She was 14!? When I first watched this, I thought the singer was in her 20s. Kid's got a good voice. (Though, that would put her at 21/22 now, so kid might not be an accurate label)
Fun fact: According to Jeff Williams, Summer's gravestone in the "Red" Trailer originally had no story significance, as when he questioned Monty Oum about who was in the grave, Monty replied, "I don't know. We just thought it would be cool if she visited a grave". Jeff went on to ask, "What if it's her mom?" to which Monty answered, "That's cool".
9 years later, still can't find anyone who does 3D anime animation fights with the same style monty had. It's fluid, unique and fast-paced which not a lot of 3D animators can emulate. Lots of 3D animations tend to have a sluggish fighting style.
The fight choreography also has great synergy with John and Casey Lee Williams' music. It's a pairing that makes you wish you could play it as a video game but then realize that it would need to be slowed down for a video game
If you are new to RWBY please STOP reading the comments right NOW! There are people here who would rejoice in spoiling your experience. Never read a RWBY comment section until you are completely caught-up with the show.
The RWBY story is full of cliches from anime and western drama shows. There's nothing to really spoil that can't have been predicted after a couple episodes.
after watching this for the 50th time, I just realized. I always thought that ruby fought grimm in this trailer so that she could show off her skills in a big group or whatever, but I just remembered that grimm are attracted to negative thoughts, and ruby, after walking home from her mother's grave, most be feeling really negative, right? So the grimm were attracted to that, and they attacked her... I never thought about it til now. Damn. Anyone else?
still gives me chills, cant believe Monty animated this trailer on his own, makes you wonder where the show would be if he was still at the helm, truly brilliant man.
DimDamDuweeh Monty Oum was the creator of RWBY and animation choreographer for it as well as for Red vs. Blue. He was a massively creative man, to the point that I once pointed out his relationship with his muse must have been like unto the friendship of Nora Valkyrie and Ren (who was voiced by Monty, so I really do suspect this is true). You can find some of his other work by looking up Haloid and the Dead Fantasy series.
Yep, looking back on something so absolutely stunningly unique that I HAD to know what it was and consume every second of it in any form or way it existed. And I did till season 5 I think... then I kind of lost track, because they moved it from RUclips. I still have the steelbook limited edition of S1 till S3 and count them as one of my most cherished collectables. This trailer is absolute pure perfection and I keep revisiting it over and over.
I wanna see Ruby's gunsmithing talents in action which she also learned from Qrow, as he made his own weapon inspired by the Grim Reaper. One should remember that she made Crescent Rose.
@@bubbledog12 There would still be at least some weight, even if someone is stronger than before, the weight and momentum would still play a big factor in how it's used. Whereas now, it has no weight and just seems like some light plastic that she just uses like a sword. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
Yeah back when Ruby's entire fighting style was based around using momentum and recoil supported by her speed, she'd twist and spin her body around like in this trailer making use of those aspects to add force to her swings . Like I get that Monty's fighting style was time-intensive to animate but they couldn't at least keep the recoil aspect...
@dfggfd gfdgfd Said the guy so butthurt he's lurking in the comments section of a years-old trailer video to defend the show it eventually became from people criticizing it and insulting everyone who doesn't feel the same way.
@@MHArcadia All i heard of the ''criticizing'' that the people did with this show is them crying about how the show became bad after Volume 3, Answers to Questions that they are not satisfied with, and the List of all the whining that they define as''criticizing'' goes on and on and in my opinion the real butthurt people are the ones that are mad about people not agreeing to their so called''criticizing'' and still want to see the show
More than a decade later, this kind of animation would still be more than enough. There was a vision, but I'm not confident that anyone currently holding the IP could ever take us where it was meant to go.
The show has fallen to mediocre writing and the fights are just simply not what they were all cuz Monty died it really is a waste cuz this had huge potential.
And 9+ years of technology. Not to mention 9+ years of the animators learning to walk in high heels - Lol! (Yes, they did practice walking in high heels, because male animators would have no idea how women walk in them)
+Joseph Williams Just goes to show how talented she really is and how well she's mastered her weapon and fighting style, as well as the use of her Semblance.
