I'm new to DCS, flying the P-51, and F-86, and been thinking about buying the F-16, and your tutorial is concise and easy to understand. * subscribed *
Tricker, once again a absolute fabulous video - especially your Viper videos are my favourites here on YT. Unfortunately the Viper is actual a little -broken- "dis-optimized", I read so many threads on the DCS-forum where peaople write about their viper-disappointment. And what happens? After a while they get closed by some mod on the forum. But before someone get's me wrong: I came to DCS because I saw the first F-15E-Trailer. Today I have 7 times more hours on the Viper than in the Mudhen. 💞F-16 Viper💞
There are a few things broken on the Viper (mavericks) but you can still use these other weapon on problem. I’m happy you got yourself into DCS, that’s ultimately my goal for this hobby that I do. Thanks for your support!
Good video dude, I wish something like this was out when I was working my way through it. I hadn't explored how far you can make the agm88 work to point to the site, I've always tried to point as straight as I can but it's nice to know it can do it for when range isn't an issue.
Cool video! You can use it to learn much more *realistic* and challenging Air Defenses in one of BMS' many dynamic campaigns! 😉👍 But in BMS you can also use GBU-39's from much further distances and not have to worry about these "point-blank" style tactics.
Would love to see a solo dead or sead mission on something like an SA6 protected by an SA15. I usually go for JDAMs on the SA15 then swap to HARMs - would love to see your take.
hi there.. thanks for the video! Can you please clarify why the TGP is tracking the sa6 sam site at 8:30. I believe it is because your steerpoint is set to 1 and that it is not tracking the HAD target. Please confirm. I believe i was mistaken in thinking that the TGP will auto track the HAD locked target when you switch to it.
The TGP is looking at the steerpoint 26 that T created by setting a markpoint at the SA3 site (point track on SA3). Took me some time to get this too 😀
When I'm slewing my tdc on the HAD page to find and lock the radar emitter, it goes too fast even though I tuned my axes in DCS settings. So I need to use my keyboard instead ro control the tdc because it is slower and more precise. How did you tuned your ministick axes? (I have a Virpil CM3 throttle and I use his ministick) Thank you.

Thank you for the showcase! I tried it out the other day, I was attempting to engage a hawk site, however the radars just would not show up on the HAD display. It was locked on to me and it managed to shoot me down. Am I missing something? Do i need to configure hawk radars as a threat somewhere?

@@MCP2002 I’m not going to lie, it’s tough, especially if you fly every module. It’s going to be rough coming up with the release of several modules around the same time as well
Then people forget that just because the radar is down. They can still fire at you using the seeker heads radar of the missile. But you are usually lower or have gone past the site. Their range is seriously reduced but still a threat.
Some launch vehicles can fire independently like the Buk or Tor as they carry their own engagement radar (the real life MH17 shootdown was caused by a Buk crew firing with their engagement radar with no search radar to tell them it was a civilian airliner). But command guidance missiles do not carry a radar and missiles with an active seeker which point up in their deployed TEL cannot acquire a plane. What's possibly happening is that you are taking out the search radar but the engagement radar is still online, or you are facing a battery with TELAR vehicles which have a smaller and shorter range engagement radar.
I agree with you, this is a very basic guide to get started and if there were manpads and other systems in the area it would have been bad news. I wish the default sam systems in Dcs were better

