road with some work mates. We were at a small country town called Milbrodale which is on Putty Road near Singleton NSW Australia. I'm new to off road riding and have ridden some gravel roads but nothing like this track. I found that while gong up hill and standing on the bike leaning forward I was quite cramped with the handle bars. This restricted my use of the handle bars and me steering the bike. As I came up over an erosion mound I saw a rock step on my side of the track and thought the best action was to ride over it When my back tyre hit the rock step it jolted my right foot off the peg and was dragging behind while holding the handle bars in a superman fashion. Unable to regain control I veered to the right and laid the bike down. When the bike landed it landed on my right foot. I think the pillion foot peg/mount landed on the heal and dragged/bounced across ankle. My work mates stood the bike up and turned it round for me so I could ride it back down the trail and home. Once home I went to hospital for x-rays and was lucky nothing was broken.
I almost always ride my motorcycles and side-by-side by myself. Not always the smartest choice, but I can ride at the pace I am comfortable with (i.e., slow & leisurely). I just find most groups always want to ride faster than me, which can push a person into riding faster than their skill level may accommodate, plus not allow one to "smell the roses". Glad to hear you escaped that git-off with only a good story to tell!
@@Terry-bw7qk thanks mate. I possibly was riding to fast. It was my first time offroad on such a track. I had ridden on dirt and gravel roads but nothing like this.
@@FlatBrokeAdventures Yes, that was a bit technical to rush into with so many friends and trying to keep up..glad to see nothing broken..lessons learned. The temptation right after a dirt nap is to jump up and try to lift the bike. You did the right thing in remaining down until taking stock of your condition!
Glad you’re OK mate.I got an MT as well and put some dirt tires on it which made a huge difference.
It’s an awesome bike..👍
@@emlsolutions thanks mate. Yes I'm mending. The bikes are great I love mine. Dirt tyres are still to come.
A little banged up but glad to see you’re okay
Thank you. My ankle is still extremely sore still and it's been over 3 weeks since the accident. Injuries now take time when you get older
@@FlatBrokeAdventures I hear ya, I’m nursing a fractured hip from a mountain biking accident I had the honour of receiving end of august. Hang tight, you’ll get through it.
A-sure-task
Man, I feel your pain.
yes short legs new bike
Looks like a solid track to go up, I think I know where that is. That's a HUGE off too! Glad you're ok mate and the bar work did a bloody good job!
Heal up and get back into it soon!
Yes the bar work did a great job. Track was heaps of fun, although it was my 1st time on this type of track and I was outside my comfort zone. Road bikes don't slide like this does over loose rocks and gravel.
@@FlatBrokeAdventures My biggest piece of advice, just ride at your own pace within your comfort zone.
Through that I've slowly increased my confidence and skill level and still have no issues in saying "no" to something that seems too challenging for me.
@@ADVBrett I was having great time. I saw the rock steps and thought I'm not going to be able to steer around it so I'll just go over it. Which I did but my right foot came off the peg and I couldn't recover. Just lucky I went right not left. Would have been a very different story
@@FlatBrokeAdventures So true mate, that left looked steep and long!!
@@ADVBrett yes it's very long. The trail is called Old Bulga Rd it's a Milbrodale.
I think you would have been ok as looked like the bike sorted itself out - but I know what it’s like, your body reacts after the fact and the bike ends up on the floor.
Going to get on of these next year, they look fantastic!
Yes they are a great bike and I love it. I hit a rock sticking out of the ground. My right foot came off the peg and I was unable to regain control. The bike landed on my foot. I think it was the pillion peg mount or luggage rack which landed of my heel and slid across my ankle
Well that ride looked really fun right up until it wasn't... hope you heal fast... :)
Hi John. Yes you're right mate it was a lot of fun until it wasn't. It was a fantastic workout too.
Mi like desde España 🇪🇦, cuanto kms tiene ya la mt, yo con un piñón de 15 y esperando la reprogramación
The bike has 1600km on it now. We can get the ECU reprogrammed here in Australia.
good that you are ok. What boots did you wear?
