i guess i learned a begginer/intermediate version of this through trial and error in other vr dogfighting sims and I have to say its my favorite version of dogfighting, the joy i feel when i hug the mountains while defending against missiles and then being able to whip around and shoot is unmatched
"almost hit the ground there... no problem". How you stay so cool when you basically mow the grass constantly at Mach 1 with a missile warning screaming in your ears always astounds me. Great vid once again GS.

@@kyuby534 minimum arming range for missiles I believe, the space needed for a missile to arm, track, and have enough lead to hit a target
@@skyofstorms actually its the minimum abort range. The range where if you pass it there is a high chance of you getting splashed unless theres some mountains or you manage to notch it.

GS's videos are so silky smooth; the Track ir, music, and calm voice makes it feel like I'm riding in an relaxing elevator while watching him lure unsuspecting bandits to their death.

Don't even have hardware to run DCS properly, but as an aviation geek I just love love love the channel. Also as a finnish person, love the legacy Hornet.

@@ryz_vik I feel for you. I couldn't play for a long time cause I was on a laptop with a GTX 660m with a 2.3ghz processor. I had the laptop for a decade and when it gave up I got a PC with a 3060 ti and I've enjoying DCS so much

@@gb7418 this story is more of a joke inspired by my experience. The f18s radar is pretty wack these days in dcs. It drops locks constantly when compared to the f16. Even when messing with interleave, refresh rate and track file store time, its not great.
I hate the hornet radar these days it loses lock constantly, F16 tho TMS up and bang you never lose him...
@@chronics143 I see - haven’t tried the viper in a while and 0 experience with the hornet, but I remember the viper losing lock easily compared to the BMS Falcon viper. It annoyed me.
@@gb7418 I’ve only been flying the F16 for a few months now but it seems to maintain a solid lock most times only time I lose lock is if the bandit nose dives for the ground and hides in mountains over than that it’s great

So helpful I've been going at the hornet all wrong she's great about letting you know what's gonna shoot you down the radar only sees about 60nm
Love it. I'm workig on getting a good HOTAS. Ive been "playing" DCS with a keyboard for almost a year. Huge disadvantage.

Are you using the VR headset still these days normally for these engagements or using the IR tracker? Finding it obviously more immersive to use the VR headset, but also having difficulty learning the software without being able to see the controls.

I’ve always been flying in a hornet and when I engage in a dogfight, I forgot to pay attetion to the hard deck and when I notice that he’s flying away I’m always confused on why he’s flying away until I see why and notice that I’m about to crash into the ground.
You have any suggestions for the hornet losing the lock constantly even when all the parameters are good (target is hot, set to the right altitude, target is in the radars field of view, etc). I’m not sure if it’s lag or ping to the server

ya it doesn't have the power to get fast and get high which are 2 super important things in BVR.
As we see the pilot is the biggest weapon and not the plane? When we talk about similar capability planes. I would like to watch you playing PvP using an older generation plane like F4 phantom or similar.

How do you keep your left display from switching to stores when you change from AIM 120's to AIM 9x? My left display ALWAYS automatically changes to stores...

That config you're flying is making me nervous, even on a virtual aircraft... Never done a 6+6, but a couple of 10+2, and those are always a pain in the backside, especially the LAU-127 test. On that note, does the aircraft's flight behaviour change with the armament in DCS? I've known some real-life Hornet pilots to refuse to fly certain training missions with a 10+2 config, saying that "it flies like a bus".

Rule of thumb for aim-120: 30nm at 30000ft, 20nm at 20000ft, 10000ft and below 10nm

Can you explain what is in the HUD and radar? It's a lot to take in when you don't know any better.

Their flight models are identical in DCS, since the Super's just a mod for the Hornet. The difference is entirely cosmetic.

Is there a reason you stayed with trackir and not VR? I’m trying to get into DCS but the setup is a pain. Currently trying VR but even with a top tier PC and 2080 Ti I can’t run my Reverb at max settings without choppiness.
I’ve heard people say once they go VR they never go back but it seems you have?
A headtracker provides more FPS and smoother movent which is better for recordings.
