I knew immediately she’d want the Mercedes when you showed her the interior- that’s every kid’s dream for their parents to have one of them!
Yeah it’s makes a lot of sense!! Not sure why they’re not the go to for parents over SUVs
I agree with you@@dadcars but there's a huge percentage of (mainly female) drivers in the UK who are religious about the advantages of driving "high up" - people are obsessed with this.
@markwood7045 so true. I just bought a 508 estate hybrid which took convincing but it's so good looking and practical. But Mrs is adamant she only ever wants a SUV like a GLC. I'm like Nooooooo! Not in a big city!
I was looking at the Superb tsi 280 4x4 but couldnt afford it so went with a Mondeo titanium X Sport 2.2. Lovely dad wagon for me, the mrs and 2 girls.
Lexus RX450h. Great MPG for a big heavy car and performance is a quite good too. A bit boring perhaps but then again you've got the Maserati.
Cvt gearbag though...
Didn't this man say he had 4 kids and needed a 7 seater?
Since when the Alfa and the A6 Avant have 7 seats!?
I literally addressed this at 1:02 🤷♂️😅
My bad.I have never seen this seat setting before.
I would vote for the Alfa until the kids a still little.
Good luck with the chanel.
It’s all depends on your needs and wants.. like im looking for an suv and seriously considering getting my third Range Rover due it fits my needs. Also i live in a very small remote town in the north where in winter if you don’t have a 4x4 you are stuck. Buying a car for the family as you know needs to fit requirements, you may hate me for saying this but also maybe if you mostly use it in the city maybe consider non 4x4 cars due to safety kit in newer cars are way better than they use to be. And you will get a very nice spec car or mpv. and most uk cities bar northern like Newcastle Charlie or Scottish cities it’s very rear you really need 4 weal drive and the safety benefit in city is minimal compared to 2w modern safety systems like what is in a Volvo for example. I would suggest looking at Volvo ever the XC series or there V series I’ve owned both 2019 v90 and a 2011 xc60 both where super reliable and dependable cars and the service of a main dealerships have been superb out of my experience. But there is many different good options. Like a Picasso could also be something to look at. I noticed when i lived and worked in the south a lot of 4x4 owners never really used 4x4 capabilities let alone they will never go off road. and seemed to own them for status symbols. And we see them here in the national parks scared to get there very expensive 4x4 dirty or pull aside to allow non 4x4 to get passed. Sorry for the rant but it’s irritating when people own 4x4 and refuse to use its capabilities. But with that sad suv like x5 are still good options for families and ride position is awesome. Not trying to divide but open other options.
Suvs are great if you live rural, even then though you need to be willing to let the bushes rub against your wing mirrors... its ridiculous when you see a new range rover taking up all the space on a lane
It’s older than you want, but the Ford Smax with the 2.5ltr 5 cylinder that was also in the Focus ST is certainly an interesting MPV with a 140+mph top speed and 7s 0-60!
Please someone with one of these bring it to me to review!!! id love to film one
@@dadcars, we had one of the 2.5 - 5cylinder S-Max’s
Fabulous car! Really surprised a lot of people 😂 handled really well too, also was available with a seven seat option. Had a steering rack issue and we traded it in, but I’d DEFINITELY get another one it was a hoot when not loaded with passengers 😉👍🏻
Mk1 s-max with the 2.5 is a great shout- very cool budget sporty mpv
A friend of mine has one. I think they are great.
@UPnDOWN ? I'm sure you could have a shot in the Maserati in exchange?
I've got what is perceived as a boring car. A 2017 gen 1 Volvo XC60 D5 auto...however I have tuned it to 275HP (RICA tune) and lowered it 45mm. It's a bit of a sleeper and surprises many, many people! It depends on whether you want to keep your car standard or are happy to modify.
2019 Skoda Superb 2.0 TSI SE L DSG 4WD Estate 268BHP 109k miles on autotrader for £13k
Boring and actually a bit rubbish!
Superb is money trap…
Take a chance on a one owner Cayenne is my two cents. Your interacting with your daughter was adorable 😊
🥹…
You're getting very comfortable "behind the camera" and your content is so genuine and sincere. Keep it up Ben, at times this must seem like a long slog but I believe you'll get there. I am sure all of your subscribers are rooting for you.