In the current context of the show where complexity seems to be a detriment to the quality, it's amazing to see how superior this original short it. It's simplicity makes it rise above most everything else in quality.
Not even a line of dialogue was said, yet there was so much emotion told exclusively through the visuals and the music. Imagine if RWBY was a story that was only told through visuals? That would've been unique, interesting, and they wouldn't have had to spend time writing something that would potentially be mediocre. All they'd need to do is write events and how characters fight together and interact physically rather than write dialogue or a complex plot. Oh, and the music would've had to be incredible too, and obviously that was shown in these shorts.
I like how Ruby's character turned out, but it would have been so awesome to see the stark contrast between her naive, innocent personality, and the deadly, visceral way she fought. She still fights in a cool way, but from a tone perspective, it doesn't have that edge to it that this has.
I fully agree. Where her character has gone makes complete sense but that contrast was one of the things that originally drew me to her character. It was the same for Blake; her seemingly reserved personality seemed so far away from her dynamic whirlwind of damage fighting style. Words cannot express how happy I am that they finally got a rig for Gambol Shroud's Kusarigama mode in the new animating program.
THIS. THIS EXACTLY. I always thought she has this deep dark flare and passion in her somewhere. But Volume 5 did no justice, whatsoever with her! As a former Ruby bias of the show, it's ridiculous how she still hasn't a proper self-improvement arc. It's like Rooster Teeth just jammed her character developpement in one and call it a day. I'm still waiting for THIS Ruby peak, till this day. And no, new costumes and quests won't cut it!
They're still a joke yes the designs have changed and gotten better but they never were never a true danger mean just look how ruby handles them effortlessly in this.
But as you can see, the fights in the newer seasons just aren't what we see in the trailers... They were definitely handled by other people. Monty didn't animate those.
It wasn't monty. It's the fact that they're working on a schedule and budget. There are plenty of good animators at RT, they're just hamstrung by the fact they gotta put out 12 weekly episodes every year. Something has to give (look at the reload animation in Yellow, for example).
If you listen to Guns fire, the slower one can have this sound. Is the sound of the action being slam to the back, then slam back forward to sent the next round off.
Wow...five years, and this trailer still is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. We really lost a god of choreography halfway between then and now.
In light of the recent tragic news of Monty's passing, let's take solace in the world he created and shared with us. A world that sprung from his ever creative and unique mind. He was humble by nature, expressive in his work and a pretty nifty dancer on top of that (bonus points!). Can't put into words just how big a loss he is to the RT community who're effectively one big family, staff and fans alike. Dance your way into whatever awaits you outside this plane of existence you awesome human being. You'll be missed buddy.
John Scholl Thanks bud. Just doesn't feel real. Someone as hardworking and down to earth as Monty....you'd never think it possible. Wait seriously?! Never knew he had that effect on people! XD. Then again with Gav, nothing should surprise me! It's great to have those moments to think of at a time like this though. Makes you appreciate the guy a lot more.
I discovered RWBY yesterday after reading a random comment on another video that I found intriguing enough to check it out. Yesterday I binged watched the entire thing, by the time I got to the last episode earlier today I learned that the creator had also passed away yesterday. It's so sad and my thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues and his fans. As a brand new fan, I find it kind of eerie and surreal and there are no words that can properly express how tragic this is. RIP Monty.
That is her semblance. The hyperspeed comes from the bullets she is using and that the trailer scene show what her potential can be later in the show. It has never changed lol
I love how the blood effects are replaced with rose pedals, its such a good design choice and how to blade has a little POP every time it impacts!! Its just peak animation. Thank you monty!
Can't believe RWBY is gone now. Thanks for everything Monty you changed my life with this series in ways you couldn't comprehend. Sorry your show had to end like this.
@@SushiVolcano I wouldn't count on it. Producing a single season of an animated series costs a lot of money, about ≥$10 to 15 million on average, and RoosterTeeth produced RWBY with a fifth of that budget by underpaying their animation department below industry standard and having them work long hours without overtime pay. They were cutting every possible corner they could, outside of having an ai write the scripts, and Barbara herself admitted that RWBY hasn't been profitable for years. I honestly doubt that Viz, a publishing and distribution company, will put out the money to an animation production company to make Volume 10 in the first that will only give them debt in return by RT's own admission.
