My Indian BFFs mother always forced me to eat when I picked her up to go clubbing. She always had food left for me to eat. Her father always yelled at her to give me food even if I was stuffed. I always ate though😂 they also loved me because I drank milk, which my friend never did. And because I can handle spices they literally applauded me the first time 😂😂😂🥰

I traveled thro' Rajasthan this year and loved it. I have a walking disability ( I use a cane)and the people were most kind and helpful.
In contrast, last year,I was in Schipol airport and the staff were rude and very dismissive.
The roots of Indian hospitality lie in their respect for the "Atma" i.e. life.
Thus they bow to you in respect of your humanity.

One of the things that shocked me was In India, suppose your are sitting on a bench eating chips and someone who you don't know comes and sits on your side , People will automatically offer you whatever they are eating and I do the same thing . But when I was abroad I was sitting on bench in park eating some french fries a dude came sat beside me , So naturally I offered him french fries , First he started was opened his eyes wide open in shock and Asked me "Do I know you ?" I said No . but in the end he took some fries (still hesitantly ) XD

There was this vegetarian family who were visiting my place and we being bengalis always have non vegetarian food in the house.. I remember my mum and sister deep cleaning the whole kitchen while our guests were unware sitting in the living room with my dad. She made 3-4 vegetarian dishes within an hour for them.. Ivana, don't feel bad. When we say that when we come to your country you can pay for us is just to asure you that you are a non loader. Its a simple way of saying that we are not thinking of you as a free loader at all. It doesn't mean that we are really expecting to be paid if ever we happened to come to Netherlands or to be paid back at any point of time. Yes, we have the habit of speaking in reverse sense also from time to time. The meaning will be exactly opposite of what we say with words 😉. When i was kid and was learning about all these formalities of our Indian culture, i used to be soooo confused and once in a while irritated also as most of the things were extra dramatic to my taste back then. Now, I have become just one among all Indians (atleast to most extent).😊

In India , History is full of Speachless Hospitality... Even today , if you visit to a slum area in search of food... They will share free of cost with you generally. No matters whether they had not eaten for days. In many Temples like ISCKON and some GURUDWARAS , people always donate money and free of cost food is offered 3 times a day to everyone daily. This helps poor peoples in our country.

There is a thing called "Ivana syndrome". Are you aware of it?? I have been using it quite a lot apparently, these days on other reaction channels. Let me explain- see,The thing is, when you started off Ivana, Indians were very curious to know what a foreigner dutch girl has to say about India and Indians. People were suggesting you places, foods, movies - right left and center with lot of pride. There were many explanations given to what they assume were bad experience for you. Do this ivana and dont do that ivana?? It was a novelty- your expressions, experiences, your exploring india, it was fun to watch. But now you are on your 3rd visit to this country. Watching your video is like now watching one of us- another indian, talking about India. What do we tell you that you already dont know, what else can one suggest you now? Nothing. You are more indian than most indians. You have traveled and covered more india then most indians have or probably will ever do? From leh to cochin- you have seen it all. You know indians like back of your hand...damn it what do we tell you now which will surprise you?? We know you love india, so even your criticism of things cant be held against you as a view of european. What do we do now? Thats called Ivana syndrome- where viewers are utterly confused. Is it a good thing or bad? I dont know, girl. All i know is you are one of us. God bless

I think this is the most beautiful compliment I've ever had from an Indian. Thank you and bless you! I do have to say, even though I know a lot about India, the thing I love most is that it still amazes and surprises me every single day. I keep telling this to my Indian friends who say I'm so Indian: the devil is in the details. From simple things like how Indians drink their water from a water bottle to the movie theatre guy stopping me from walking to my chair while the National anthem is playing. I;m still learning so much every single day and I can't get enough of your beautiful country. Thank you for having me over for the third time and always making me feel more than welcome.

God bless you. Some times I think people having such strong feelings to a place are going to have some karmik past connections. That might be the reason for strong hate and dislike for a place like India which I agree is indeed a special land. If I have to describe it in one word from my own experience then I would call it spiritual. That's why people are so much content in what looks like adversity to us; they are still one in so much diversity to surpass any continent; where joy and utter sadness exists side by side still without disturbing the equilibrium that is called life. May be you are a reincarnated soul (-:

So ,my dear friend "Don't feel bad if someone indian friend pays for u". .You shud feel blessed to have such loving friends ☺️

+ellie, muffasa and others I'm not sure what you're talking about, what I meant was that the Dutch have had bad experiences with immigrants, but that those immigrants weren't from India. I'm talking mainly about muslims from Morocco and Turkey.
Btw I'm not aware of India taking any refugees from Syria at all. Not to mention "refugees" from the Maghreb, sub-sahara Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan etc.
I don't know where you get those numbers from, but when the crisis started, Germany got over 1.5 million illegals in a year. And that's a small country compared to India, which is actually a sub-continent. Sweden is even worse, has just 10 million people, 2 million are foreign and they keep coming in by the 100 thousands. I read about gangrapes there every week, not to mention the knifings, shootouts, car burnings and grenade attacks.

      Hi there Biswajit
#1 The dutch parents usually live alone once the children are married and adults (but usually live closeby). Not particularly because the children don't want to take their parents in house, but the dutch people like to be independant, even when they are old. If they can't live by themselves anymore usually they are living in Senior appartments with other old people where they get help from nurses (for going to the bathroom and those things).
#2 No we usually just live as Husband, Wife + their children (if they have those).
#3 Because the society (the samaaj) control and correct eachother, and parents teach their children not to pollute the streets. If you would throw something on the streets, people would friendly ask you to throw it in the garbage. People feel ashamed if they pollute, it would be besharam. Also the government spent a lot of money on cleaning.
#4 I think Dutch people can learn about the things Ivana mentioned, such as how to threat guests. Provide them with food and be more welcoming. Dutch people are greedy people, they will save every dollar even if they don't need to. They almost get a heat attack if they have to pay more money. But the Dutch are very hard working people. Dutch people do NOT have the mind-set "log kya kahenge" which makes they free minded and independant. Where for Indians I would definitelly say be more open-minded and don't discriminate. People are far too judgemental I believe. Also don't stare at people with bad-eyes, be aware how other people see you. Always be happy and be positive, open and joyful towards anyone.
#5 Weddings are very modest, only 10-20 guest. Whole wedding takes about 3-4 hours. Don't people don't know how to dance or how to party, also they don't want to spent much money on weddings as they see it as a waste of money. But that's also why they are doing so well
#6 Christmas,New Years Eve, Sinterklaas, Carnaval (google it)
#7 Fathers are not rude and definitelly not strict. Basically once children are 16-18 they are allowed to do whatever they want boys and girls both (they have a lot of freedom). But you see that it benefits the relationship with their parents because the Parents become sort of friends with the children, and they go to their parents for advice rather than asking permission. Also Children get a lot of privacy from their parents

When I was in primary school about three decades ago, we had story in Bengali (my mother tongue) titled 'Bandhraksha', literally meaning 'saving the dam'. It was about this little boy, Hans, about the same age as we were back then, who on his way back home after school spots a small hole in the dam and spends the whole night sticking his little hand into that hole and thus saves his village from being flooded by the ocean. We, as young boys and girls, came to know from that story that The Netherlands (Holland, as we used to call your country then) sits below sea level. Thanks, Ivana, for bringing back sweet childhood memories. By the way, I'm hopelessly bad with money. 😆

In the south it's no issue at all to walk in through your friends' backdoor because they always have enough food for you to join in. And when you go out the check can be split unevenly as well: I had older friends as a child, so at bars they insisted they paid two rounds of drinks for every one I gave.
