God, considering Ruby's character and personality, one would not expect a song as dark (yet awesome) and sad as this for HER theme.

True. I think there's more to her than it seems because of these two songs. And some characters that are usually cheerful like Ruby are sad and dark inside. Maybe something will cause her to crack... and considering I May Fall (is that the name? I forgot xD) exists and hinted at Yang and her arm, and Cold and Divide, RWBY will only get darker. I honestly would like that, and I really want some more character development for Ruby.
Well... Next Volume has a time skip. Let's see if our Ruby shows her true colors.

animation is a hurdle to get over in the first 2 seasons as it was a real small project with not a lot of people.
it jumps up in season 3 and onward. if you're into fantasy/sci-fi anime with action give it a try :)

Red like roses 2 goes even harder with the Nevermore fight
Season 1-3 were really interesting. Characters/World feel the best here. Fight scenes are also better. After season 3, there’s a drop in writing quality but the animation gets better so it’s a give and take. Honestly, I’d recommend sitting through it at least once.
It really broke my heart when I realized part 2 is Ruby and Summer talking to one another..
It sad isn't it.

+Holo Ellison I don't think so, by Vol. 3 Ruby still talks dearly to her mother's grave. I think that ironically this song actually fits more for Raven and Yang's relationship (except for the dying part), but I don't know if that was intentional. Unless this song expresses Ruby's darkest and deepest thoughts about her mother's death, but that doesn't seem very likely or convincing, considering her overall positive attitude and mental strength she displayed in Vol. 3's finale.

It's also very possible she will have an emotional breakdown at some point during season 2 (volumes 4, 5, 6) though that's just pure speculation and we'll have to wait and see whats to come
It's crazy knowing how Monty and the crew had everything planned out from the start. I remember listening to vol. 2 soundtrack for the first time and thinking "wow the songwriters are being really over dramatic. Like, they talk about rwby as if it's the most depressing thing ever, but so far the worst thing to happen is a little train wreck." then vol. 3 came and was like "oh all that dark foreshadowing from the soundtrack? Yea, that's just a warm up for what I'm gonna show you." I just never expected the show to take such a dramatic turn so suddenly.

i disagree, season 1, 2, & 3 were good because Monty was still around to be one of the writers. Then before S4 Monty died, thus the downfall of the series because he wasnt around anymore but Miles and Kerry continued the show and was written poorly, so yeah the series would've been different if he was still alive.
@@III-uz6wv Monty was the idea man, he wasn’t a main writer. The majority of what you loved about the first 3 volumes came from Miles and Kerry. Monty himself said that he wasn’t a good writer and that he left the details and fleshing out of the story to them.
Using his name to slight them and calling them bad writers just because you personally don’t like the decisions they made is disrespectful to Monty’s name.
FYI Monty died very early in V3 production so pretty much everything came from someone else

I really hope they continue with this theme, because Mirror Mirror pt. 2 is incredible.

salem`s dead (or missing) mommy quip is REALLY low hanging fruit, shes kinda lost some of her menacingness for me, like C`mon ,its like asking a priest where his choir boy is. they build her up as this shadowy mistress of manipulation and when they come face to face with her (or face to illusion, well, their first direct interaction with her) and she goes right for the most obvious thing, she doesnt try to cause any tension between characters when there are just SO MANY strings she coulda plucked. like yangs abandoment issues and blakes tendency to run, or qrows drinking habbit and semblance getting people around him hurt, or ironwoods clear distain for any huntsmen who arent just fleshy military drones. but no, only piss poor quality writing from whats left of RT.

It's the suspense it creates. The awe. You can feel the rising tension and energy in the song. This is a piece of music from just the first volume and it's still my all-time favorite.

