7:05 - 7:40 The absolute best advice any Virtual Aviator can possibly get; "Turn around and try again".. When I first started playing DCS I had this problem. I just really wanted to hit the target first time 'round. I was super impatient and was 100% that guy who just wanted to blow things up all the time. I would fly straight at the target trying to get a lock and end up being shot at every time, always downed in the end. Once I pulled my head out of my rear flying the A-10CII in the mission "Sitting Ducks" for the 272nd time I finally started to break off before being shot at and coming back around to try again. I stopped being downed all the time and improved my ripple fire skills immensely. So yeah. The best advice any virtual combat pilot can possibly get is; Pull your top out of your bottom and break off!!!
Good job keeping your knots up! Too many people are sub 250 knots when they're kinetic like this and then have no smack on the jet to evade sam or pop up threat. Keep it up step bro!
I think the thing about the F18 I prefer the most over the F16 is how incredibly streamlined the controls are. Case in point: I haven't flown the plane in more than half a year but after just watching this video, I immediately recalled how to operate the HMCS+TGP+Mavericks. This thing's systems are easier to remember than my actual keybinds lol.
I agree. The F-16 is so foreign to me. I can hop in a Harrier and be up and running no prob. The Viper is like going from English to ancient Sumerian. It’s just so different.
Beautiffull vidéo, thx Tricker ! The more i fly the 18 the more i like it :) I flew the F16 a lot but i tend to prefer the 18 now, thx to features as the HMCS for ground pouding! Greetings from France ^^
Damn Tricker, you're on a roll with some with some great stuff for ground pounders like me. First, the A-10 II w/ Mavs, now the F/A-18...I'm gonna have to order another 10 cases of AGM-65D's for Christmas. Another great video to toss in the library for quick reference...thanks
Thanks Tricker, been learning the F-18 the past few weeks and doing the Persian Lion campaign, so all these tips are super helpful, now just need to sort out VR its a bit of a pain at this stage
FYI you can use the RAID/FLIR FOV select switch to toggle MAVF FOV Another way to do the the dual target attack is with the FLIR offset. Have an AUTO track on the first target, TDC depress to make the offset cursor appear, slew this to the second target. Fire first Mav, SCS to FLIR will make the offset the primary TGT instantly, fire the second Mav. (fun fact: the offset logic is wrong in DCS, it should be the other way around with the offset slewing the FLIR image.) Also, don't make a MK, it's such an unnecessary step. Put a sensor like the FLIR or radar in track so if you hit undesignate, just the designation is removed but the sensor will still be pointed in the right direction. Good video!
@@TrickerDCS Hello. Do you remember if you tried the thing with the FLIR offset? I tried and the mav doesnt want to lock to the WPDSG point but rather to a point that is between that and the offset. I dont know if Im doing it right :/
I really enjoy your videos Tricker. I grabbed your TrackIR profile and noticed that the yaw axis is faster left than it is right. Is there a reason for that? Keep up the good work!
Hey nice vide many thanks! I wonder if it's possible to lock one maverick to one target, then step to another missile and lock it to another target, and finally ripple launch both pursuing different targets each, similar to what you did in the F-16 CAS video.
hey my man great video. FOV on mavericks does not function when used in conjunction with the TGP. The FOV change from HOTAS will only work on the pod, not the seeker head when the SOI is changed. It has to be changed manually from the OSB's. Its always been like that but like you said, not sure if its a realism modeled in or a bug. Cheers!
Ok You presented one type of Maverick. And how about the second , the IR one? How to use these? Im glad you show up in front of us bravo to you but it would be nice to explain how to use each type separately. We are not combat pilots...
@@TrickerDCSThank You! And of course I didnt mean to offend You or something. Youre doing a great job. Im just irritated with a fact that developers of these modules create training missions which are useless. People have to watch youtube tutorials while paying 70 bucks for just a plane...
I've tried this probably 30 times now this is not working. Mavericks will not auto slew or release. I don't know if you are skipping obvious steps or if I just can't follow simple instructions. Seems broken
welp i scrolled though the comments and i see no ones questions are ever answered lol. Guess i will have to try somewhere else. thanks for content though.
ok, I think i found the stuff he was glossing over when he slews over the sa9 he must be pressing the target designate depress button then selecting the mavericks with the sensor switch then he must be pressing the cage uncage button that's the only way i can get the mavs to slew and release. had to watch another video to get that information.

The F-18 needs to be simple enough to be flown by marines.
@@smitty683 Haha. Very true! It also has pouch for crayons to snack on.

Oh my god I thought it was only for VR but everyone can use the HMD, so cool!
Absolutely. You can play DCS with just a mouse and keyboard while still being able to do everything with every aircraft.
solved my problems for exact same reason! thanks for posting
Well done as always. S!
Nice tip bout creating the markpoints. Enjoyed the video 👍
Great tutorials Tricker👍
Love what you do, keep it up.
fa 18 has insane nose authority, i do like the f16. its awesome how you've done the same mission with different air crafts :)

I have a question.
How do you make your cursor visible to touch buttons?
Pls tell me because i dont have any idea.😥

Is this being done in vr? Where it's one to one tracking hmd. Or with head tracker?
Great teaching! What's the diff btwn CAGED / UNCAGED? What are their functions? (newbie)
how do I switch from the F-16 to the F-18? is there a video that explains how to manage the displays and targets?
I really enjoy your videos Tricker. I grabbed your TrackIR profile and noticed that the yaw axis is faster left than it is right. Is there a reason for that? Keep up the good work!
Hey thanks! No reason actually, I will take another look at it and see what I did; thanks for bringing it to my attention
Nice one dude been a minute since I've flown the F18.
Pyro
I miss you in the f18
Great video, but you should try out the laser mavs as you can fire from longer range and do not need a contrast lock.
Yep you can, was just demonstrating how to use the HMD basically to put weapons on targets
Hey nice vide many thanks! I wonder if it's possible to lock one maverick to one target, then step to another missile and lock it to another target, and finally ripple launch both pursuing different targets each, similar to what you did in the F-16 CAS video.
Unfortunately not that I know of, atleast not like the f16
Anyone know why when I target depress, the marker flies away? the TPG doesnt stay where I locked
Freaking A, you make this shit look easy....and I've been flying for years. Good stuff
Good job

Interesting because my FOV changed on the maverick when I didn’t press the FOV button on the OSB.
@@TrickerDCS yeah you’re right! Weirdness. Keep pumping out these sweet videos though!!
hey man, forget about the mirage 2000 guide, its been 3 weeks... can you make an f5e video on enigma cold war server?
Haha I’m still going to make one
How do I land?
why are you watching this then
@@potatosuc4950 because I'm stuck in the air and need help, step bro!
Hornet gives more forgiveness in landings. Unlike the Viper and some others.
Or get really low and slow, then eject.
