2:34 - NEW update for everyone (March 2024) F10 map... LAlt + LMB brings up co-ordinates for that exact location that STAYS on the screen when you go back into the Cockpit view... Now no need to pen + paper and write everything down. THANKS CAP!
A10 pilots on mp servers now on suicide watch. F18's can now take off and spiral climb over the airfield, launch 4 slammers in Preplanned mode, and then land while the A10 drags ass all the way there just to find everything blown up an hour ago
Maybe you should play it? They even have free trials for modules. I can't get enough of my hornet. Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make history. Hornet pilots do both and 'date' the prom queen.
FYI, I did some playing with these the day they came out. The flight altitude seems to be measured above ground level, not above sea level. Which implies that the missile has some ground avoidance. Just what I found the first day.
So it even has its own radar (altitude measurement) because it automatically climbs over (= evades) the mountains? Or does it know the terrains altitude because of its GPS/terrain memory? Insane weapon.
I don’t know if you can do this in game, but irl one aircraft can drop the missile while another aircraft can carry the pod and control it. I worked on this pod while in a S-3B squadron and in the Persian gulf a hornet dropped one of these and our aircraft steered it into a target. Also we had a joystick in our aircraft that you could use to steer it.
Very nice demonstration, thanks for that! Is it possible for one plane to launch the missiles and another do the terminal guidance with the DL-pod provided the channel numbers are set correctly?
uhm so im trying to launch this missile, ive got everything setup but the missile is never ready. it doesnt show ready, for some reason even though ive put in a waypoint as the target, set everything up. im so confused.
I keep doing PP target mode and my gps coords must be wrong because my missiles never go to target they always way over shoot and never go right way or get intercepted by SA-8 that it claims it flies past in training. SMH. Plz help.
Hey I noticed that a lot of the time when I use the pre-planned mode, often the missle will straight up lose its mind and just starts doing circles and not going towards the target, steer point, or designated flight altitude. I am not sure what is causing this but when I launch 4 of them its common one or two of them get 'lost' and just start doing circles and all that weird stuff. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? or might this be a bug?
Great vid Cap! Only noticed that with your 1st shot (pre-planned) you selected it to fly at high alt, but it went low instead. Did you accidently select 'low', which wasn't recorded perhaps, or do you think it's a bug? Cheers!
Is all this weapon programming done in flight? Or before start? Does the pilot do that or is there a ground crew member with a Laptop and data connection to the avionics? I can't imagine this can be done properly under battle conditions in flight.
Talk about a stand-off weapon! Are there any missions or campaigns available where you get to use these missiles? If there are not any, there should be! Thanks for the tutorial, Grim! I am still learning DCS, and your videos help a lot!
Hi. I am using the Data Link on a mission with the harpoon 84E Missiles in the F-18. I am able link the missile to the Data Link everything seems to be fine except I do not get the black hot white hot option on my screen. As a result it is very difficult to see the cross hairs. I am using 2.7 reg. version not beta.
in map view, with your target selected, hold left alt, hit Y I believe 3 times until the coordinates appear as 4 groups of two numbers. You enter in the first 6 numbers, hit enter, then enter the last two as seconds.
hmm, if the missile is controlled via Datalink, is it possible to share the work between multiple planes? let's say you have a stealth fighter (e.g. Raptor) penetrating the enemy air defense and a couple Hornets outside the enemies effective range Could the Hornet launch their SLAM -ER and have the Raptor guide them to their target?
Not in DCS at least. The data link channel is just the station number and is preset. E.g. Ch 008 is for the missile from station 8. I'm sure that what/who/how a SLAM ER can be controlled IRL would be rather highly classified.
Whats the Slam-er minimum turn radius? Cause i can think of a challenge for you. But if the SLAM-ER needs line of site im not sure if it would be possible to fire from one valley and curving the slam-er to destroy a target in another valley.
Making missiles attack from 4 different sides simultaneusly will make it be able to kill s300 and the accuracy on gps is so good you can ignore datalink Tried it Thoough tors are problem but if you have carrier nearby maybe u can rearm harms aswell while slow slams are flying there :)
didn't try 4 directions yet tried just 2, but s300 shot down every missile(4 launched at total in different altitude mods). It was on high skill lvl I thing, will try 4 directions tomorrow :c
@@TheMrKotmanul go low altitude, and 4 directions Set waypoints already in the mission editor to save time Why low altitude? So the s300 has less time to shoot at them since the missiles will be closer when s300 can see them. 4 directions because s300 can engage atleast 2 missiles in same direction simultaenously also way better like that.
The format of the GPS coordinates no longer looks like yours. There are 5 options now but none have dashes like you show in the map view using alt-y. I think this is why I cant hit anything in PP mode.
To work out the range of VHF…. Distance (Miles) = 1.23 x (√ aircraft height in feet + √lowest point of Missile in feet (or antenna)) Distance = 1.23 x ( √30000 + √0 ) 173 miles 🤓
Yep. I tested. Lone sa-10 died, i made 4 missiles each attack from different directions He would probably had shot down 2 or 3 but even 1 is enough For me, the missile had accidental epic timing, where it dove down to low alt, and at last time "dodged" the sa-10's missiles. And only died later.
Size matters... @ approx 330,000,000 Americans, it's just under 1 cent per civilian to fire that missile... It's difficult for other countries to wrap their heads around, and it's what allows them to do what others can only dream, thanks to sheer volume. Edit: The fact you can toss/lob a JDAM from ridiculously far out does make one wonder where or why they would use a SLAM-ER missile in today's battlefield though.

Awesome, reminds me of the Gulf footage of the missile flying in through the window or door past a Iraqi having a smoke. Boooooom
Thanks Super Cap, this is an excellent addition to the FA-18's payload options.
the most badass name for a missile ever
How to learn DCS: read manual about the weapon to get a general idea. Then watch GR tutorial. Then practice. Man your videos are so great.

This range is sick. It even climbs again at the end. :D
a really love your videos! :) they are really informative and your voice is so relaxing :) keep it up :)

I just love learning something new to me. Thank you sir!
Looking forward to seeing how this works on a mission with an active enemy prosecuting. Thanks, Cap.

Feels like bug but haven't investigated properly yet.
Looks like it went started high then went low and then went high again on terminal.
I noticed it too. My missiles fly 150ft in low and 5000ft in high. Not yet tested medium.
In case of low cruising, the missile pops up at terminal.

It's not done "under battle conditions" though. They don't input data for it with one hand while using the other to dogfight 7 Migs and 3 Phantoms