Kwee Kweh yes in fact I think that Qrow is Rubys real father but back to your theory and I'll get into mine in a minute remember when Qrow got stung by the Scorpion dude and Ruby cut his tail off? well after that remember the scene where they are carrying Qrow and he's dreaming? in that dream he says "She's not coming Tye" it sounds like he was there when Summer was killed and considering he's basically a walking bad luck charm and Summer was a pro huntress it makes the chances of his semblace being the cause of her death go through the roof PLUS remember when Qrow showed Ruby and Yang his picture of Raven, Summer, Tye, and him? did you notice the damage the picture had obtained compared to Tye's? if not there was a circle around Summers head and water droplets all over the picture it appears that Qrow got drunk, covered Summers face with a glass, and cried because he couldn't bear to see the face of the women he had gotten killed. now to my theory remember when Ruby wakes up after she went all silver eyes after she saw Pyrha die? well after she wakes up shes talking to Tye but then Qrow intervenes and Tye walks out of the room and while doing so gives Qrow a look like "you almost got her killed to" witch ties in to your theory and after that Qrow tells Ruby the truth about her silver eyes and that Penny and Pyrha are dead a father should be the one to break that kind of news not a uncle and why put up the whole sharade that he is her uncle you ask? well with his semblace and after getting Summer killed (possibly) he didn't want to put Ruby in harms way too BUT that didn't mean he had to pull a Raven and disappear completely so that is why I think both theory's make sence
Tl;dr Qrow might be Ruby’s dad and it might be his fault that Summer died (also taking into account chapter 7)

Theory: Summer Rose is alive but is imprisoned or comatose in Salem's castle but was tortured into having dreams that are pleasant at first but right when Summer thinks everything is okay, it all goes to hell but it does that in an endless cycle of dreams. Kinda like how Dorothy, at the end of the Wizard of Oz woke up in her bed and everything was just a dream. When she does rejoin everyone, she doesn't trust any of them, thinking it could be another one of Salem's illusions or a dreams.

RUclips Minute My issue was that it came out of nowhere. She literally never thinks about her mom or talks about her or really cares. Imo volume 7 was an improvement from the last few volumes though.
Exotic Cats ya, it’s like the writers finally remembered her mother existed those two seasons. I hope at the first couple minutes in volume 8 she thinks back on everything she knows about her mother and starts actually thinking “ oh shit, Salem killed my mom” since I feel this will be the writers only way to develop ruby.
Thats why I like Remnant Infernis. Suriving demonic invasions, being send to Hell and getting little too attatched to 6'8" of brutality... that all can lead to interesting character development, negative sure, but still interesting.

The conversation between Ruby and Summer in Part 2 hits harder now.
Just wanted to say, this has got to be one of, if not, my absolute favorite song. Everything about it is just so perfect to me. How Part I epically builds ups to Part II. The extremely emotional and passionate lyrics, which are even better when you know the show’s story. The hard hitting yet nuanced instrumentals. And the fast paced and emphatic beat with equally emphatic rhyming lyrics (I know rhyming may seem like a small thing, but I feel some modern popular songs don’t really rhyme as hard so I appreciate it when I can).
I just love to lie back, close my eyes, and play this song on full blast on my earphones, so I can try and soak in every detail of this song. The fainter instrumentals. How every word is enunciated. The emotion behind the lyrics. I love it all!!!!!!!!!!

I've been looking threw he comments and noticing everyone thinks was foreshadowing the deaths. When really, it's Ruby asking her mom why she did what she did to die. It's her trying to communicate with her mom. "If I could talk to you, if only for a minute." Her mom is trying to answer her, but, because she's dead, she can't. It hurts her to watch her daughter go through in becoming a huntress because she doesn't want her daughter to end up like she did. Ruby was so young when her mom died, she didn't know what happened, this is her asking her 'Why did you leave me?"

rose bud Nope Summer is dead. Didn't disappear. Taiyang would've known. Her death is a pretty central part of the show. One the first things you see in Red Trailer and Volume 1 opening is her grave.

She even could've asked her death to let people think that she's dead, what if that's what happened? It's a big possibility.

