Even if someone hasn't learned linguistics or phonetics, your explanation based on the linguistics must be very helpful to differentiate the English consonants and Korean! All of your consonant comparison videos are so great...!!! 학생들이 항상 어려워하는 자음 발음들 항사 너무 자세하게 잘 설명해 주시는 것 같아요. 언어학적인 내용을 너무 어렵지 않게, 그렇지만 도움 되는 내용들은 포함해서 만드시느라고 고민도 엄청 하시고, 여러 논문 읽으면서 오랫동안 준비하셨을 것 같아요. 오늘도 꼼꼼히 설명해 주시는 모습 잘 보고 많이 배우고 갑니다!!!

Coming from a linguistic background this video was super helpful because understanding where the sound originates and how it’s performed in your mouth makes it easier for me to understand. THANK YOUUU hopefully my Korean teacher will be happy when she next hears me pronounce the affricates hehe

Great video. :) As a Spanish native speaker I'm grateful. Most materials on phonetics about Korean are based in English pronunciation. But you explained something I suspected: these consonants are more similar to the sound of CH in Spanish (no aspiration, voiceless, no protrusion and touching the lower teeth).
Learning from resources intended for English speakers sometimes confuses me more than it should. ;)
Thank you very, very much. :D

Y este es exactamente mi problema!! Aunque siento que alguno de los sonidos puede parecerse a mi pronunciación de la y/ll en sílabas acentuadas o detrás de consonante, que tiendo a aspirarlas un poco. Tengo que seguir intentando, porque después del vídeo y todo, fallé completamente el text.

I just saw another linguist here as I was about to comment on the "We're not linguists here" part. And I agree, I got here with the same purpose - to get that linguistic description right. XD
First of all, thank you for the research and explanation, it will come of great help. Secondly, I think I might have it easier because of my mother language and the dialect that I'm speaking (Croatian), but on the other hand, I honestly cannot get the "right" version of all the palatals even in my mother language (the standardised version). I do not sound that odd that you'd think I'm not native as long as people don't try to purposely guess where I'm from.
And for the end, the comparison you used in the end of the video is so helpful.
    On to the next video!

the pronunciation of ㅈ has been one of my recent aha moments. I've been studying Korean for ages and I knew I was getting something wrong with ㅈ, ㅊ, andㅉ. Recently, I listened to a RUclipsr who was not discussing the particular pronunciation of ㅈ, but for some reason I could hear the difference in her pronunciation that helped me understand how ㅈ is different from J. It seemed to me that her ㅈ was more like making a J sound but with her mouth starting in the position for a ts sound...which is consistent with the position description you gave....more forward in the mouth.

Loved how you explained the different aspects of pronunciation. You are the first person I’ve watched talking about the tongue’s position and it was kind of fascinating as I have found it makes a difference, for example even if we hace the “n” sound similar to “ㄴ” sound it is not exactly the same because the tongue’s position. I usually practice my Korean pronunciation using a dictation app and apparently I just can’t pronounce well ㅂ and ㄴ, and it may be because of the voicing and the aspiration aspects which I understand but apparently can’t reproduce. I even still hear them as “m” and “d” sound. Thank you so much for this excellent and useful video, every aspect was thoroughly and clearly explained. Greetings from Mexico.