Cheap boots I got from Aldi when I started riding 7 years ago
@@FlatBrokeAdventures Hey mate, I had an accident very close to that area (Howes Trail), I broke my fibula almost 10 weeks ago. I am walking now most of the time without crutches but I (the foot) get tired. Anyway, my recommendation based on my experience now, is to get the best boot that you can afford, I was wearing Alpinestars Tech5 but now I will get the Tech10, definitely $600-800 it is way cheaper than 12+ weeks off and all the pain and all the stuff that came with the accident. Hope you get well and back on the bike soon. Cheers
@@mikerodriguez4887 thanks Mike. Yes I just went and bought some boots yesterday. I was wearing my old road bike boot that I got from Aldi. I've bought some Fly FR5 boots. They were $400 and have a lot of features from boots costing around $550 - $600. They should be in in a week or so. Seeing I'm not riding yet the wait doesn't matter. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Jim
Great ride up until you binned it well and truly - unfortunately the warning signs were there on your first minor off. What I noticed was the light and shadow wasn’t helping any of you guys - your eyes can’t adjust quick enough to what’s hidden in the shadows. Shame as if the light was more favourable it might’ve been a bit less dodgy. At least you and the bike are relatively ok, though that heal looked very sore. What boots were you wearing out of interest? GWS.👍
I was wearing my 7 year old budget road boots. I'm now going to get a decent set of adventure/motocross boots before I head back out.
@@FlatBrokeAdventures Go with full MX boots Flat Broke ! I see that advice all the time from experienced riders...They all say it is the best insurance of not breaking your leg or ankle out in nowhere...with the inevitable dirt naps.
@@normananderson2583 I have found a pair of boots that I like I just need to go try them on to see how they feel. The shop is about 90 mins drive for me. My foot is still to sore to go trying boots on atm.
@@FlatBrokeAdventures Find some good ones that ideally have a hinge so you can walk with them a bit. But you want a pair that are very rigid when it comes to side impact. Alpinestars Tech 7 or similar. If you have a wide foot you might find the Leatt 4.5's more comfortable...Let us know what you decide on!
where did you get those crashbars? can you share the brand? thanks
They're the factory CF Moto crash bars. I got them from the CF Moto Australia web site
Just wondering about that camera on the front of your bike . Is it a drome or something else . Hope your leg is getting better .
Its a GoPro Max 360
Get some BarkBusters those plastic guards will break.
And then snap your levers.....
Yes thats the plan. I still have a couple of mode I want to do. High front guard and heated grips are 2 of them.
I shouldn't do that with Bark Busters
That looked like a nice big hill. Did the bike land on your foot.
Yes it is a nice big hill and I didn't make it all the way. And yes the bike did land on my foot. I think the pillion peg/mount landed on my heel. It's been 11 days today and I still can't walk properly and I've had to take a week off work.
@@FlatBrokeAdventureslucky. My bike landed on me in the bush 5 weeks ago. Nursing a smashed leg with newly installed plates and pins. Hope you heal soon.
@@jdabel1 thank you and I hope you heal real soon too. That is what I was worried about at the time it happened.
didn’t seem that bad, would even wonder whether to call if a drop rather than a crash… if you’re going off-road you have to be prepared to accept drops like this, it’ll happen again and again, until it won’t happen anymore… (truth is that at any moment offroad you can to hit the odd obstacle you didn’t see or misjudged and go down)
It wouldn't have been bad at all had the bike not landed on my foot and give me bad sprain and bruising. It was 2 weeks ago today and I'm still having trouble walking and yesterday was my 1st day back at work since it happened. I'm not complaining mate. If it bothered me that much or I was scared of getting hurt I wouldn't have 2 motor bikes. Yes it's a learning experience and there are a couple of factors at least. Lack of skill, bad technique being 2.
Flat broke & broken 😭 Hope you're ok?
Did you have it TC/ABS off?
I couldn't tell.
Yes I did until I couldn't reach the ground and dropped the bike. I stopped for a rest and drink then and forgot to switch it back off again. So when I crashed no TC and rear ABS were turned on.. I'll have to remember that when I turn the bike off and restart it the ABS and TC are on. Thanks for watching and commenting mate.
@@FlatBrokeAdventures you are learning as are many. It's a shame it doesn't stay off on restart. But, it's only AUD$9500
@@stevesanelli90 many bike more expensive have the same problem. It's probably a safety feature for on road riding. At least I can change it on the run. Many bikes 3 times the price (Triumph Tiger) have to stop the bike to turn off ABS and TC. I can do this on the run with the press of 1 button. I'm going to get better boots and do a course for riding these things off road. I assume it was my body position which was wrong and cause this to happen.
@@FlatBrokeAdventures I still hate sand to this day. You'll work it out in
no time because of your commitment 💪💪
@@stevesanelli90 I'm told these tyres are terrible in soft sand.
Fortunally you did'nt have fallen down the hill
Yes that's very lucky. I would have been hurt badly
Dude edit your video it is unwatchable
Would you like to elaborate with something more descriptive and helpful?
Unfortunately riding off road without MX style boots is just rolling the dice...
Especially if you don't have any off road experience
yes thats true. I'm going to look at some on Monday
