@@robertcorbett9455 And they shoehorn someone into a role just because they are popular at the time. And completely suck for the role in all aspects. Nick Cage as Ghost Rider comes to mind. And yet, Wesley as Blade, Hugh as Wolverine and Pearlman as HellBoy. So perfectly cast for the roles are they. We as fans cannot imagine anyone else ever taking up those mantles and doing them justice.

Each movie is a reflection of the director.
Stephen Norrington set the foundation, with horror/super-hero action stunts, and some very visual set-pieces (the blood rave, motorcycle attack in the building fountains).
Blade II channeled Guillermo del Toro's love of horror and comic books, with his distinctive color palette, dark humor, and willingness to have over-the-top craziness. My favorite of the three.
The third film had a first time director and Snipes having a personal meltdown, causing a troubled production. It had its moments (Ryan Reynolds showed he wasn't just a comedic actor), but Trinity was the weakest of the films by far.

Karen is a Haematologist. She is an expert in blood disorders and vampirism seems to be a virus in the Marvel universe, so she's the perfect person to find a cure.
Before Whistler was murdered, she says that she went to the hospital and took some stuff. She spent the night creating a cure for herself.
You were sharp-eyed enough to notice that the blue vials weren't Blade's serum (which are red) so kudos to you...! 👍🏻
I like that they used other creatures like Pearl and explained how Curtis became a zombie.
I always remember being exposed to stuff that we weren't mature enough to see, but the 90s was the best for films and music.
Saw this in the cinema and was blown away by the brilliance of it.
Blade & The Matrix are my favourite films and just like Matrix, the second films in both trilogies are superior to the first, so I highly recommend Blade 2.
It was fun sharing your first time viewing of this classic, so thanks for the cool video...!

The only times I ever saw Blade in a comic not named "Blade" was in a mini-series "Hearts of Darkness" where he teamed up with Ghost Rider and Wolverine to take on Blackheart (son of the devil in Marvel). Then he was one of the rotating members of The Midnight Sons with Ghost Rider (both Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch), The Punisher and Morbius. He was also a playable character in The Midnight Sons game (2022). The Midnight Sons share a universe with The Avengers and The X-Men.

  • @Ylyrra
    @Ylyrra 8 месяцев назад +2

Deacon Frost is one of the great film villains, you really feel the charisma he has to make people follow him even though he's clearly a lunatic... the conversation where he's convincing Quinn that "he needs him" to get him on board with capturing Blade rather than killing, it's top notch writing and acting and completely unexpected for an action movie. You 100% believe that people would follow this guy. Or the little look and "Thanks" to Quinn after the completely unnecessary punch in Blade's face, great character moment.

There were a handful of Marvel character movies made by various studios before the MCU and Marvel Studios were formed. Blade (Warner Bros) was one of the first successful ones. Then came the X-Men series (2000-2020) with Fox, then Spider-man (2002-Present) with Sony. Daredevil (2003) and Fantastic Four (2005-2015) also with Fox, a little Punisher (1989-2008), Hulk (2003), Ghost Rider (2007, 2011) and a few others sprinkles in too. Mixed reviews on most of them, I personally liked most, even with the campiness and questionable production of many of them.

Blade didn't start any trends, it was one film in the middle of a trend of "dark" (in aesthetic as well as tone) action movies in the 90s, it wasn't the first or the last even if it was a VERY good example of one. You arguably can even go back to the Keaton Batman if you wanted the start of the trend, but you had The Crow, Spawn, Dark City, probably others I've forgot by now. Blade was definitely influential, because it was one of the more successful ones before The Matrix really moved the goalposts for everyone.

Blade was originally a supporting character in the Marvel comic Tomb of Dracula which was part of their horror series back in the 70s along with the likes of Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing. Marvel are currently working on a new Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali and due out sometime in 2025. He already had a voice only cameo as Blade in a post credit sequence of 2021's Eternals. But it is hard to imagine anyone coming close to the uber cool badassery of Wesley in the role.

Also in the same year we had John Carpenter's Vampires, another excellent vampire movie. It was a trend following From Dusk Till Dawn a couple years before as well as Tales from the Crypt: Bordello Of Blood, and Interview With A Vampire another couple years before that. It was quite a time when Horror films were the thing blending with other genres of course. It still seems to bounce between Zombies and Vampires today.

Blade is indeed a Marvel hero. However he operates at street level and only concerns himself with hunting vampires (and indirectly other supernatural night-time evil doer's) There has been crossovers with other Marvel hero's, but nothing really of note. He would join The Defenders (with Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron Claw) but their vampire hunting priority doesn't 'cut' it for Blade.