Thanks man 🙌🥹
Got to be the Stelvio!!! No contest whatsoever. Cayenne -ruinous, Audi - Boring, Merc Van - No way
audi boring audi's are NOT boring
Lol, yeah it seems the perfect fit all round really. Just need one in an interesting spec!
@@dadcars I didn't used to like red cars, but the Stelvio looks great in red, so I bought one ;)
@@Marcus-cf6xcYep, they are
I know the words “cool” and “MPV” aren’t meant to be used in the same sentence but here’s a suggestion: a JDM import Toyota Alphard. These things are rare in the UK, incredibly spacious and comfortable to be in, and because it’s a Toyota, it will be as long lasting as Edinburgh castle.
Great shout
Alphard I’m all in but.. wife may not be 😅
@dadcars my mum has one I think it's something like a 2.4 petrol automatic. 8 seater.
I just said basically the same thing, great minds ete!
Mercedes E Class estate with 7 seats (2 are rear facing). An E500 with a 5.5 litre V8 will probably be hard to find, but a 3 litre V6 petrol or V6 diesel shouldn't be too hard to find.
Elgrand or Alphard!!!!!!
OMG, just finally got to catchup and watch this episode and your little assistant is soooooooo cute 🥹 I love the honesty, and what the important considerations are in her eyes!
Thanks man 🙌🙌🥰 yeah she’s awesome 🥹
I have a slightly tatty xlwb 8 seater Viano and it's perfect for what I need. The kids absolutely love it, especially on long journeys. I looked at a lot of MPVs but the Viano was the only one that could do conference seating (where the rear seats face each other) and the seats can be removed to use it like a van with 2 or 4/5 seats depending on what I'm doing. I reckon some nice wheels and a body kit (like mine) makes it quite sexy.
That’s what my daughter wanted! 😅 my Vito has amg wheels 😂
Personally I’d go E-Class Estate but if it had to be an SUV, Skoda Kodiaq.
What about Toyota Vellfire V6? I want to buy car for my family but dont know which car will be better
Yep great shout I’d love to try one
I had a trip in a 66ish plate Audi all road and that was so comfortable and a lovely interior- guess that’s the same as the regular one, but the air suspension was amazing through the potholes. Possibly 4wd too. Awesome content, I really enjoy your banter. Currently going through the same decision but only two grown up kids so looking at x3’s (and Stelvios!)
Not the Cayenna, fast and cool but enormous running costs.
MPV - just no.
The S6 would be a lovely car and quick but possibly not big enough for a family of 6. Think the Stelvio out of that lot would be a good choice.
I think the Stelvio would be my wife’s pick if the seat fits
S6 Avant is so much cooler than any SUV. That’s a great idea!
Also agree on the MPV thing, was trying to convince my mum and wife to get a Citroen c3 Picasso, it’s too small for you, but seemed so perfect for a granny and for carting a few small kids and their stuff about. Neither of them agreed though!
I could never drive a Picasso 🙈🙈🙈 it just feels all kinds of wrong
Why not just keep your tried and tested reliable and familiar x5?
The viano was also my dream growing up. I think that would be the most memorable for your children!
A6 estate would make much more sense than an another suv otherwise keep the x5. Actually the Mercedes is a really good option especially since it's cheaper than a transporter
How does a Q5 Actually compare with an A6.
Great video- all it’s missing is a really cool intro animation!
😜…. Making its debut next week 🤯
I’d definitely recommend the Stelvio. We had one for a couple of years (vesuvio grey with red leather veloce) and absolutely loved it, never had any issues with it. I’m an Alfa fan so probably biased but we have a glc currently and much prefer the stelvio. You don’t see many of them which I like. Love the videos!
Awesome! Just need a good one to buy 🤙
As parents to 4 kids ourselves, we've had many different 6 and 7 seater cars.
These days we are enjoying the second gen Q7, fantastic drivers car and still has ample room, but before that we had 2 R350 CDIs.
We still hold a candle for our R Classes, fantastic cars, even more room than the Q7 and great engines too, only reason we switched was because the interior (dash, mainly) was getting a bit long in the tooth and we wanted some more modern features.
Keen to see where you end up with this search 😎
Nice one once again Ben. MPVs are not as common but you can still get them. For £15k or less you could get: Merc B class, BMW 2 series active tourer, Citroen Berlingo, Ford S-Max & Galaxy (apparently they still sell those new!), VW Touran, and..... a BRAND NEW Dacia Jogger! haha
Two series grab tourer is a car I’d love to review
No MPV is cool really IMO. If you need 7 seats I'd be looking at XC90 or X5 likely still
I was always into estates, but sold my 2020 BMW 330d M Sport Touring, for a 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2.2 diesel. Brilliant car, and handles almost as well as my BMW.
