    A Bentley would allow comparison with the original Aston Dad Car and compare the original James Bond car with the current one. Plus you could do Top Gear tests to test how smooth the ride is by seeing if water spills, test the sound inside and out etc.

    The 159 3.2 is a 4WD rather than FWD, so that might make it appeal to Ben a bit more, but yeah, modern Alfa's promise the world and deliver a Fiat chassis... That 300C looks so unashamedly American, I kind of wanted it...
    Two I'm surprised didn't get a mention; the S5, which is a 2+2 with that 4.2l V8 and the BMW 645/650i. £10k will get you very nice, well kept examples of either, although they bottom out below £5k, so maybe candidates for that price point (perhaps not recommended as they'll likely be money-sinks).
    The BMW has an engine with a few flaws. It won't nuke itself, but they are expensive, labour intense fixes (Deferred/corner-cut maintenance are the main culprits), although my 650i is a well-kept example and has been an absolute joy.
    Congrats on the Sponsorship Ben, you know you're part of the Automotive RUclips World proper when CarVertical come calling 👍

    I've got a good trade down for this, a BMW 650i or even a 630i. Had the 630i 6 years now (08 M6 facelift), got it when I was 21 for travelling from the southwest of England to north germany for work as an upgrade from my 116i. Cheap to insure (under £500 quid always even today still paying £430), fast with 272hp and 1700kg, not bad MPG (averaged 17-19mpg in Germany because autobahn) and nowadays I get a more modest 27mpg in the UK. Paid £8.5k for it and it's worth about £4k now, no intention on selling it. Never had a major issue, Bi yearly big service, 110k miles now. Biggest spends were new radiator, brakes and discs.

    The Alfa 159 3.2 V6 was mostly 4wd.
    And what you want in a 159 is a 3.2, 4wd, Manual, TI.
    TI is the sportier trim level, a bit more sporty bodykit, bigger wheels, sports seats, lower suspension.
    Audi S6 & S8 with the V10 should be available for under 10 000.
    But not sure about the condition.
    And Mercedes CL500 should be easy to find.
    Good luck with finding your next car.

    Lots of great cars in that price range for sure, for something a bit left field but rare and super under the radar, VW Passat R36 preferably in estate form for that cavernous boot! Yes its not the most sporty to drive for sure, heavy and only comes with the DSG 6 speed but with a 3.6 VR6 with just shy of 300bhp making a fantastic sound track, surely worth a look? I'm not biased or anything................

    These cars arent really bargains are they? even a small issue could cost you 20-30% of the purchase price. They are exciting gambles that you buy accepting that one failure could leave you with a spares or repairs worth half what you paid. With that in mind, Bentley all the way. Id still go R36 Passat for a semi sensible choice 👍

    • @dadcars
      @dadcars  3 месяца назад +1

      even if worse case was to happen like you say and it left you with spares or repairs for half the price… you’ve only lost 5k 🤷‍♂️ most of the cars I love and want to own can easily throw you a 5k bill, at least with a bargain 10k car like these, there is a limit to how much you could lose 😉

    In the Alfa 159 they did not built the Busso V6 anymore (the one with the chromed intakes you see in GTV, 155, 156, 147, 166 etc.), rather a General Motors sourced V6 with similar displacement. It is more advanced and efficient, but less rev-hungry and more weighty, so Alfisti definitely prefer the italian built Busso .

Having looked at my options, the 5.4l supercharged M113 coupled with the 5gTronic is the combo that seems to be less hassle than the 63 AMGs that replaced it. That Quattroporte ending AEG has been around for ages, at least 18 months. It popped up for sale with Car & Classic as an auction, then it was featured in their magazine and didnt sell, then it didnt sell as a classified. Started off at about £15k i think. Oil leak reported on last MOT and i think i recall correctly that the paperwork suggested very "reactive" ownership. Seems like one to avoid. Its was as regal as it was majestic to drive .you felt a cut of shorts when you drove it . I don't think I've ever driven something that felt as special as the Bentley. Just remember if at 15 k that's a cheap car ,only thing is when it needs work and it will its still a hand built fully bespoke car .and so will cost a small penny to fix .plus the road tax may now be eye watering. But saying that I would have another in a heart beat 🇬🇧👍

May be an CLS Shooting Brake AMG 55...
    I wouldn't touch a V6 159/Brera though. Pretty things they are, but from plenty of experience in them they are heavy, dull, and out classed. Its a GM V6 not a Busso, sounds rubbish, drinks, and slow, so whats the point? £5k GT Coupe V6 though, they're on my AT saved search list. 😂

    Any Bentley will be in a different league in every way, several times removed. That said, I think at this price point, they're a bit of a bridge too far. That Arnage is amazing though!
    I love the idea of an S-Type, it should be far more economical then a Bentley while still being really neat, an E63 or A/S8 would be sweet as well!

    I know it's not a V8, but do consider the Audi S4/S5 B8 generation with the 3 liter supercharged engine - it sounds angrier than a V8, and you get a touch of supercharger whine. You might even find one in your beloved Dadcar blue. The pre-facelifts may be available with a manual gearbox - but if going for an automatic, the facelifted ones should be a lot more reliable.

    The Flying Spur is incredible. Considered one a few times but the potential repair bills on them can make M5 & RS6 bills look like peanuts. You'd need a whole bottle of brave pills for that. You could get nine tenths of the comfort and about two tenths of the risk with a Lexus LS600H. Although sub 10k may only get you into a ratty example. Watch Jayemms video on the LS600H...

    You can easily buy a Classic real Bentley for 10K. Just get a Bentley Turbo or even an older Arnage. But be aware that even on these older Bentleys, the parts costs are pretty steep, and they can require a lot of maintenence, with high labour costs for servicing. Your best bet would be to buy from a Bentley specialist garage that will have looked it over and stand behind it.

    • @dadcars
      @dadcars  3 месяца назад

      @geoffk777 3 месяца назад

      @@dadcars Honestly, if it's well sorted and serviced, with a good history, than it's no less reliable than an Aston or Masarati--let alone a disaster like an E60 M5. That's why I recommend buying one from a specialist, so that ii's already got the TLC that it needs. But, no question that a poor example would be a disaster, so buying privately would be risky.

    • @geoffk777
      @geoffk777 3 месяца назад

      The Green-label Arnages are especially cheap. These had the BMW 12 in them. It's a fine engine, but everyone felt that the 6.75 better suited the car, and they fell out of favour very quickly. So they're actually quite a bargain.

    • @AmosDohms
      @AmosDohms 3 месяца назад

      @@geoffk777I love the idea of a cheap Bentley, but I can't help feeling that a S-Type or maybe some of the AMG's are less likely to be ruinously expensive at this price point.

    • @geoffk777
      @geoffk777 3 месяца назад

      @@AmosDohms On the face of it, you would think so, but actually, the Bentleys can be a safer choice. All S-Classes from the 2000's onward have lots of specialized computers and electronics which frequently fail. These are only available from Mercedes and ruinously expensive to replace. A car with a perfect body and mechanicals might be effectively totalled by the electronic issues. Mercedes are also built to very tight tolerences and are insistent on maintaining them. By contrast, Bentleys are hand-built in a much looser and more tolerant way, and are basically mechanical, with few electronics to fail. I'd feel much safer with a Bentley than an S-Class (or an A8 or post-2000 7-Series).