@@SushiVolcano This is only a rumor so take it with a massive grain of salt, but it's believed that the reason Viz Media bought RWBY isn't because they were the highest bidder but because they were the only ones that showed up or stuck around after negotiations. I wouldn't be surprised if RoosterTeeth tried contacting companies with streaming services that make, or at least fund, their own original animated series and they've licensed their IP to like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and Crunchyroll. I do know they burned a bridge with Crunchyroll when the company helped fund Volume 9's production in exchange for a year of exclusive streaming rights. Unfortunately, due to RWBY not being profitable for years, Crunchyroll lost money on that venture. They continued the contract until the year was up and pulled the series from their service. To put this in perspective, High Guardian Spice is still on Crunchyroll while RWBY was pulled. At the end of the day, the goal was to give RWBY a home, and it got one. Just not an ideal one.
Actually, Brandon has a point even without the "just wait" part. Half of her teammates are unavailable, Weiss and Yang, and Blake is MIA, so Ruby has to fight extremely hard because she is pretty much alone
The show on the other hand... It started off as decent milk, then aged horribly, then the writers tried to add fine wine into the spoiled milk to fix it but the wine was actually off-brand boxed wine from 7/11.
@@snakeslife-uroborodjinn790 That is like, the most accurate thing I’ve ever seen written in a youtube comment or any other place. Only thing I could say was the milk was bought a day before expiration from the family dollar right next to the 7/11
This piece of art right here was one of the core reasons why I wanted to become an animator. And eventually I did (kinda). I'm working as a full time 3D artist, not on characters, but still. It tore my heart to see it go downhill, crash was not unexpected, but it still hurts :(
I'd like to mention something that I feel goes well here. Yes, the fights have decreased in quality since Monty's death. No, that doesn't mean they're garbage. No, they'll never be as good as Monty's. No, that doesn't mean they're not trying. Monty was a genius in many rights, and I think everyone working on RWBY knew that and worked it into their plans for the show. No one could have prepared for the possibility of Monty's death, and when that did happen, they fought on. Have you ever seen a show still be this successful even after such a core part of the creation process is gone? Frankly, it's symbolic in the end. Monty, through this show and his death, ended up giving us the perfect example of his philosophy of "Never stop moving forward." Rooster Teeth could have just as easily dropped this series altogether, but they didn't. And no matter how it's changed, no matter how true it is to Monty's original vision, I think he, or anyone really, would be proud of how RWBY rose from the ashes.
what is that supposed to mean? if monty was still here today I doubt we would “hate” or even be mad with how RWBY is now, it’s obvious RWBY will never be the same that monty is gone, that does not equal the fact RWBY is dead or dying, RT can still make this a masterpiece of a show, and they’re trying their best to
@splice knight, much as I enjoyed Shane's animation, he was definitely not in the best of places when he quit RT, even to the point of bringing in Monty's wife, who was no doubt in even more pain than he was
Video published on November 7, 2012. Now today was November 7th, 2016. Its been 4 years since this trailer comes out! Happy Birthday to Ruby! *Edit: Commented before the 2nd season of RWBY Chibi. Ruby's actual birthday is on Halloween.
the red trailer was published on the 95th anniversary of the October Revolution, if you don't know about the October Revolution, it saw the Russian Provisional Government overthrown by Bolsheviks led by Vladimir Lenin.
not to mention this video was uploaded before the 2012 US Presidential Elections, before Black Ops II came out and at the same time as Halo 4 coming out!
10 years later I’m still reviewing the trailer and admire the genius of Monty, the title is beautiful in its combat in the pathos of battles that the author put into it, continue the story, let the fans taste the full spectrum of the beauty of Monty and his vision
@@CelestialsStorm the writing has always been meh to be honest. its the fight scenes that made rwby such a classic. now the fights are terrible compared to the first 3 seasons. the feel like he said is just not there anymore. rip monty
Everything would be different if Monty hadn't died. He was irreplaceable, a master of his craft in 3d animated fight scenes. He would have taught so many more people, probably even caused a transformation.