Go for the Stelvio!
Want to PX it with me for the X5?! Get back to BMW! 😅
@@dadcars 😂
Chrysler 300c estate with a 6.1 Hemi V8 for£15k. Or you could get a 3.0 diesel for £3k.
I would LOVE to review one of those!!!! please someone email me :)
6 Litre V8 😂 He doesn't live in Texas!
@@andrewwaller5913 His last car was a 6 litre V12 Aston Martin.
My kids only understand mpg and maintenance when I put it in terms of birthday presents.
😂😂😂
I understand that it might be the most boring choice of all times but I still love our seat alhambra. 185hp is plenty enough with the children and dogs in the back and it's the best thing for a family holiday.
I've been thinking along the same lines as you, with the two Italian SUV's I think you'd be disappointed with the space in the back. I had a Citroen C4 Grand Picaso for a while - bit quirky bur easily fits 6 adults, Citroen All Space another option and the Peugeot equivalent. Audi A6 All Road another option - I've been trying to find a nice one but tend to be expensive. Good space in the back I think Honda CRV (wide opening doors) or Volvo XC60, I can't remember if you've already had a Q7 but that along with the XC90 probably a bit too big. Looking forward to see what you end up with 👍 (sorry for the late response).
s6 the c7 are the best famly car ever
I do personally believe it would be a far more practical family car than any SUV tbh
Good man if you can't afford a c7 s6 try c6 rs6 / s6 b7/8 rs4 b8 s4 @@dadcars
Why are you selling the X5 to replace with something similar and similar value?
Your relationship with your kids is so cute , they're gonna grow up to be proper petrol heads. Best of luck with buying their first cars in future 😬😂
They’re fab 🥰
US edition would be perfect Ben. Get in touch with Matt Armstrong sure he would guide you in the right direction!!!!
He’s far too busy for little ol me I’m sure 🙈😅
The best thing for your wife might be the MPV option, specially if it’s going to last another 5 years and the girls are going to get taller. I don’t see the 4 of them in the back of a stelvio fitted comfortably. I also think Volvo state or SUVs might be an option.
Multimac should fit in a Stelvio sized suv! Plan is to change now every 6 months 🤷♂️
If you get a diesel Levante and only do low city miles, it won’t be a happy experience.
Merc MClass Bluetec and honestly if you want a family car you may have to forego European brands especially with such a big family and may have to consider American SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee or go for European Build Japanese like the Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe, but they do family cars much better than Europeans
Until I watched this the Mercedes would never have occurred to me but that’s a very good call
Makes a lot of sense right!?!?!
Volvo xc60
Volvo xc90
Only cool looking mpv is the s max you can get 200bhp diesels or the focus st engine so at least it will sound good
Now your talking with the stelvio and better still your daughter also loves the alfa.
Bring back the MPV!
🙌 I need to feature the fast ones!
If your thinking cool MPVs what about a Nissan Elgrande or Toyota Alphard!
I suggest Audi A6 Estate or Ford Mondeo Estate.
Go for sn AUDI SQ5 3.0 V6 DIESEL 330BHP... LOOKS THE PART UR MISSES AN KIDS WILL LOVE IT 😎👍
Go with what your daughter asked. Think of all the happy memories they will have in the back of that thing.
How far do you drive in one go? If the family car is just used to potter around the city, go for a Jaguar iPace (but make sure you buy a warranty) and put the savings towards another Maserati!
95% of the time it’s used for pottering around town but we do longer family trips a few times a year
@@dadcars that’s what’s stopping me from getting one, as we travel from Bucks to Cornwall twice a year and it would be our only car
So cheap though. Circa £220p/m to finance with a £5k deposit, I don’t think you can go faster for less money!
I've got Octavia vrs estate and the girls love it 😊
I feel like I need to review one
not every dad has 15 kids like you, do some cars for people with 1-2 kids :)
New Full Size MPVs don't exist anymore outside of Van derived ones. Sharan, Alhambra, Galaxy, Espace - no longer made. Last one standing is S-Max. Rest of available ones are Vans with seats
Everyone is buying the less practical and more expensive SUV alternatives 🥲
Toyota Vellfire V6 for a cool MPV. Shame you can only buy imports though
Skoda Yeti?
