I had it pre ordered on the strength of my experience being a backer of their previous game. So I'm watching this more to know what to look out for. I was initally worried about the loading in the demo (a full enviroment load after every time trial or weapons challenge is a bit much) but I'm hoping that post release optimisation will reduce that a little. This studio does not abandon their games post release so I'm fully expecting the bigger issues to get tackled.
Great review as allways. Thanks.
For some reason I'm more hyped for the review than I am for the game 🤔
You know I get this for sure. I love the studio that made the game and it was an ambitious feat to capture Iron Man in a game but I was excited to see what PSVR without parole said about it. I trust their opinion so much when it comes to my sony vr experience!
Oof on the loading screens.. hopefully with PS5 coming up it will drastically reduce load times. Still looks amazing though, can’t wait to play
what did people expect there would be no loading screens on the PS4 and the under powered PSVR headset
I just upgraded my PS4 Pro with SSD drive and cut loading times of all games in half.
Venser external or internal?
Ghost656 Metal I expect loading screens but at that frequent and length is ridiculous. Optimize your game more or have a bigger download size. Loading screens kill fun when they are too long and frequent.
@@MajerHawk Internal. On the Pro you just unscrew single screw and switch the drive. Anyone can do it.
I'll go ahead and buy it now to support the devs and games like this. I think I'll wait for my PS5 to actually play it though. Should help with load screens and "occasional performance issues", which will only be worse on my og PS4.
My backlog of games is huge, including several big tiles. No need to rush.
If Camouflaj optimizes this for PS5 I'd be thrilled! :D
to be honest. i really don’t care about any of the negatives you listed. they all seem absolutely fine to me (i guess minus the performance issues)
Get back to me regarding the loading screens. It’s a great game but those things kill the pacing and suck the fun right out.
@@balsanoid2319 I dont think loading screen times are counted in the campaign play time.
@@WithoutParole I played a lot yesterday I didnt find the loading screens too long but they were vert frequent. That with lots of long cut scenes does slow things down a lot but I found the loading screens completely forgivable for how fun it gets flying and fighting as iron man as you get really good at controlling yourself it is just such an amazing unique blast of fun.
Personally the look and gameplay in this is much better than I excpected and the story has me pretty intruiged aswell as an iron man fan I feel like I am in my own Iron man movie which makes the loading screens understandable to me.
I find if helpfull to have small chair or stool nearby you can sit on during the loads and cut scenes and its no problem at all.
I got really annoyed at all the long cut scenes in truth and blood and didnt really care about or even pay attention to the story in that one but here I am enjoying them so far.
PSVR Without Parole I really hope this game gets a PS5 patch in the generation crossover period. It’s good fun, but the thought of those load screens reducing to near zero with that new SSD.... mmmmmmm....
I'm more bummed about the performance issues than the load screens. But I think those positives outweigh the cons for me. Can't wait to get it.
I’m kinda bummed that it’s so linear, my favorite part of the demo was just flying around and exploring the outside of the mansion
There's a free fly mode for every stage, im pretty sure
Thanks for the honest review! I was bored with the wave shooter style gameplay towards the end of the demo. I was hoping for at least some exploration or deeper gameplay mechanics in the final release. They really nailed the look, feel and flight mechanics of Iron Man, there just doesn't seem to be much variety of things to do as him.
If you were getting bored by the end of the demo, you’ll probably want to skip this one. The full game is essentially just a lot more of what was in the demo. :D
Preordered the move controller bundle cause if you want moves on their own you'd pay double anyway
Same here!
I went into gamestop yesterday and I've been looking for a vr anyway, and they had one of the iron man bundles available for preorder in store. So I took it haha
Also having vr without move controllers is down right silly. Yeah theres a fair amount if good games that use or can use the regular controller. But you are missing out on soooooo much of the vr experience and vr library by not having moves
Also highly recommend the aim for the games that are compatiole with it, it's a serious game changer in the best way
Thanks for the honest review you guys always deliver.
You gave this an 8.4 and it is making people rethink buying it? How many 8.4 VR games do we have? Not that many yes the load screens suck but sounds like he had a blast playing it. Just saying what are you waiting for a game that's a 10? They don't come around too often.
Haven't you heard of the unfortunate games industry phenomenon known as "Eight Point Eight" or "Hate Out of Ten"? From the publishers' standpoint, 8.4 is a terrible review. Which tells you all you need to know about game publishers.