Her problem is that folded 50 cal run and gun mode doesn't mesh with choreographed swordplay/Kung Fu. It is either super effective (she's super mobile, tumbles around, and can hit hard from a distance... Indiana Jones vs swordsman...) or blasts don't do anything against aura. Scythe melee mode is fine against Grimm (like the wolves or even a nevermore), but it's also in this strange region of being either overpowered (Ruby speed, crazy moment of inertia, unrealistically sharp) or too unwieldy to be workable against people (see fight against monk dude). Ultimate unfolded mode: She's a blender. Throw in some meat, a few eggs, and a cell phone. How long would a fight last? Contrast this with Yang and Blake, who have gotten lots of good fights. Yang has her kickboxing, shotgun gloves, berserker semblance, and tendency to be used as a human projectile for a finishing move (RWBY strategy is to get her as damaged as possible then throw her at the enemy). Blake has her overall team utility, high mobility, and afterimage, which allows her to make teh playz.
So I have uhh, just watched all 8 seasons and am very late to the party, hello. Is it just me or is Ruby more OP in this one trailer than she's ever been in the 8 seasons so far
Yes. Though to be fair Monty made this trailer solely on his own as a pitch to RT, so he sort of made her as OP and badass as he could. I believe he commented after saying “this is the level Ruby could reach at the end of the show” or something along those lines.
Yeah, this trailer was specifically created for two things: 1) to showcase Crescent Rose 2) as a sale-pitch. This level of mastery is akin to Qrow's, a huntsman so legendary and deadly that Mercury wouldn't face him in a direct fight.
improved and unique because Monty's style is a rare find. That's why I don't mind the animation's level of mastery dropping in terms of the fights in the volumes since his death because it's hard to be at the same level as someone like Monty who was always looking to improve and working
It would be near enough the same. He had notes on everything for a large number if potential volumes. Miles and Kerry follow the notes as best as they can when writing
Agreed. Monty is a genius in his own right, but I still highly respect team CRWBY for their efforts. The idea is, is that Monty was a genius in a small classroom. There isn't many that can imitate him, so they have to make do with their own knowledge and experience.
@@oracle9_tann472She fought in a similar style while Monty was animating her but noticeably toned down from this. She doesn't go reaping hordes of monsters like so much wheat in the show. I suspect they didn't start nailing down the details for the first season until after this trailer was made. And even then, the first few episodes have a bunch of characterization that is never followed up on, unless you count RWBY Chibi I guess.
@@SnakebitSTI that's true, I more-so ment the use of the weapon and its weight, but I see your point. My guess is similar to yours, that Monty just animated smth he thought was cool but didn't give my thought too for the larger show, just what he'd have fun animating.
@@oracle9_tann472 RWBY was just slice of life anime before Monty passed on leaving the show with dark undertones. Monty couldn't write a story, but his animation techniques haven't been replicated after a decade of his passing. He was a genius, not in story telling but in fight choreography. 3d animation hasn't even come close to this since then.
Five years ago today, something amazing happened. RWBY was first introduced to the world. It had rough beginnings, but people very quickly came to love it. It came into this world in a difficult time, when every media platform was focused on the U.S. Presidential Election. Soon, as politics in the media were becoming scarce, Rooster Teeth released the first episode of RWBY. People went crazy over it. Even so, the following was small. Luckily, fans introduced it to their friends, and them their friends. RWBY was becoming more popular. Come January 22, 2015. During a routine medical procedure, Monty Oum, the creator of the show, fell into a coma until February 1, where he passed away peacefully. Come November 7, 2017, we are on volume 5, the fandom is bigger than ever, and RWBY has become known worldwide. Brought up by Monty Oum, and continued in memory of him, RWBY continues to grow. We have had an amazing run, and may it continue to be amazing until the end.
As I watch these trailers again, it makes me feel even more remorse over Monty's untimely passing. He was supposed to go in for a regular allergy shot, but it went horribly wrong... There was so much work from him we had yet to see, so many ideas he had, and now we never will. He was far too young and talented to be taken away.
