Question raised right at the start, would you consider the Shadows dictators really? They just wanted chaos, it was the Vorlons that wanted everyone to come under a single authority and for you to follow orders.

So bummed that I missed the Season 4 (the Earth Civil War is apex story telling) and 5 (which stumbles a lot, but still great) podcasts! B5 is my favorite show, but work has kept me way to busy.

Re: vindictivness in JMS treatment of Lenier (spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't seen this far, but that's probably true of the whole comment section on this one):
There's an interview with Bill Mumy online where he talks about him telling JMS he wanted to play Lenier as being in love with Delenn. JMS thought for a moment and said "ok, but be careful what you wish for".
I could be wrong, but I read that as Bill's suggestion giving JMS the idea. JMS knows straight away that Bill won't like it, but decides to do it anyway. I don't see that as rising to the level of vindictiveness as such but I'm not sure what to call it. Obviously JMS is the boss and can do what he likes, but was it unnecessarily mean, knowing as he obviously did (if I'm right) that Bill wouldn't like it? I don't know if it added anything to the show, but I do know that unrequited love can be absolutely poisonous, especially in the mind of someone as emotionally immature as Lenier is.

48:59 Lyta doesn’t fare well either, sadly. Kinda surprised that you didn’t mention her, because in general you are concerned with characters who have not always had their agency.

No. He was incompetent as security chief. An outstanding investigative agent, but a bureau chief, no. No respect for rules and regulations if they impact him personally. An egotist who sees himself at - or is it as - the center of everything. No respect for the privacy of others - yes, we're talking creeping on Talia as well as breaking into personnel files without caiuse. And paranoia and conspiracy theorist. Yup. Great chief there, not.