If you're surprised by the 8.4 rating you might want to check igns review for fortnite...they gave it a 9.7 which is saying that its almost perfect. This is why I prefer watching gameplay instead of reading a review because gameplay shows you the actual game, reviews are mostly opinions because let's be honest, giving fortnite 9.7 is insane, just because its the most popular game doesn't mean its good. It has more cosmetics than actual game content and 90% of those cosmetics can only be unlocked by buying season passes making them limited.
The teleporting thing had me rethinking realy hate that.
Thanks bryan I already have it on pre order I bought the deluxe edition can’t wait to play it and your video was spot on
Thanks for the review Bryan. I’m looking forward to playing this game. Hopefully they can patch the loading screens. Even Bloodborne had really long loading screens on its release. I know I will still enjoy this game.
Blood and truth style cutscenes is a big bummer. When will people figure out that VR is best with interaction? That plus the loading time make me less hyped for this for sure. I’ll probably wait on this one and hope the loading times get ironed (hoho) out.
I really don't understand that complaint, when have you ever talked to a person and walked away and looked through a magazine or whatever?
Tried the demo of Blood and truth, got some serious motion sickness, and the blurryness just made it unplayable for me. Is this game just as blurry? Only vr game i can play non stop for hours and hours is Fire Wall Zero Hour
@@SC0RPI0NFURY Really, I didn't think B&T was blurry, what headset are you using 1.0 or 2.0 and are you using the PS4 Pro?
ReverseFlash PSVR 2.0 and Ps4 pro. I have played most psvr games, pretty much all of them are blurry to some degree, only reason why Firewall Zero Hour, RE7 and games like Beatsaber feels less blurry is because of the short view distance/ map designs. When that is said though i have never ever felt the insane level of immersion that i get from these vr games compared to flatscreen games so i know VR will be huge on the next gen but i think at this point on this gen it’s just not there yet
VR games need to approach exposition like a one-take film. Keep you engaged and moving
Great review as always Brian! It helps temper some of the overly high expectations.
It's dissapointing that being a sarcastic billionaire with a garage full of super powered super tech, is the boring part of the game. It could have been an equally fun experience. Imagine if there was a mini game in the spirit of Job Simulator, where you tinker about your garage. Instead of just choosing the upgrades for iron man's suite, you could decide to take them off, throw them across the room, or make them shoot off as they fly around the room. So much potential for shenanigans!
...see this is why I shouldn't be alone with my thoughts as I wonder about what might be in a game and just wait for your reviews so I know what's actually in the game!!
It would’ve been nice to have the ability to play as Ironman on the ground as well in flight where you could land kick some ass then jump up and go into flight. I’ve got this preordered physical and hoping a day one patch might solve frame rate issues and maybe loading times.. great review as always
Agreed. I was wondering if that was possible ever sense I heard this game was a thing
You can land on the ground, there are tanks that attack you from the ground so you can power punch land on them if you want.
You cant walk around on the ground but really why would you want to as Iron man?
Goid score, loved the demo, and a huge iron man fan. Cannot wait.
Still sounds like a great game despite a few issues. Gonna have to check this one out. Thanks Bryan!
Seems like PS5 power and SSD should fix the performance and load times.
We need a AAA vr game that has the story telling like half life 2 or Alyx! Where you can walk around and mess around with stuff during the story
I completely disagree with you on the cutscenes. Honestly it would be really stupid if during a cutscene you could just walk away and just ignore it. If it's that unimportant, they wouldn't be in the game. Plus, the eye contact the other characters make with you would not work if you were moving all over the room.
Blood and truth did it perfectly and is easily the best VR game so far, by a mile. Actually, astro bot is close, but everything else is not
I don’t mind disagreeing. We’re all different and all want different things from our games. :D
Thanks for the review .
If we didnt have ghost of 🍣 or dreams vr I would pick this up day 1. Might wait for a sale
Can’t wait for Dreams VR, the main reason why I got a PSVR not long ago. July 22 I’ll be there
@@MrMOGHammer its amazing!
On the fence if I'm going to buy at launch or later when I have the time to play but looks amazing.
The fun thing with VR is that you don't really feel as much pressure to beat it. Just buy it, it won't go on sale anytime soon anyway.
@@shaid1111 I've got lots of vr games I just haven't finish as I don't have the time. Besides this is going to be a tight month as other priorities.
My original PSVR broke last November. Preordered this bundle. Get it tomorrow. I will play it after work. Can’t wait
I'm hyped up for this game! I enjoyed the demo so much.
I pre - ordered mine. Picking it up tomorrow.
