In this tutorial, we'll show you how to use the DCS F-18 ACM modes! This tutorial is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to fly the F-18 in the ACM modes.
DCS F-18 is a great simulation program and this tutorial will teach you all about the DCS F-18 ACM modes. We'll cover everything from how to start the DCS F-18 ACM mode to how to use the various functions of the aircraft. After watching this tutorial, you'll be able to fly the F-18 like a pro!

Hi Wags. Can I ask Why does WACQ take so long to acquire? I understand the volume being large but still should only take ~6 seconds to scan the whole volume. It takes almost 2 complete scans to detect a target 2.8 NM away. Note that the radar already scanned the elevation that the target ends up getting detected at with the target well within the horizontal scan width the first time it sweeps.
Have you released the bump mode? I’ve been hoping that the F18 had something as awesome as shooting off bore AIM120s with the HMD like the F16 Viper! It’s my absolute favorite way to splash Target! I may switch planes to the Hornet now! It can carry more AMRAAMs!
Wait what is the bump option?
If you get confused or not sure what mode you are in start over by going into GUN then select whatever radar mode you want to use ….. GUN to reset when in the heat of battle.

I think wev all been there in a merge....taking a fast snap shot.... thinking ur mad slick getting a dank off bore shot.....only for the dreaded yellow to text and then kicked to spectator to think about what you have done.
I'm a novice to DCS and was focusing on learning the f-18 radar selections and modes. I thought I had to learn how to designate targets with the radar. I realized what I wanted was how to get into air-to- air combat. Until I found your video, I was about to give up. THANK YOU, thank you!! As a retired engineer, I' m taking notes from your video and I think I understand what I need to know. WOW, wonderful explanation!!!

I just want to add that from a default ACM weapon (guns, sidewinders) you do not need to go to boresight first, just select the ACM mode you want. From a 120 you would need SCS forward first to access the other ACM modes.

Great video. I've been a (lurking quietly) fan since your excellent start up videos. Thank you for all your great work. One thing I might've added for completeness, although not directly related to ACM modes, is that the HMD display can be toggled on / off with the HOTAS event/ recce/ mark switch. For those times when it just gets in the way.

This is going to be so helpful! I forgot about ACM modes and I was on a server last night trying to lock up a guy in front of me but I couldn't get a lock on the Radar. ACM would've been so helpful last night! :P

Just what I need
The uplook at 13:57 is what confused me and that's why I'm here. I remember being able to go SCS fwd and immediatelly aft and get to vertical, but not anymore. Was wondering if I was doing something wrong. Good to know you have to go through wide beforehand.

It just depends on the situation honestly, but the one I use the most is vertical scan in BFM
I wonder how Uplook mode would be applicable to DCS. My gaming chair won’t support that many G’s

Actually there is. It's not implimented yet, but you would be able to bug multiple TWS tracks and one trigger press will fire like 4 AMRAAMs.

Fun fact, the ACM acronym originally stood for "Amazing Cock Man". Used mostly in training, pilots would yell ACM over the radio to try and spook the other pilot when in close during a dogfight. The goal was to let the other pilot know they were close enough that they could visually identify the other pilots junk, a rooster call of sorts. Command didn't like the publicity and attention this term got so the mission changed, and the term is now known as "Advanced Combat Maneuvering" because of it.
