- I made a puzzle platformer where you can switch between 3 dimensions. Each dimension changes your movement, enemy behavior, and even how the environment works!

“It’s a puzzle game and a platformer mashed into one”
A puzzle platformer?! Truly revolutionary!
Eh-hem, Aperture Science...
@@endadude7780 joke?
And Braid before that, but I think the intro was more for dramatic effect.
technically this video title would work for making minecraft
three dimensions in two ways, in one game
Yes
@@eqtuise and 0 life
I thought he would make a game with that dimension changing / way to enter other dimensions from Minecraft
No it wouldn't. He didn't make Minecraft lol
“First dimension. X.”
“Second dimension. Y.”
“Third dimension. Z.”
fourth dimension. w."
@@hardiefx7933of course fourth dimension is W
W for Winner
@@hardiefx7933 Wouldn't that be dimension zero?
@@dumdum3162 W is conventionally used to describe a fourth dimension (T is also used, although T is usually used for time, but it can also be used to just describe any fourth dimension, but when there are four spatial dimension usually W is used)
This is just toodee and topdee
Really satisfying gameplay, driven by a unique mechanic. This was a lot of fun to play. One recommendation id make is that the switching used three keys, one for each dimension. That way the player can "learn" that left is fast guy, down is skull and right is brain. Takes away the extra mental load of "which dimension will pressing left give me?"
OH MY GOSH IT'S THE PHYSICAL RELM, COGNITIVE RELM, AND SPIRITUAL RELM!! COSMERE REFERENCE!
I will be honest I have no idea what cosmere is
@@Gambit-YT a book universe (mainly Stormlight Archive and Mistborn) written by Brandon Sanderson
Pretty much, prompted me to think of it.
That initial game idea with the changing color palettes is pretty fire! The new idea is fire too tho
You could create a "PlayerMovementResource" instead of the dictionary, that stores all you'll need in a "class savable" file that you edit from the Godot's inspector
custom resources are super useful, they always save me
I almost did that but I knew I only needed 3 so it wasn’t that big of a deal to me
@@Gambit-YT got it, the game is very good. Good job!
I really like the system behind the keys. A lot of devs would make a key ammount var for how many keys you have and then have to put the door to be locked if you have under a certain # of keys but your solution is way more efficient
A cool touch could be having different pathways that are only accessible on a per-dimension basis. So like, there's a random floating item or inaccessible room, but if you switch dimensions, suddenly ut's accessible. Then you just switch back to the previous dimension once you're there.
Fantastic videos as always gambit!
Oh dam thsts a really interesting concept. One questjon if you dont mind me asking. What font are you using for your videos it looks really nice.
Thank you! The font in the video is called “outfit”. The font in the thumbnail is “catcut”
Both are free for commercial use
the sprites look like human's soul, brain and skull
(edit) 5:33 AYO IS THAT STRAIGHT FLY FROM GEOMETRY DASH
Mind, body, and spirit. Trio as old as time. If you disagree, you are wrong.
this is a great idea and a very fun looking game. but i wanted to actually thank you for your succinct but very informative description of tile maps/tile sets. ive tried to watch video or two about how they work and when they should be used, but i found them to be a little too cluttered to feel like they were ever worth using. but you saying "you can even include whole scenes" suddenly make it click for me, so thank you very much
It would be really nice if the player is standing in the title screen and when you change the deminsion he falls through the block he is standing on and instead of the start screen there are now in a dimension to see the settings.
1:55 idk what movie you're cooking in the background with an intro like that but holy smokes I would love to see it
ohh this reminds me of a really old indie game called Eversion, with a similar dimension concept (iirc the prompt was an hp lovecraft quote about hearing otherworldly music), but with an at-will shift rather than static shift spots. i really like the idea of the semi permeable blocks, too. i think the sprites giving an easy, distinct, and instant indicator of dimension is great too, and i think could work for a story really well
2:45 this is what people should do. Good job.
How do you only have 7k subscribers?
Everything in your videos is perfect, the editing and everything.
you are in the right track my friend , keep it up!
Nice devlog :)
Keep up the good work; I really enjoy videos like this as an indie dev myself.
Cool video/game! If you want to could you consider maybe a level editor?
new sub
so cool! This idea of different perspective of a same scene is amazing!
The movement of the third dimension gave me a awesome idea for a rouge-like but I do not know how to code
Also I’m subscribing because of this vid
Don’t worry, everyone starts somewhere. Good luck on your rogue-like! Thanks for subscribing!
ok thanks
@@Gambit-YT also what engine should I use
@@barrettplays3953 I’ve only used Godot, and that’s what I’d recommend. It seems to be one of the easier ones to learn. Unity would also be good since it’s by far the most popular and it’ll be easiest to find tutorials
did anyone else think he meant a 3D game lol
Yeah I thought he meant 1D, 2D, 3D
No
@@josephtyrrell6813same
@@XDhappy972 ok
Honestly yeah
nice editing
This is really cool I’m excited to see what else it becomes
perhaps the game could be called something along the lines of "Mind, Body, Soul"
I tried to complete the game, but after being stuck on the really hard spike switching platform level I gave up. I'm bad a platformers but enjoyed it nonetheless. Good job.
This remidns me of an old Minecraft map called "Dimension Jumper 2"...
Maybe it would be good to give a little logic to how the dimensions work. What's the point of having all that paraphernalia if I can't even know what the point of changing dimensions is. It's like "hey, this block is transferable on the second dimension and you had no way of knowing it. And if you don't like it, then screw you."
So basically he starts off in his standard flesh dimension, and he can transition into his bone dimension and mind dimensions
when I clicked on this video I was expecting it to be a game that's both 2d, 3d, and 1d/4d lmao
Speaking of Dimensions, can I name it like Dimension Brain, Dimension Soul, and Dimension Skull
Wow very cool and inspiring devlog
alienstrock is approaching fast
Underrated channel and video
Great job! I wish I were as good as you.
oh look it's that guy, congrats on the subs dude!
There's a game called quantum conundrum that has a similar premise but in 3d
I’ll check it out!

