It totally adds something other than immersion. I seemed to have understood and retained it better in my head because it's got that "importance" sound, like the chatter from the AWACS. Really nice touch.
Some additional tips about HSD that are not covered in this video: 1. When HSD is SOI, you can move the cursor up and down across the upper and lower edge of the screen to change the range on HSD, similar to how you operate the radar. You don't have to move your hands off your stick and throttle to click the OSB buttons to change range. 2. The second OSB button on top of the HSD that says DCPL means decoupled (correct me if I am wrong), basically it means the range selected on your HSD is not synced with the range selected on your radar. If you press DCPL, you can change the HSD mode to from DCPL to CPL (coupled), which will sync the range selected on your HSD to the range selected on your radar, so you don't have to change SOI and perform the action I mentioned in tip #1 to change the rage on your HSD. You can just move the radar cursor on your radar to make the HSD range change with your selected radar range. This is extremely useful for AA scenarios. Since as your target gets closer, your selected radar range will get smaller. With your HSD range synced with your radar, you will get a more precise picture or SA on your HSD. But be aware, targets outside your selected range will not be shown both on your radar and HSD. These features are some examples of the awesome representations of F-16's amazing HOTAS design, allowing pilots to fly the jet and operate the sensors without having to move their hands off the stick and throttle.

If I am not mistaken the SAM indicators and threat rings on your HSD are loaded into your jet from a notional data cartridge and not over Link 16. When on a persistent server the SAMs and threat rings will not disappear after the SAM has been destroyed until you get a new jet. When the TDOA (Time Delta of Arrival) feature is added to the HTS pod we will be able to get a much finer position of the emitting SAM sites on the HAD page using the datalink. Although I don't believe there are or will be threat rings on the HAD page. I don't know if any of that data is fed over to the HSD page at all.

Especially when sneaking up on guys in the valleys, I love making a DL selection. Also, I think it's good practice to lock someone and immediately make a DL selection on them. The HSD cursor follows the RDR cursor, so it's better to make a selection immediately instead of having to move the HSD cursor around after you realize you've broken lock. In addition to that, during a BVR engagement with multiple bandits, I like to get a radar lock on the lead and a DL selection on one of their wingmen. I actually got this tip from Longshot and it's really nice for SA. Thanks bogey for making this awesome video! The fact that you can automatically switch targets using TMS right short was new to me and I will definitely use that in the sim. Will see if it's usable in a crowded airspace. Also, I would've liked you explain what the logic behind the automatic switching is aka whether it's by distance or it selects targets in a clockwise fashion. L16 and TNDL are one and the same. As far as I am aware, Eagle Dynamics changed the name to TNDL due to "complications stemming from our other businesses". Matt Wagner called this out in a pinned comment on his Datalink update video from late last year - ruclips.net/video/vmPGDhcfZkk/видео.html "NOTE 3. Due to complications stemming from our other businesses, we had to adjust datalink terms. In this case, Tactical Net Datalink (TNDL). "
We didn't even have the HMCS at Luke when I was there. I didn't have a HMCS sensor in my jet until I was at the 18th. They installed them right before we swapped them out with Kunsan.
Yep, it's also both in some cases. If for example you've got 2 vipers looking at you, first one is at 20 and the 2nd is at 40 miles. The one at 20 will show up closer. But when you're locked by the 2nd at 40 the RWR will prioritise that 2nd one and it will show up closer.

What drives me nuts about anyone's air to air training videos. Including the Air to air training missions in DCS for the F16. Is they will give all of the button presses for everything, except how to lock a target. And in the training mission he has the gull to say if you need to know how to lock a target, read the manual. Like what the actual F is that? Is it a secret? I looked through the manual, it talks about everything except how to lock.
That is frustrating. Fortunately I have a video that goes over how to lock right here - ruclips.net/video/bvKaEqYfn0M/видео.htmlsi=2MOHWbbLs7GNRN6G
Hope that helps.
@@bkpickell here's one I made on how to lock the Aim-9x as well in case you need it.
@@BogeyDope thanks, I've probably watched it a long time ago. I broke my arm a year ago right as I started playing and haven't been able to play since. I'm extremely rusty, it's like I just started playing.
I even searched the keybinds tab for anything like lock, target, acquisition, etc. Nothing. I've tried TMS UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, DMS, UP, Down, left, right. Nothing. Bright side while doing that I figured out DMS down is SOI.
I just don't understand why is it such a secret?
@@bkpickell not a secret. TMS up is lock. But just pressing TMS up will not lock just anything. You have to put your radar cursor over what you want to lock, or in the AIM9x case, the diamond over it first, then TMS up and it will lock. I go over it in both videos. Hopefully that helps
@@BogeyDope ok maybe it's bugged out on me as I had my cursor over it on every attempt. I was doing long presses short presses and everything in-between. At least I know now. Thanks.
Outstanding - Thanks this helps a lot ("Pivot").