Great review Bryan!
My walmart had it out 2 days early. But only in a headset bundle.
Great review Bryan, I look forward to suiting up and flying through the game!
Might wait for a sale. Great review, Bryan!
Negatives are acceptable (if I can deal with saints and sinners' load screens then this is fine). Already downloaded and ready to play on my ps4...once that damn timer reaches 0.
Saints and Sinners load times were long, but at least they were only before and after a level. Iron Man has twice as many, and they really disrupt the flow of the game. Curious to hear your thoughts on this! :D
Another great review! I’m sure I’m going to have fun playing this :)
Another great and honest review. Thank you! Downloading it now.
Great review, I kind of figured it would be exactly this. Good game, but not mind blowing or extremely polished. Will hold off on it for now.
Not too worried about load screens (Shadow Legend is still awesome) I’m just looking for a new VR experience with some fun factor. Too many dreary games lately, need something lighter in the headset.
Review score: “8.4”
Some people: “Oh, too bad- i’ll wait for a sale...”
Wut?
🤦
Yeah it is still a great score. I think people just focus on the negative and honestly the things he said were negative are not even deal breakers. I have played that demo to death so if it is more of that I am in 100%
I think the number at the end of the review is the least important thing (different reviewers will assign different scores even where their opinion of a game is broadly the same). I think the reason people are holding off is because of what was said in the body of the review. Long and frequent loading screen, boring story parts and some performance issues.
Looks like the game also gets a fair amount right and I'll probably pick it up at some point but this review didn't describe a must have to me despite the number at the end.
I’ve already bought it but I’ll be waiting for PS5 to play it to avoid the loud screens
Old School Gamer so you just wasted your money ?
@@-Old-School-Gamer yea sounds like you should have just waited. What is the point of buying day one just to not play it for months at best.
Looks awesome will be picking it up, thanks for the review guys!
Thanks for doing this review Bryan! Still not sure if this is the type of game for me, I have yet to play the demo (it is downloaded though). But then again, I'm not much into superheroes so maybe that's why I'm not so into this yet.
I can't wait I already pre ordered it
This was a great review!
The loading screen in the demo right after suiting up as you are falling through the sky had me axe this game from my list.
Thanks for the review man!
Good review. Thank you for being honest.
I'll wait for a sale on this one I think.
Its on sale right now
Thanks for the brilliant review.
The long load screens were definitely noticeable in the demo but hopefully the gameplay will make it worth it.
I'm looking forward to getting the full gane at some point.
Great Review. Thanks for your honesty.
Good review! It's about what I expect from that $40 price on a valuable IP. Familiar characters, acradey game loops. If it was at $60 I would expect a world to explore, living the T.S. life, and optimized polish. Were your load times coming off a PS4 Pro?
Was there any teases/reveals of a shared universe with the Spider-Man and/or Avengers game?
Im genuinely surprised as i thought this was a homerun, but opinions...im getting it anyway and from the demo i would recommend this as a must own in the VR catalog
Iron Man might not be a home run but it’s a lot of fun dude, enjoy it! :D
This is a must, surely the stuff of dreams for most, regardless of load times etc.i Think this will shift a few headsets.
T Minus 1 hour and 30 minutes until launch I pre ordered it and am so fucking hyped
Fingers crossed that this is ps5 comparible and the load times will be nil
I wasn't really expecting a AAA experience. The Playstation hardware really isn't powerful enough for that kind of polish. But I do wish I could fuck around in the story bits. That's what Alyx nailed, it didn't really mind if I was just playing. I dug that demo though, flying felt just sick.
Thanks Brian, I was on the fence with this one, the hype had me convincing myself it was a better game than I thought. It looks great, and I know the devs worked extremely hard on it but I'm passing. I hope it still gets the support it needs. The next VR game I'll buy is Pistol Whip! Cannot wait for that review from you
Can't wait to see this! Thanks Bryan.
Holy crap! I can’t wait!
once this is on the ps5 and those load times are gone it’ll be 5x better
I feel you completely. It’s nice that they’re giving us games and advancing. Hopefully the load times for VR games will reduce massively with ps5 and the games will mature brilliantly. Remember dude, VR is still in it’s infancy, the possibilities are excellent. Great review!
My biggest concern was if the whole game was against geomentic shape drones is there much enemy variety? Even humanoid style drones would be great.
Enemy variety wasn’t an issue for me. There are 6 basic (geometric) drones you fight against but I thought the boss fights more than make up for that.