Too dee, top dee, meet tree dee!
6:18 I was wondering why it was (0,0) not (0,0,0) but then I remebred its a 2D not a 3D game
Nice video! What is the program you use for pixel art?
It bothers me so much that the last teeth pixel for the skull isnt aligned properly
Man I love godot
This game reminded me of a game called "vision" by proxy
It reminds me of "Eversion"
the backgrounds are so noisy, I find them disorienting. But its a really cool idea what you have going on here
Would be funny if you could switch from 2d dimension to 3d dimension or even THE 4th DIMENSIO,jk that is a pretty hard goal because I’m pretty sure Godot cannot do 3d and don’t even talk about 4d
Make a 4th dimension where a snowball that has a gun
This game concept looks really cool but the title makes it sound like you just made a 3D game. Like, wow this game has 3 whole dimensions.
I’m really sorry! I couldn’t think of a better word instead of “dimension” and I wasn’t trying to be misleading. I changed the title, hopefully calling them “alternate dimensions” is more accurate. Thanks for the feedback
@@Gambit-YT I don’t think it’s misleading or anything I just think it was a funny thought.
I just realized that this video is CRIMINALLY underrated.
**Look at the likes**
It would be awesome if you can add a level editor
very good video! i loved it!
Soo.. this is technically Minecraft And Geometry Dash mixed together?
We need a update for the game
Pt 2 please
I forgot who this guy is at this point😭
Yo he posted

Still waiting for the Aether portal
How many hour you put the work in this game? I want to know if my game development is too slow (i use unreal engine frfr)
I spent too long on this one. I’d guess at least 50 hrs
What website or app did you use to animate the pixelart sprite
Aseprite
i thought he meant like 1d (how?), 2d and 3d game
In the game there is a Button to click that says "Don't play" I clicked on it and my game crashed 💀
4:31 makes me think:
How its spelled: godot
Seems obvious how its pronounced right?
WRONG!
Its actually pronounced: gudoeh