+Arnel “R.J” Andrada oh my god??? I don't think a single person cares about someone's "time". seriously. his death was obviously a horrible accident. not everything is about "fate". just shut up
This is too cruel. I wish Monty was alive, so he could continue to make masterpieces like this. These trailers will always be in my heart as one of the best animations I've ever seen. I was here since day 1 and I'll always come back to see them. Rest in peace Monty, you were amazing. :'(
Im not here after. I came here mid video right before the part where he cal you out for leaving mid video to watch it, to see this trailer for the first time. Denise Newberry I just started watching this series. I have no idea what it's about and haven't even watched the first full minute and I've already figured that out
I honestly don't care about the new animation if the choreography is garbage. I could watch 20 seasons with this animation if the choreography stayed this good
@@flag4567 There's actually this one choreography prodigy Monty worked with, till the guy left after volume 2. Just search up "Project Legendary" to see what J mean.
I remember watching this with my friends for the first time, and then along with the other trailers. We joked around saying "Can't wait for this GAME to come out!" and "RWBY needs a fighting game!" Then EVO 2017 announced RWBY characters for BlazBlue Cross Tag. Finally got to play it 2018, and sure enough Ruby became my anchor character. We did it, Monty. WE DID IT.
Didn't Monty at some point say that he didn't want Ruby to be this strong right from the start of the show and that this trailer showed more what she could turn into?
The fights in the show now are different but that doesn’t make them bad. The only thing that bothers me is that Ruby’s Crescent Rose doesn’t seem to be heavy anymore and have that weight to it that made it seem to big to weld. She use to use the force of her gunshots to swing that thing around, it was such a genuine technique. Now she just twirls it around without the cool gunshot effects and she doesn’t seem to even struggle holding what’s supposed to be this giant weapon bigger than her, not to mention it seems smaller and less threatening looking in the new animation. But besides that’s and then Weiss nerf, I love the show still and I hope they only continue to grow and can fix these minor issues.
Characters teleporting, standing around and not attacking, stopping the rythem, doing odd poses, not using the fight scenes as a form of storytelling, having floaty or janky motion from the characters, or forgetting how to fight, and being generally inconsistent are all signs of bad fight scenes. And if your show starts to detract from what made the original fight scenes so original and intuitive then it's enough to lower the quality of them. And even if monty is gone that really isnt an excuse. Animators are usually meant to learn and train in the style of their animation studio and there are animators, even at Roosterteeth, who have been able to replicate Montys style.
o o it’s just a show and the writers do make mistakes but there’s no need to bash a show with vibrant characters. But at the end of the day, it’s everyone’s own opinion.
@@chaasadfearing To be fair... The show is just bad. The rhythm is gone, the coreography is gone, the weight of the movements is gone and the overall writing of the fight scenes is just amateur level (let's not talk about the ending of the volume 5(?) with the people just standing around in the school hall or so)
@@oo-bl5kx I believe there was another who could animate in the same style as Monty, however he resigned a bit after Monty passed as he saw what the writers were doing to RWBY. And since Roosterteeth's storyboard literally had a black screen with 'Monty's animation', it isn't the studio's animation style, it was *his* animation style I still agree with you though.
I think that the RWBY trailers might be the best of the entire series. You can tell that Monty put his heart into them. Without him the rest of the show suffered.
Yes but he was around until what, season 3-4? He wanted this to be his attempt at more than a good fight scene, and an actual story. Which up until his pasing I would argue was great
@@deaxiom3542Actually he died at the start of Vol3 production. They still had his apprentice Shane Newville at the time so fights were almost as good in V3, but then they lost him too. Honestly I know how mean this sounds, but continuing RWBY was probably a mistake. It’s like finding you only have half the sauce you need to make a pizza, but rather than make a smaller pizza they just decided to continue without sauce at all. Without Monty’s style and choreography and love of stupid weapons and martial arts all we’re left with is a really standard end of the world plot and four main characters who are so completely unexceptional that the writers themselves have admitted to wishing they hadn’t named the show after them.
Does it bother anyone else that this trailer is still visually better than the Ruby trailer for Volume 4? It's not a matter of the animation of the fights, the current animation is great. Its the creativity. The fights went from the most entertaining well flowing fights in animation i've ever seen to...just basic slashing and hacking. I didn't think Monty took the creativity of the show as well when he died.