I feel a Stelvio would be a more exciting option 😊
@@dadcars undoubtedly and if I had to have an SUV it would be the one I would want. There's just something about the Yeti I like, not even sure why.
@@chaycock65 they stopped making them a wile ago getting older and harder to find as time goes on. Must all be well under £15k now
It has to be a van like the A team. Black with red diagonal stripe. What about a Ford transit custom?
Great shout - I had one a couple of years ago - with the 180PS engine; couldn’t help myself from singing the theme tune every time I drove it; bonus is the seats in the back can swap to do conference seating
If you are selling the bmw, that means you want an Audi 2.0 tdi 😅
£15k budget but looking at free cars? Am confused
Audi Q7 3.0 TDI SE quattro imo
I feel a build coming on Ben, something like a 2.0 TSI Tiguan. Or Skoda Superb, 4x4 and propper rapid with the same underpinnings as a golf r / S3. Plus you would have some change for performance mods....
Maybe a build is the only way I’ll find the cool 6 seater with an amazing engine 🤔
Gla 250 or the 220 decent suv for less than 15k also the glc are nice
Cant beat a good vanio my kids eant me to get one when i finally get round to doing my test
Hi bud I have a 13 plate cayenne after having the X5 and it is a great car we love it , looked @ merc ml which had rusty arches @£18k😮
Every cars a lottery good luck with it 👍
I’ve already got a rusty Merc… don’t want another 🙈
With you on the death of the MPV… I was in the same space as you… was looking for a fast MPV. Ended up with a super rare VW Sharan 2.0 TSI DSG 200bhp.. only one of 15 made in 2012!
Nice! Such a shame isn’t it!
It’s always the case. Men want an estate and the wife wants a hatchback on stilts.
Get a jdm mpv like the Nissan elgrad they look so cool imo
VW multivan? Caravelle? Its a bit like Merc but smaller
Love the channel, been watching your videos as a massive petrol head and having the opportunity to spend some money in the near future on a silly Dad car following some boring diesels I need some ideas!
Keep up the good work!
Awesome you’ve found the right channel! 🙌😅
A Lexus SUV or a Cadillac station wagon.
Love your work fella. Just waved goodbye to a Maserati Ghibli which after a debris bump with the undercarriage was an instant eco write off. Outside of that it was a great DADCAR.
great value cars the Ghibli now
Toyota Alphard/ vellfire
Japanese import, 3 litre V6
Comes in 7 & 8 seats 👍
I REALLY want to review an alphard!! I think they are awesome but I think my wife will say they’re ugly 😬
F11 535d touring, go on, you know you want to! 😂
how about a Chrysler grand voyager ? - my family has had one of those for 10 years now and its perfect for both short and long trips with tv screens, sliding doors and a MASSIVE boot !
Fantastic shout! Someone I know recently sold one and was just slightly off timing wise!
oh no - I never realised how cheap they were on auto trader until checking now, so definitely a great deal. @@dadcars
could of brought an top spec insignia and had some change.
its a problem that never ends, I have a 911 C4S that I love but as a family we are steadily out growing it with daughters aged 13 and 9, it's just getting too cramped in the back. I'm not a fan of SUVs or any other Porsche model than the 911, so I'm having to think wider, but don't want to loose my shirt on something!
At least you had it with them while you could make it work :) made some wonderful memories
If you like performance but need practicality I have just picked up an alfa stelvio quadrifoglio and it fits that bill incredibly! 😊
Have a look at the JDM import MPVs like the Alphards and Elgrands etc
I’d love one! 🙌
Cayenne’s are great fun, but choose wisely (unlike me!). 957 turbos are a totally sensible family car imo.
Yeah I’d need one that had recently had a lot spent on it! 😅🙌
@@dadcars that’s a good plan 😁
If you went a little older the Mercedes r class
You missed out on the Porsche Cayenne 4.2 tdi. It's a Gem. I'm thinking about trading in my Panamera turbo for one then remapping it, 0 to 60 under 5 secs (remapped) and over 30 mpg combined.
I was just thinking. Or even the 3 litre...
I’ll get a Panamera on soon I hope 🤙
@@dadcars They are absolutely fantastic, but only in GTS or Turbo/ Turbo S guises, the diesel is Ok but Audi and BMW offer better diesel performance for less cash.