@@WithoutParole thanks :) keep up the great work
Solid review I appreciate the honesty it was provided by playstation. I have faith it wouldn't compromise your review. Will be checking out the game after your review!
So far I dont mind the loading screens.. gives me a break to sit down
I had serious problems with the tracking during the basketball minigame
It's too bad it wasn't close to greatness, but at least they got most right. I'll pick it up on sale later.
The review I’ve been waiting for lessssgooooooo
It’s awesome that we have a full body tho! I hate when they have just hands with no arms, but here we get the full body! So cool just looking at yourself with an iron man suit on!
Man I LOVE Iron Man VR so far. I'm ecstatic really, because, how much more could you expect as far as innovative gameplay action that takes advantage of VR as a medium?! It's absolutely excellent!
Even in those VR-ish gimmicky moments where you interact with objects, there's still pressure because there's a time limit every time (like disarm a bomb, you have to get to the next one).
I haven't beaten it yet, but so far the story and narrative are excellent as well as its overall inspiration. I just love it. They came up with an absolutely terrific gameplay system that takes advantage of the medium and control method and that's what hooks me on VR.
It's hamstrung by the Unity engine. I know I can't shut up about it, but that's the truth of the issue here: the horrible framerate issues and load times show that people are out of their minds to make this kind of game with the Unity engine. It works for a ton of small-budget projects (Sairento, Superhot VR, Blasters of the Universe, etc.) but something like this? It's a total crack-smoking moment. Someone was out of his mind to think Unity was a good idea. Hopefully PS5 helps out the horrible technical issues.
Can't wait to see the next PSVR on the PS5.
Nice review. If there's a physical version, I'll buy it. If not, I'll wait for a considerable discount on the digital one.
I tried the demo, but the gameplay just didnt really grab me the way I had hoped it would. Then again, I've never really been an iron man/ comic book fan. Nice honest review as always Bryan
Awesone review as always. l'll just keep myself occupied with over 40 VR games in my library(Showing off lol jk but not really) until the patch comes out. 😂
P.S. I'm doubling down on VR games because I'm pushing for it's future success. The more VR games we buy, the more successful it becomes.
Long frequent load screens are a bummer in vr especially when playing standing up but this game looks great, have it installed and cant wait to dig into this tonight after work.
@Icarus Kid did you get to the point where you became very good at flying and fighting as Ironman? Because that is where the game shines and really becomes an amazing unique experience. Not from simply just flying point to point.
@Icarus Kid well I would have to dissagree. It looked 3D VR to me... the background enviromnents like in the city felt lifeless in the sense that theres no humans or traffic and stuff moving around. But everything certainly looked and felt 3D to me
@Icarus Kid Ive never hears of Kitchen, or ocean descent and I dont see either on the psn store.
I really enjoyed astro bot, didnt really get into moss, havent yet olayed vacation simulator but I didn't get that into job simulator. Res evil is great I prefer usually to play games that I can use my hands to interact with the game.
For me the best psvr game is walking dead saints and sinners though not without some issues.
I also think squadrons is an amazing vr game/experience.
@Icarus Kid I googled ocean descent and realized what that was. Not sure if I ever played kitchen.
I did play ocean descent when I first got the system. It was cool and fun enough mostly just for a new to vr experience. Id strongly dissagree calling it a holy grail of psvr and a must have at this point in the vr library. To me it was very forgettable as I had completely forgotten about it lol
This is gonna be Great!!!
Okay I'm confused but excited
always gotta thank Bryan
I needed move controllers so got the Iron Man VR bundle and the game itself works out roughly half price so I'm happy enough with it's flaws.
Should I get it myself tomorrow
I'm playing right now and loving it. One thing that I do not understand watching this video is the framerate. Playing on base PS4 the frame rate is pretty bad most of the time (for a VR title), but watching this video it seems smooth as butter. I suppose this is recorded in a PS4 PRO. Is really that smooth inside the headset in PS4 PRO? In my case is perhaps the wort performing game I have played on PSVR (alongside Borderlands 2 VR). Despite this, the game is awesome and I'm enjoying it a lot.
It is buttery smooth on a Pro in what I’ve played so far. I’ve noticed a dropped frame here and there, usually in heavy scenes when a lot of enemies, particles, and effects are in play, but the game remains smooth 98% of the time for me.
Does this unlock at midnight (or 10pm in my case) as the countdown suggests? Or is it one of those afternoon appearances on the store?