King of SEAD....where the enemy is using static permanently emitting radar guided sams if sead includes ir sams then it's definitely not king....and for radar guided sams which don't emit until firing or are mobile then it also isn't great.....but in DCS most radar guided sams are set up to permanently emit and mobile sams are usually static.
It’s hard to simulate an exact scenario where I can showcase the superior systems of the HTS pod when the vanilla game of DCS world won’t allow you to have mobile SAMs or have the radars act like they would in real life without running scripts. If the SAMs would continue to pop on and offline, the HTS pod does an outstanding job at finding those radars to quickly fire a HARM towards the radar. IR SAMs will always be a threat in any environment to any aircraft, but in this video I was just trying to showcase how you can use the HTS pod and HAD to quickly find and engage enemy SAM sites.
Even if SAM sites are not static they take time to move. We have just seen in the last few days a S-300 system being hit by HIMARS and a S-300/S-400 battery hit by ATACMS. The ATACMS was extremely effective because while in theory you use cables to link the vehicles and spead out the battery, the SAM crews eventually got complacent and bunched up the vehicles together. So the ATACMS cluster munition rain nailed the entire battery. The mobile SAM is nice in theory. But nobody can run forever. Eventually there's a slip up.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD Were talking DCS not IRL....but some SAMs can fire on the move. SA8,15,19 can track on the move and only need to stop to actually fire....and when moving HARM usually miss. SA-13 and SA9 can fire whilst actually moving. SA-11s can go from moving to searching in 60 seconds and firing in 90 seconds.
@@TrickerDCS The Harrier can find an destroy IR SAMs and AAA very easily...especially for a SEAD mission where there is a specific target area which needs to be cleared. A harrier can cover 100sqm in about 10-15 minutes finding and destroying SA9s or even manpads and it can find an identify manpads from infantry at over 40 miles in a small area (like an airbase). HARM are clearly superior to Sidearm, however sidearm can outrange SA2,3,6 and 11 ...but it cannot outrage an SA10 (it can but not in any practical sense). Sidearm also places symbology on the HUD allowing you to slave the TPOD to find sams such as SA8, 13 and SA19s which can then be fired on with either the sidearm......but the real power is when you use APWKS instead so you can take out literally a dozen SA8s and still engage SA2s 11s etc. The Harrier also has LJDAMs so can overfly many SAM sites and hit mobile SAMs one at a time.....but can drop 10 LJDAMs in a single pickle taking out 10 targets wiping out air defences in a single press. SEAD is much more than flinging HARMs (which the Viper is definitely the king of). The Harrier isn't as good at the Viper for long range SAMs...but is good enough....but is far better for short and medium range SAMs. A Viper and a Harrier together....now that IS a powerful combo.
@@Pukin-Dog I get it, you like the harrier, I do too… I have many videos on it and fly it often online. But, in my opinion the f16 can be just as destructive and even more so. If the two are paired together then of course it will be amazing, but the F16 would provide the SEAD while the Harrier provided the DEAD.
I’m really quite annoyed at the game at this point in time, because there always seems to be something wrong with it, no matter how many tutorials, manuals and people I ask, they can’t figure out why (sometimes it’s gbus not tracking in the f16, sometimes it’s vikihrs not launching or spinning off when released, sometimes it’s vehicles not spawning at all, sometimes it’s steer points being way off in the tgp and hmcs and it’s something else every time) and I just can’t fix it. I’m just not sure whether my game is bugged, all my modules are bugged, my hotas is the problem or I manage to fuck it up every time and no one can figure out how .-.
Sometimes taking a break and coming back to it is best. Sounds like you have multiple issues going on. You can join the discord and ask questions or try and explain here. Sorry you're having trouble but a lot of the stuff does work, and sometimes it doesn't.

Jeff is amazing at Sead/Dead, four Anti-Radiation missiles and two sensor fused glide bombs is a lot of firepower (I usually take one GB-6 and a fuel tank on the other wing).
i still dont understand how sead works, like how can you be sure no sam is there waiting for you to come to NEZ .. like a SAM that is turned radar off and with infrared sensors just waiting for those flying F16 going with harm to finish off what they think is a dead SA6 radar (but could have easily be a repeater-decoy that transmits as if its sa6.. and you go 5 miles close to REAL sa6 and they blast the f out of you. cuz i think this would be reality and also reality in dcs if we would have option to operate sams.. sadly today in dcs sams are as braindead as GCI plane going full afterburner across the map and running out of fuel 20 miles before engaging in combat and RTB..lol
That's the beauty of SEAD. There's a reason the mission used to be called "Iron Hand" and the patches for Wild Weasel had "YGBSM" written on them ("you gotta be shitting me" - reactiom when you're told to go after SAMs). The reverse is also true. Imagine you're seeing contacts and you're not sure which are decoys or just electronic warfare creating false images, you decide to turn off your radar to fool the HARM but then you don't know if a glide bomb was released. Or you never got in on the action, because a low flying Storm Shadow hit your command vehicle to create an opening for a strike package. Never saw it coming.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD storm shadow not going to hit command anything, we see in ukraine how horrible the real stalemate is, air superiority is dead, only f22 with stealth can MAYBE change the equation, but for most part Russia superiority in Air defense has been proven correct, it totally negates air power, USA would struggle alot, defeating SAMs is just impossible, they can be anywhere, inside a house, wharehouse, etc.. barn yard, u going to storm shaddow anything that can fit a SA11?