I agree fully that the trailer's fight animation was absolute garbage compared to this. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the fight sequences outside of the trailer. For instance, I found Qrow vs. Tyrian to be quite impressive.
The way that monty animated fight scenes is that instead of just hacking and slashing, he would have the characters move as if they were dancing. a good point of this is when ruby catches herself on her scythe. notice how when the baywolf charges her she dodges by kicking out her feet then standing up. the way that miles and shawcross choreographs fight scenes is by having more basic sword and other weapon fighting with a dash of the dancing flow that monty used instead of the dancing flow that was going on all the time 24/7 when monty was directing. neither are bad, just montys way of choreographing fight scenes appeal more to the RWBY audience while the shawcross and luna way is more appealing to people who are just joing the series.
I could not agree more. Monty's fight choreography was always so free flowing and each character's distinct style can be seen in the way they fought and used their weapons. Now each character seems like a generic weapon user, and Ruby's overreliance on the gun form of her scythe drove me a little crazy because she didn't look or fight anything like she does in this trailer. I give the RWBY team a lot of credit, but dang I miss Monty's flair when it came to fight scenes and his amazing sense of rhythm.
This is the best trailer I have ever seen. I am now 20 years old and have not seen better trailer then this. It is so simple and yet complex and full of action, sad, happy, exciting and yet coming. still gives me chills, cant believe Monty animated this trailer on his own, makes you wonder where the show would be if he was still at the helm, truly brilliant man.
Honestly. 2:01 is just a tiny snippet of what made this trailer so good, but Monty went above and beyond to make every scene so amazing.
god ikr, i keep coming back for the fight scene
I love this trailer and for me, its what could've been if the show had better writers and if Monty was still with us

Rest in peace Monty, we all love you
This is basically the beginning of the reason why I loved Monty so much
The Half Macaab Gaming The beginning of mine was Dead Fantasy.
Mine was Red Vs. Blue with the whole warthog scene in season 8 along with Haloid.
Austin Bailey sorry for asking but who is Monty?
DimDamDuweeh Monty Oum was the creator of RWBY and animation choreographer for it as well as for Red vs. Blue. He was a massively creative man, to the point that I once pointed out his relationship with his muse must have been like unto the friendship of Nora Valkyrie and Ren (who was voiced by Monty, so I really do suspect this is true).
You can find some of his other work by looking up Haloid and the Dead Fantasy series.
What a cool animation! Someone should make a show out of this!

Yep, looking back on something so absolutely stunningly unique that I HAD to know what it was and consume every second of it in any form or way it existed.
And I did till season 5 I think... then I kind of lost track, because they moved it from RUclips.

Great example of how good choreography can carry a scene
They literally just stand and stare during important parts when they should be running or fighting. 😞
@@SpacenoidCentral that's pretty much what Monty was doing with his Dead Fantasy series before getting hired by Rooster Teeth.

Because this is art.

I like how Ruby's character turned out, but it would have been so awesome to see the stark contrast between her naive, innocent personality, and the deadly, visceral way she fought. She still fights in a cool way, but from a tone perspective, it doesn't have that edge to it that this has.
Yeah that’s why she my favorite character in the series 😍😍😍😍🌹🌹🌹
But as you can see, the fights in the newer seasons just aren't what we see in the trailers... They were definitely handled by other people. Monty didn't animate those.
monty only planned all the plot beforehand, season 3 was entirely handed by other people exept for a specific fight scene between torchwick and ruby.
It wasn't monty. It's the fact that they're working on a schedule and budget. There are plenty of good animators at RT, they're just hamstrung by the fact they gotta put out 12 weekly episodes every year. Something has to give (look at the reload animation in Yellow, for example).

Sorry your show had to end like this.
You've probably heard the news, but...
Not quite yet.
Viz Media picked up RWBY and they're planning on continuing it. Will probably have to wait a little extra for the next volume, though.
@@Midnight-Starfish Oh, I didn't know about all that. In that case, why did Viz Media bother acquiring RWBY, then?
This is actually the best Rubys ever fought. I don't think she ever gets as intense in any other fights.

Robert Laird You gave me chills bro.
