2 bits of information for those who are curious: IRL the crew will tell you what controls you have to test and it also includes flaps, stabs, control directions, weapons, countermeasures and a few other bits and pieces. The second is that this simulation lacks a critical part of the takeoff. Before launch, they will put tension on the shuttle and you have to brake with all your might. It is actually a bit of an unnerving moment every time. Then you pull full throttle, THEN salute if you are ready for takeoff. And as a bonus: you don't HAVE to release the stick and throttle, but it is advised. Two reasons: the sudden acceleration can induce a slight movement in your hands, which is not fortunate, but a seasoned pilot can control it. Also, if you grab the two railings on the canopy, grab them well, because the first few time, there is a slight chance and danger of jet-induced-facepalming yourself. And it is not nice.
Hey Cap just a heads up: the weight shown on the checklist page is bugged and incorrect, especially while carrying AMRAAMs. To get the true weight, pull up the rearm menu. The true weight will be shown there.
Hey Cap....after hooking up to the 'shuttle' do you need to also click Launch Bar - RETRACT, or is this automatically done after completion of the catapult stroke. I'm finding the red L BAR warning light comes on after launching if I don't flip this switch manually. Thanks again for these updated brief videos....good stuff!
Hello. Can you please test if an F-14 can land with a single engine using ACLS? Autopilot might be better at handling weird flight characteristicks compared to a human pilot.
would you guys do a top gun 2 trailer parody? where the close up shots of people manipulating the controls and throttle is just people messing with their controllers or keyboards?
Know it's very late, but many ppl think this. As an F-18 technician veteran, all 3 DDI's are mostly the same and provide pilots the flexibility of moving screens to any of them. Only major difference is the lower having terribly colored HSI... and yes, even in real life it looks like crap.
Okay.. I couldn't get it to go after launch... found out that I was grossly overweight...lol tried again and did it will no weps, just one fuel tank and it was easier.. even landed after second attempt.. thanks cap
i want to get into DCS and go the F18. So far so good, my biggest problem is that when ever i finished the start i cant turn as sharp as you do, its so much "softer" so i cant get to the catapult any ideas what to do?
I used to have no problems with launching off the carrier. Idk what changed but now I always keep falling off and without a load I barely manage to not hit the water by pulling hard on the stick
Anyone having issues taking off in the f18 at the moment? I’ve used the aircraft before with no issues in 2021, however now I can’t even take off! Is there a bug. FYI this is in multiplayer I’m finding this.
So a total noob question! I've been playing the tutorials and doing quite well so I thought I'd take a shot at a single mission. Started out easy, carrier start and take off. I did everything (so I think I did) I'm supposed to, I launch off the cat, and even while at full afterburner after I raise my gear and flaps...I barely stay aloft. I'll have AB going for 2 mins and I'm lucky if I'm doing 200 kts lol. What's wrong? Any ideas?

Hey gang, going to ask here because the internet is full of, 'there is no reverse' in the F-18. But after auto start up procedure on a carrier in a training mission on Marianas...applying thrust starts me to taxi in reverse! Is it a bug with Marianas, is there a control I need to get forward taxi? Hahaha...many thanks in advance and these tutorials are awesome, airbourne in F3 and A-10's now so very confused by this reverse issue!
How do you get your pilot to actually salute and brace himself on launch? I see when the AI does it its automatically done but when I salute nothing happens.

You actually show what the the controls are in the key bindings list. You just earned yourself a sub!
Welcome Sir
whats the key you press to hook up?
Amazing tutorial keep up the great work
What is the uniform key to hook to catapult? You only said press the uniform key but i have no idea what that is and google didnt know either
"Uniform" is NATO phonetic for "U".

auto retracts, or at least it should do.

Thanks Cap
What does it mean "press the uniform key"? Where is this key ? Can you explain more please?
Yeah i googled that because I never heard of it and found nothing
"Uniform" is NATO phonetic for "U".
It was sarcasm. You guys are taking this "game" where even flaps still don't work as they should, too seriously.
Where's the uniform key?

Grim Reapers thanks uncle grim! 😁
I need to learn Fox 2 tactics. For using on just dogfight server.....

How do you know when you're 7nm from the carrier ? Are you using Tacan or just the HSI?
You need to set the carrier TACAN.
is there a launch key you have to hit when using the catapult like the f-14 has or is it automatic when you hit mil power with the f-18?
auto

Omg I downloaded dcs and wow so much to learn before u can enjoy these gems 😭😭😭 I’m struggling
How did you make it so that you can see the pilots arms in the cockpit?
think its RCtrl+V or Rctrl+P?
Hey Cap. Have you heard if the process will change when Super Carrier mod is released? Thanks
I suspect it will.

press "S" it will unblock carrier taximode

what stab trim do i set if it is 37498
Rudder trim on left console for cat launches
I definitely didn’t just line up and then throttle up and hit the water bc I didn’t have enough speed
Everytime I try to take off I just fall into the ocean no matter how hard I pull up

Hi guys how do you set up a cold start in the ME for a carrier take off from the ramp?
What’s uniform button 😅
I want to see 2x p51 vs a10 in a turn dog fight!!
Super Thanks
I can't hook it up to the cat no matter what I do, been trying for 2 hours. help please!
Normal carrier or supercarrier? This will not work with Supercarrier?

There IS no reverse IRL on the F18. But it has a very tight turn radius (there is a specific setting for the front gear to accomodate for this).
IIRC, the ground isn't flat in that map. Is it possible you're rolling downhill?
what is thr "uniform key"???
"Uniform" is NATO phonetic for "U".
this is surprisingly easy....i managed to take off, come back around and land on the carrier with my gamepad. and im an absolute noob at this game
Flaps should be set to full, not half. I was a plane captain in the navy.

F10 Menu, go to Ground Grew F8 and then hit Salute F6
Didn’t work for me
I think there have been changes to the F-18 since this was made. Maybe try a more recent video?