My Turbo is a 1st gen, that's where all of the bargains can be had, they are thirsty if you enjoy the performance but I get 26mpg on my daily commute.
Build, handling, performance, and reliability are excellent, my last car was a BMW 730d with comfort seats, this has more of everything plus, wierdly , its more comfortable.
Only two seats in the back though so may not suite your child seats.
What about an import? Similar to the viano, Nissan elgrand?
yeah I am open to it, you don't always get the best value for money with imports though.
That Viano is awesome. I’m now on Autotrader looking myself 😅
Don’t blame ya!
I am also looking at a stelvio currently, but they seem kind of tiny interior wise & don't see how i could fit an isofix base seat and all the travel stuff for my daughter. I have only 1 daughter and it seems too small, for your 4 😮😅
That Georgio platform is crazy nice and the interiors of alfa's are amazingly designed, also heard a lot of good things in terms of reliability (especially compared to Audi & BMW who seem to have taken Alfa's place as an unreliable car😅), but my Volvo V60 has just a tiny bit more boot space than the Stelvio and I fill it up to the brim already.
Meh modern Volvo don’t inspire me at all.. they’ve lost their way imo
@dadcars yup, unfortunately can confirm. Also reliability is horrible. Bought it because of the safety rep before my daughter was born in a moment of overwhelming concern about how safe the first ride home is going to be, but I kind of forgot about every ride before and after that, that are dull and uninspiring
Volvo V90
Excellent shout 🤙
Wow car prices in uk are low !!! Lucky u
I’d have just kept the X5 to be honest.
UK car prices blow my Swedish mind 🙈 Cars are for sure more expensive here
I keep hearing this 🙈 yet people in the uk moan at me for highlighting “unaffordable” cars 🤷♂️
Think about any of the Japanese import mpvs
Yep I’d love to review some
Grand Cherokee SRT-8 EDIT: They are more expensive than I thought.
Did you see the review we posted on one a few weeks ago?
Now you mention it I did.@@dadcars - I watch a lot of car content.
Skoda superb estate. 180bhp 4x4. Biggest boot in class
I should reach out to Skoda and ask to borrow one for review
I have the 1.4 150 bhp. Average 40 mpg on a run 50mpg. Great for size etc but would recommend treating yourself for the beast one
What about a jaguar F pace? Are they in budget?
I really like the design of the F pace (for an suv) if a good one came up at a good price I’d be game :)
Dad cars can you get a new lamborghini urus performance
If a subscriber has one I’ll happily review it but personally… I don’t get the urus 🤷♂️
The Vauxhall Zafira vxr is a cool mpv like
Yeah I need to review one for sure
I used to sell cars, in the US, and I never understood why moms wanted giant Suburbans and Expeditions to haul their kids. They have no boat/racecar to tow; they feel like those are the ultimate mom vehicles. When really they're subpar at that. Minivans are 1000% better at being people haulers. They ride good, they're quiet, plenty of room, comfy seats. I'm only 27 and I'm already an old soul who would buy a van in a heartbeat
Sounds to me a X5 would fit the bill 😅
Yep! That’s why we’ve had it for over 5 years! 😅 it’s been great
Instead of that Merc, go for a VW transporter. More bang for your buck and maintenance is much cheaper. Had one use that until the last out of 5 kids went to uni. It's still driving, 15 years later.
Sport MPV? , I like my 2021 Mercedes AMG B class 220D . Bit more than your price range though. Does 7 secs to 60 and has one of the best looking dashes around. Had two suv before a VW Tiguan and Ford Kuga. Pointless in the city, best thing I ever did was get the B class. it’s fairly compact, decent boot space, easy to drive with loads of safety tech. Recommended. Only negative engines are a little be noisy.
Toyota estima hybrid efour. Reliable, 7-8 seater, sleek, aerodynamic, feul efficient!
Or lexus RXL
Or mazda CX5 or CX30
Asking your children to pick your car is risky. My Dad was a huge Land Rover fan and convinced my Mum to try a Series IIII. We all loved it and pleaded to buy it. It was the coolest car ever. But it wasn't even synchromesh and drove like a truck and she wasn't having it at all.
A bit left-field, but Chrysler minivans like the Pacifica and Voyager are great for families. They're not the most reliable, but neither are Mercedes. I think a recent PM even owned one of these. An E-Class estate would also be a decent choice, although the running costs might be prohibitive.
PS Your daughter is adorable, as always.
