I'm numerically dyslexic (Dyscalculia), so I thought having two counting systems would be very difficult. But after spending a lot of time to learn it, I have found Korean numbers are more comfortable to me than English numbers. So now when I am thinking about numbers in some way or another I tend to use Korean. I cannot quite explain why.
I've always been so confused and overwhelmed with when to use Sino vs Native Korean numbers, but this video was SO helpful for me!! It's so straightforward and easy to understand!
Great! Thank you so much. I tend to struggle with numbers in Korean so I'm very grateful for all of this advice. :)
Thank you, I was looking for this exact type of video. ~
This is so helpful!! Thank you so much 💕
This is so helpful. Very organized too. 감사합니다! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much. This is a great reference for a messy subject!
Great explanation, CONGRATS!!!!
This is really useful. Thank you!
So useful, thanks!
Thank you for explaining all of this so concisely, I found it very easy to follow :)
This was so helpful omg TT
Thank you so much for this! This was really helpful for my studying.
Oh ma ghad I'm so glad I found your channel, you're so good at explaining the difference😭💜
The hardest part for me is 만. It's like counting in hexadecimal . I can't do it naturally
I agree it's confusing! A small tip that might help is that I always say to myself '만 equals 4 zeros (0000).' So 사십만 is 40 + 0000 = 400,000. It's particular helpful when talking money 😄
I really like your videos. Totally different than videos available on other channels. I'm happy i found you.
감사합니다 노나.
Thank you so much! this video was so helpful
Yes, her explanation is so clear and useful!!!
샘 정말 고마워요! 이건 좋은 비디오예요 ~ 이런 것 찾고 싶었고 찾아서 행복해요
Thanks so much for the explanations! I been learning sentence structures and vocab from a Korean textbook and didn't even know there were two number systems... 😅 Awesome video

Today I watched Learn Korean with BTS, two episodes about numbers, and I took a lot of notes. I thought I nailed it. Then I watched your video... Now it is actually starting to make sense. Thanks a lot.
Even tho I'm fluent in Korean, I have no idea how I learnt these things lmao but when it comes to teaching, I'm having trouble to remember all these rules. One of my friend asked me to teach her Korean number systems, so I was searching for such video.
I love the way u give examples while u explain. very helpful!
Nice teaching
Probably going to have go revisit this video 20 more times . 근데 비디오를 만들서 감사합니다!
correction ^^ 비디오를 만들어 주셔서 감사합니다. ^^ Enjoy learning Korean!!! ^^

I'd love a math video. It's one of the things I haven't learned yet after 3 years of studying Korean.
@@TimAyro yeah, that would be nice
Thanks! :)
Do you mean like how to say basic calculations and stuff? Addition subtraction etc?
@@YourKoreanSaem that'd be great
okay so a lil background abt me: i'm a native filipino speaker trying to learn korean.
i just realized we use also use 2 number systems in Filipino language!
• Filipino numbers* are used in counting amount of (objects, people, places, ages, money etc.) and also to tell the date & year
• Spanish-derived numbers (with the filipino spelling) are used in telling the time of day. sometimes in counting money and age, too.
i realized this when i thought of using Filipino numbers in telling the time. "a las siyam ng umaga" (9am) sounded SO off. it MUST be "a las NUEBE (nueve) ng umaga"
so yeah, i conclude it's important to learn korean counting systems too!
Thank you for your video, it helps me a lot! You are good at explaining. Have you ever been to korea?
I live in Korea 😂
Thank you so much for explaining everything so thoroughly! I was always confused about these.
Also, when you use sino-korean numbers, you can just replace them with arabic numerals, and with native korean it wouldn't be correct, am I right?
Yes! Sometimes you can write Arabic numerals and read it as native tho. Like 20명 - 스무 명
God, this is freakin’ complicated for just numbers. Why didn’t Sejong King just say, “You must use native system or die”? 😂😂😂
If I want to say first, second, third, fourth…etc day. Which system should I use?
probably sino-korean. as 선생님 explained, it’s used for ordinal numbers aka ordering numbers.
How often/in what situations are day counters like 사흘, 나흘, 닷새, 엿새 used?
They can be used interchangeably with sino-Korean. But the native Korean is more common for 1-4 days. I’d say 하루 이틀 is easier to say than 일일 or 이일(which can just sound like one long 일). And of course, for more formal situations Sino Korean is usually always preferred
I have a question because at 7:01 she says '' 두 번'' but can you also pronounce it as '' 둘 번 ''? I'm a bit confused
Nope. When counting with counters in Korean, the first four native Korean numbers change slightly.
하나 > 한 번
둘 > 두 번
셋 > 세 번
넷 > 네 번
The rest of the numbers from five onward stay the same.
@@zzss0012 thanks now I get it :)
hahaha you are so cute i love u hahah
You said "책 두 권", can i ask what and when to use "권"?
it’s a counter for books :)
@@zzss0012 oh thank u ;;)
I'm bts army.for this reason, i learning it💜💜💜💜
An excellent reason 👍
Can you make a video or reply to this comment. Video of conversation at home. Jebal! I need it
I have a series of this!
I'm gonna have to say, North Koreans have it correct here. That is if what I heard is correct and they use no sino-Korean.
North Koreans do use Sino-Korean numbers for dates and money and stuff ^_^
ruclips.net/video/P04pHRBmaaQ/видео.html You can hear the famous North Korean "pink lady" use sino-korean dates here! She reads the date (2016/1/6) as 이천십륙년 일월 륙일. Note the North Korean 륙 (6) instead of 육 :)
IT IS NO AS SIMPPLE AS SHE SAID ....
THAT EXPLANATION MAKES NO SENSE U LOST ME COMPLETELY!!!!WOW..WOW