It came from the original mp3 of Red Like Roses Part II that RT released on iTunes (before the volume 1 soundtrack was released); the soundtrack version cut that part out.

In most songs theres 1 powerfull verse that moves you and makes you feel something for the song... Red like roses part 1, the whole song is that powerfull verse. part 2 the lines that got me were "Red, like, roses fills my head, with dreams, and finds, me always, closer, to the empteiniss and sadness that has come to take the place, of you!" Because It shows how Ruby is still burdend by her mothers death and how much she misses her but the only thing the has in the place were her mother should be is emptieness and sadness. The other line was "Summer: Your not the only one who who needed me, I thought you understo_ Ruby: YOU WERE THE ONE I NEEDED AND YOU LEFT ME AS I ALLWAYS FEARED YOU WOULD! Summer: Would, I, change, it, if, I, could Ruby: IT DOESENT MATTER HOW!!! THE PETTELS SCATTER NOW!!! EVERY NIGHTMARE JUST DISCLOSES, ITS YOUR BLOOD THATS RED LIKE ROSES!!! and no matter what I do, nothing EVER TAKES THE PLACE OF YOU!". This line to me was the most powerfull line in the song because Ruby is absolutly right, Summer had a family, a daughter... She (even if she dident expect it) should have not risked her life like that. People needed Summer, but Ruby needed her more... she needed a mother. This also conferms that red like roses is refering to her mothers blood... now... Ruby's mother's blood is what fills her head and pulls her closer to emptieness and sadness. And finaly, No matter how hard she tries, no matter what she does nothing ever takes the place... of her mother. And the fact that Summer had nothing to say after that line shows... Rubys was absolutly right...

Honestly, who would have ever thought back in season 1 that this would be prophetic?! This show is secret genius! And the song on its own is great too ! :P
That's not not all that surprising, actually. Once you sit down and actually pay attention to the score for any movie or show (mind you this rarely happens on the first or second run through), you start to notice little tells that you didn't notice before. It's like the "wow, I didn't see that before" but takes a few more runs.

My new theory is this:
Silver eyes can kill grimm right?
Salem can't die, but she is half grimm. So if they use the silver eyes to defeat her, two things could happen: Salem turns to stone, still alive, just stuck and unable to escape. Or it kills the grimm half of Salem, leaving a weak human with no power. Salem could lose her magic, and then just end up in jail.

RWBY was one of the biggest inspirations for a story I’ve been writing for the better part of 5 years now. And going on later in the series the themes actually seem to be somewhat similar. The story I’m writing is about how it’s foolish to chase huge things that aren’t even real problems right now when there’s people around you who are suffering from something that you actually can fix. RWBY seems to be about how you truly need to work together to tackle huge complex problems. So I like how without intending it, this show gave me a baseline for the story I want to tell that mostly came from a particularly bad existential crisis that I had when I was 14

the lyrics are a reference to the fairy tales team RWBY are based on, as well as explaining a bit about them.
"red like roses" - red riding hood "fills my dreams and brings me to the place you rest" -part 2 explains that ruby's having nightmares of her mother's death and it's causing her to visit her mother's grave.
"white is cold" -snow white "and always yearning, burdened by a royal test" -weiss is rich and her rage and hate come from her father's manipulative control, which her "test" is her attempt to get free.
"black, the beast" - beauty and the beast "descends from shadows" - reference's blake's ninja stylings and her being part of the shadowy white fang. the first part also questions who is the beauty and who is the beast, because blake is both.
"yellow beauty" - goldilocks "burns gold" - references yang's fire abilities and the fact her hair literally "burns golden" when she uses her power, which is also referenced in "i burn" with "i'm super saiyan now".
so the lyrics are a lot deeper than you were thinking and contain layered references. monty took enough notes for 20 seasons and it shows.
I can't listen to this without crying because this show was introduced by a friend I was forced to leave