Midnight
Whatever your countdown timer says should be accurate. Have fun! :D
Thanks for the straight up honest review! I don't want people to get it wrong, because the game is incredible and worthy of purchase, but it takes a certain kind of player. I really have problems with games that use teleportation.
But you do understand it is not the main gameplay mechanic, right?
Im gonna wait for a sale or something or ask somebody to get it for me not gonna spend much on it.
As allways thnx for the honest revieuw guys keep up the good work!
Great review, thanks. It almost sounds like they should have waited for the power of PS5 before launching this game; I assume this would have helped to speed-up those load screens.
Great job, thanks
I only got the Iron Man bundle to get the move controllers to be able to play Saints and Sinners! But I’m sure there’s enough decent segments to justify a play session.
It is a shame however that PSVR still lacks a proper stream of fully fledged quality VR games and not just ‘experiences’ or Tech demo’s.
The only proper AAA quality VR games I could list would be -
Astro Bot
Resident Evil 7
Saints and Sinners
Paper Beasts
A lot of other games ultimately feel like short VR experiences.
It’s sad because those of us that love VR are dying for more.
Thanks! I think I'll wait until it hits $25 for the deluxe. Maybe black Friday.
so far BB is gonna have base physical for $20
cant wait for tomorrow:)
Yo yo. I just got my VR fixed and then this comes out 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Great review -- appreciate it! Between this and IGN's review I'm starting to second-guess getting this right way since my backlog is kind of huge.
I still haven't gotten very far in Megaton Rainfall either.
I appreciate the reference to Blood & Truth prolonged lack of interactivity. I'm wondering, though, how you'd contrast that with Farpoint, for example. To me, Farpoint just had the better story, especially for how it foiled the gameplay so well to create the experience that it did.
It is exactly like Farpoint, Blood and Truth, Archangel, Arkham VR, etc: when the story plays you can look around but not shoot or alter the behavior of those talking. Which has been the norm for VR games that present the story this way, so it is silly some players are reacting like it is different.
(Also, take IGN VR reviews with a grain of salt. They tend to think 2d gameplay instead of VR experience).
@@MegaRayland It's also kind of normal for non-VR games too, right? I mean Half-Life 2 or other FPS games, maybe you can move around during conversations sometimes. The real problem with VR is that they can't give a traditionally cinematic cutscene (except for some of those flat-screen moments). So yeah I don't know why someone would expect it to be any different here.
I was thinking B&T vs Farpoint because I thought Farpoint had a way more enjoyable story to watch to break up the gameplay overall.
I had a feeling they wasn't gonna nail(or even attempt too!)being tony stark,..teleportation!???😮😮smh
None of my GameStop’s had any copies of Iron man. So I went to Best Buy and they had a million. They also had dreams physical as well. . Both $40
Now I want Dr. Strange VR.....
Is the hardest difficulty frustrating or is it well manageable
It's very manageable. The game is really easy on the Normal difficulty, so Hard might actually be the way to go.
I am so excited 😁
Game is on its way. I am Iron Man.
This game feels great, but the loading screens are painful. Some of the graphics also feel decidedly last generation - character and enemy models in particular, and quite flat lighting. Compare to something like London Heist where the models are amazing and deficiencies covered up by great lighting and it’s obvious. The sheer amount of stuff being flung around on screen in VR is great though, so there’s the trade off. What should be noted is that considering how fast you’re moving and the different orientations you find yourself in, you never feel motion sick. That for me is the sign of a really well designed VR game. It’s no Marvel’s Spider-Man, but it is, given the tech available, an excellent VR game. I wonder if it will get a PS5 patch to reduce loading and improve graphical fidelity?
Patch for load times incoming..i hope. Also, would an SSD in the PS4 Pro help reduce the load times?
hey bryan, do you review any flat(non-psvr) games? If and when you do, you're the only one I will trust on whether a game is worth it or not. Also I hear you're a fellow masshole like myself.
Reviewing PSVR games is a full time job, so that’s it for now! And I’m a total Masshole (I drive like one too...) :D
@@WithoutParole well I genuinely enjoy and appreciate the hard work and honesty you put into your channel's content and reviews bryan. Happy fourth.
I want this game so bad!
Why are all the characters bent over the whole time? Who did the animations?
Do u only fight robots ? Are there surprise villians ? Ultimo, Mandarin etc. ?
It's... mostly robots. The last few fights mix things up but 90% of the game is drones. That said, I liked learning the best strategies on how to take each type down. :D
Wait what!!! A review!! The game hasn’t even released yet!!
He got a early copy man lol