Well, much as I would like to agree, those who were closest to Monty vehemently disagree. Shane Newville for example.
what is that supposed to mean? if monty was still here today I doubt we would “hate” or even be mad with how RWBY is now, it’s obvious RWBY will never be the same that monty is gone, that does not equal the fact RWBY is dead or dying, RT can still make this a masterpiece of a show, and they’re trying their best to
*he*
@splice knight, much as I enjoyed Shane's animation, he was definitely not in the best of places when he quit RT, even to the point of bringing in Monty's wife, who was no doubt in even more pain than he was

Yes
Everything would be different if Monty hadn't died. He was irreplaceable, a master of his craft in 3d animated fight scenes. He would have taught so many more people, probably even caused a transformation.
OP thinks he knows what he's talking about.
Monty was a genius. Its rare to see fight scenes that are as awesome as fast past and as engaging as his works
I just realized after just rewatching this, Ruby has yet to have a major lengthy fight of her own in the show so far.
+Tedulous She might though, with Mercury (or is it really him?)
+Nicole Mark i was hopping she taught cinder.
Maybe with the events in episode 9 of volume 3 we will get to see Ruby do this again
+Anthony Rodriguez Not with the quality of this animation, not yet anyways.

Just passing by..... Remembering the good old days
Yeah, this trailer was specifically created for two things:
1) to showcase Crescent Rose
2) as a sale-pitch.
This level of mastery is akin to Qrow's, a huntsman so legendary and deadly that Mercury wouldn't face him in a direct fight.
If Monty is still alive, who knows how badass the fighting scenes would have been.
improved and unique because Monty's style is a rare find. That's why I don't mind the animation's level of mastery dropping in terms of the fights in the volumes since his death because it's hard to be at the same level as someone like Monty who was always looking to improve and working
GlacialRuin actually there is an animator (who quit) who's style was almost exactly like Monty's
GlacialRuin He has a RUclips channel Dilongoo I think?
It would be near enough the same. He had notes on everything for a large number if potential volumes. Miles and Kerry follow the notes as best as they can when writing
Agreed. Monty is a genius in his own right, but I still highly respect team CRWBY for their efforts. The idea is, is that Monty was a genius in a small classroom. There isn't many that can imitate him, so they have to make do with their own knowledge and experience.
If she actually fought like this in the series, she would be way more successful
well monty made this trailer so
She does for the first three seasons then Monty sadly passed away and any semblance of quality in the show went away.
I have came back here as last goodbye to this series. For better or for worse RT will end and with it RWBY will end. May mounty rest in peace.
Back when using the recoil was integral to the fighting style and more than just a neat trick to pull off to surprise opponents.
Five years ago today, something amazing happened. RWBY was first introduced to the world. It had rough beginnings, but people very quickly came to love it. It came into this world in a difficult time, when every media platform was focused on the U.S. Presidential Election. +Arnel “R.J” Andrada oh my god??? I don't think a single person cares about someone's "time". seriously. his death was obviously a horrible accident. not everything is about "fate". just shut up
Imagine if he got a major studio behind him...
This goes to show...our time could come in a second or 80 years from now.
This is too cruel. I wish Monty was alive, so he could continue to make masterpieces like this. These trailers will always be in my heart as one of the best animations I've ever seen. I was here since day 1 and I'll always come back to see them. Rest in peace Monty, you were amazing. :'(
Can you believe its been 8 years, nearly a decade since this trailer came out.
7 years for exactl
Old times...
Puleva wargamer Welcome to the Rwby Fandom! I honestly hope you enjoy your journey throughout the series!
7 years and i still think that is little red riding hood in fairy tales
Jesus
Watching this again made me remember how much I used to love RWBY.
Sadness ahead
Grief ahead
me in 2017 :(
How did this show become so hollow?
@@Parker_Lot A whole lot of the creators not actually knowing what they were doing beyond the most basic level.
Who's here after the hbomb video?
Im not here after. I came here mid video right before the part where he cal you out for leaving mid video to watch it, to see this trailer for the first time. The choreography and ingenuity is actually v dope and I wish the show wasnt as much of a disappointment as everyone says it is cuz Id love to see more of this
Ayyyyyyyyy
I can definitely recommend you start the show, just not sure if its worth finishing.
