I have had 3 Range Rover Sports. 2007 TDV8, only did about 6000 miles in it over 1 year. Never had any problems. 2014 TDV6 L494, had it 2 years and did 30,000 miles. Apart from scheduled servicing, the only problem was a sensor on the exhaust that cost £45. Currently got a 2020 P400e plug in hybrid. Only had it 2 months, not had any problems and averaged 68mpg over 1800 miles. Great cars. Just do your due diligence and buy one with full dealer history.

Not had a Range Rover but am now on my second Jaguar XF-S. I owned the first one, an X250 saloon, for about six years. Aside from routine servicing I only had to replace a climate control pipe which started to pinhole. My second one is an X260 Sportbrake. I've owned this one for four years and have no plans to change. Again, routine servicing (just had new discs and pads all around) and nothing has gone wrong at all.
Both cars were previously owned by JLR and driven by employees at their HQ and, as is often the case, very well specified with options.
I've recently renewed my insurance - £350 (6K miles a year living in a rural post code) - and that's a car with comfort access. I'm happy with that.
Generally, I've chosen cars carefully and had them properly serviced. My X260 is, by far, the nicest car I have ever owned.... and I've had plenty over the years!

I started looking at range rovers after watching the Harry’s garage episode when he met up with Jeremy Clarkson and they were waxing lyrical about their L322’s.
I am based in South Africa, and could not find a nice example. Then I stumbled across a white (with black roof and silver wheels) l405 SDV8. I have put 10,000 miles on it (now on 75k miles) and it has been a pleasure.
I have had an issue with one of the rear parking brake actuators, replaced it myself, at a fraction what LR wanted to charge. I also double up on the oil changes - really easy to change the oil and filters.
    I also have a D4 sdv6. The v8 diesel is a gem.
I think they are great value to someone a little mechanically minded. Get a GAP tool (or other diagnostic) and oil extractor pump and go for it 🎉

I own a 2020 SVR Range Rover and had it from new, I’ve owned various range rovers for the last 15 years. The reliability really depends on how it’s treated and looked after, I’d always advise using a specialist or main dealer for servicing etc. The insurance has gone up tremendously but don’t forget it’s a lot a car lol. Great content, keep it coming. We purchased a 2015 L405 Autobiography diesel Hybrid as an approved used in 2020, what a magnificent car when it was fault free, genuinely awesome. Over 18 months we endured 7 trips back to the main dealer to remediate electrical faults, all of which put the car in limp mode, all thankfully under warranty. Had 2 L322s previously, both of which were OK by comparison. I have since moved to a 1991 RR Classic, and guess what, zero issues over 3 years and 15k miles.

I’ve just purchased 2017 l405 4.4sdv8 with 60k miles fully spec autobiography with not many options not included, I did payed 27k £ but the auto trader valuation said it should have been over 40k£, one owner with full dealer and spec list service history. Key has it been looked after and serviced. And 12 months warranty frown in as well. The market is crazy but I’m happy and still pinching myself. But still be careful it’s tempting to consider a 10k option but you will definitely need to be spending some time working on her. But if you get a good well looked after and don’t skimp or neglect her she will be a good to you. Insurance and rd tax are expensive but it is what it is, but I found an equivalent x5 came to the same insurance for the LR and insurance has gone up across the board. Crazy times but I’m very happy and carnt wait to have a play with her tomorrow.

@@goldenn292lol. Diamond cut 10 spoke. Nice thing is it’s not been modified from factory bar some security options. Which is to be expected from a cared for l405. But coming from l322 it’s massively improved. Not saying l322 was bad, but personally I would recommend l405 2017+ are the best option, follow the rule full service history MUST. Ideally not been modified, low ownership, matching tyres and well kept. There is no 100% guarantee you will have 0 issues but that could be sad with any car. But it’s a heavy 4x4 so bushes and bearings will need attention every 4 yr or so, and other wearable items will go a little quicker than a corsa…

    • @stevoone342
      @stevoone342 22 дня назад +2

I would also add as advice. Have a safety contingency budget and try not to spend your full budget on the car. So for example on my new to me L405 I’ll probably be putting 2 new tyres on her next week before are small road trip, out of choice though and was the only thing I picked up. That will easily be 500£. L405 are good car for the right owners but can be hell if you try to do minimal mantance or abuse them. Due as mentioned there heavy 4x4 with complex road train. But if you don’t mind serving yourself if you know what you’re doing or are happy to pay someone else they are fantastic cars. Personally I’m going to get myself specialist the do the main yearly servicing and I’ll do some of the simple mantance. But she is my fist L405 from l322 tdv8, and I’ll be better experienced with her in a year or two, but my plan is to run her as a long term car, and she will probably stay a low mileage example even though I’ll be using her for business use as well, mainly a lot of my driving is in the van. Car is for Qoutes, admin, and trips.

3:18 - VX62 ENK !!! That is an extremely rare pre-production press car fitted with the 1700w 29 speaker Meridian stereo. Meridian made three levels of stereo for the L405 and most people think they have it when they don't as they all look the same, but very few are the actual 1700w version. VX cars were Land Rover development vehicles, usually fully loaded and very few were sold to the public. Already had a plate change so can't trace anymore. Huge issue on sunroof cars with drain tubes leaking down the B pillar and rotting the electrics under the seats, so check the drains and for a damp seatbelt.!!

We had a RR Sport SDV8 2014. We bought the car new and drove it till 192000 km. The only problems were that we had rust on the on the pipes that connect the front and rear air suspension and something a limited power sensor fault. Other than those two things nothing major.

Owned an l405 4.4 for a while. Never left me stranded. Loved its. Soft close on passenger side broke and stopped it from locking … thus stopping me from being able to lock the whole car and the oil cooler on top of the engine started leaking. Maintained it meticulously (gearbox, transfercase, diff, filters. Everything) and those were the only issues i had (i also service my cars every 7.5k max as opposed to the idiotic service intervals of ALL manufacturers on modern cars… almost as if they want their cars to be disposable by the time they reach a certain age/milage… ) . Let it go at 97k last year only as i learnt that of cars now being able to be stolen without the the keys even being needing be close to be cloned and that was the last straw. The fact that they can hotwire the car via the gaining access to the obd or the tailgate was enough anxiety.

I've had a LR3. Drove it like it should Went to France in it for weeks at a time. The usual servicing. No problems.
Jag X-type. 100,000 miles in 3 years. Replaced a small pipe which allowed power steering fluid to flow. The replacement pipe was from a transit. Recommeneded by an ex jag mechanic.
Range Rover Sport Autobiography. Again, drove it like it should. Fast as anything. Loved it. No problems.
Downsized to a 1st gen F-pace. What a great car. 3L fast. nimble and comfy, but it ended up being too small when I started to look after my Mum and brother. I am married with 3 kids, plus dog and two ferrets.
Now, I know I've switched the other side, I have a Land Cruiser with 7 seats. It's slow, not as elegant as the JLR, but it's tough and reliable.

Owned most iterations of the Range Rover, classic, p38, L322 and L405, I still have the classic and the L322. They really aren’t that bad in the grand scheme of things, but they are very heavy on maintenance costs, all cars break down, the issue is when it’s a big V8 SUV it inevitably costs a significant amount more to repair. For me, a 4.2sc L322 is the best “modern” Range Rover. If I were to buy another L405 it would be a high spec 3.0d V6, the 4.4tdv8 is seriously impressive, but they are monstrously complicated and difficult to work on, the 3 litre is plenty for every day use and has very few issues.