I miss the hype I had for this show. I've been probably 100, maybe 200, of this video's views. I was so pumped for RWBY.
Lmfao me
I cant believe this came out 12 years ago. Where did the time go? As a now 24 year old I would have been 12? Crazy
I just realized that the words in the song describes the characters and I feel like an idiot. *face palm
Denise Newberry I just started watching this series.
I have no idea what it's about and haven't even watched the first full minute and I've already figured that out
same for me
It took me a while to figure that out XD
I honestly don't care about the new animation if the choreography is garbage. I could watch 20 seasons with this animation if the choreography stayed this good
With his talent of fitting it in with every beat from the music.
His talent is missed.
@@flag4567 There's actually this one choreography prodigy Monty worked with, till the guy left after volume 2. Just search up "Project Legendary" to see what J mean.
@@sentientcumsock7365 It's not trash. Trash is a strong word. The battle animations aren't the same, that's for sure, but the story is still amazing
@@bluejacket4429 Also, leave ? He didn't leave. 😢
Well opinions sure can be different because this last episode had my favourite fight in the series.
had to come back after Hbomberguy reminded me how good this is
I had to come back after the volume 9 finale so many callbacks to this
I remember watching this with my friends for the first time, and then along with the other trailers. We joked around saying "Can't wait for this GAME to come out!" and "RWBY needs a fighting game!"
Then EVO 2017 announced RWBY characters for BlazBlue Cross Tag.
Finally got to play it 2018, and sure enough Ruby became my anchor character.
We did it, Monty.
WE DID IT.
Even better news, RWBY: Grimm Eclipse is a game, and they're currently working on RWBY: Arrowfell!!
Then 5 years later... Ruby got nerfed every volume.
Didn't Monty at some point say that he didn't want Ruby to be this strong right from the start of the show and that this trailer showed more what she could turn into?
No, kidding after watching volume 5.
Kitsune Gaming Really? Huh.
Silent Noir She’s making a comeback. Slowly but surely.
The Red trailer is the non-canon one. It was really more a proof of concept than an actual trailer for the show.
I like all four trailers but this one is just the best.
Absolutely .. It is truly one the most awesome bad ass fighting sequences I have ever seen. There is nothing that comes even close to matching this.
and the viewers agree with you
I like Weiss Schnee the most but this was cool.
I love Ruby's but Yang's is my favorite. I just love Amber Celica.
Agreed!
Anyone else gonna miss Rooster Teeth? May the amazing memories they gave us never be forgotten.
@@chaasadfearing it's just enough of a show to put *you're* two cents in it though. Completely agree.
And since Roosterteeth's storyboard literally had a black screen with 'Monty's animation', it isn't the studio's animation style, it was *his* animation style
I still agree with you though.
Dante from Devil May Cry would be proud.
+Sateki Taulanga Hell ya Dante is he in the rwby universe would be considered a god just for his skills
+Sateki Taulanga I was actually surprised Dante could shoot 6 bullets in the exact same place without them falling off of each other
How proud would he be to see Rwby Grimm Eclipse?
+Joshua W lol yea good one tho.
and then there's kratos....
I like how she killed 51 monsters in 1 minute 10 seconds.
Ben Schumm Too many numbers. I'm not in math class @.@
It's even cooler how she killed all of them before any of the shells from each round she fired hit the ground.
+michael king (michaelawesome1) Because physics.
You counted?
I'm amazed you had the time to count them.

Nov 2019, and it's still good. Monty is still missed.
Nah, all of the creativity just got redirected towards the story and character development.
Ehhhhhh. Both of those have their own issues. They both need more work to be the creative equivalent to the old fights.
We miss you Monty. Thank you for this beautiful creation and thank you for being amazing 🫡🧡
Interesting how much the grimm design have changed, from these black wolves to beowolves. I really like all of the shells falling at the end
This isn't the proper Grimm design, this is a different model for the trailers, you'll see in season 1 they look more like normal
he knows
This is the best trailer I have ever seen. I am now 20 years old and have not seen better trailer then this. It is so simple and yet complex and full of action, sad, happy, exciting and yet coming. Thank you and rest in peace creator of this awesome trailer. You will be always love and will never be forgotten. we love you
