    Lyrics:
He who walks the fire breathes
    Unlike the rest
    living by the bloody creed
    kirisute gomen
    air of battle tasting stale
    reeks of deceit
send the bitter straight to hell
    kirisute gomen
in their wretched guts all they want is to feed
unending, covetous hunger known as greed
as the last legion makes it's way to the skies
i can see in their eyes
    they've already died
inside, but as for the outside
    i'll take their fucking heads
quake has bred with the storm
    conceiving war
    wicked stampeding hordes
    kirisute gomen
i will never be what they
    want me to
i live by my own path in life
    no turning
back now, i won't be held down
forced into a shallow grave built upon their empty ways
    there's no turning back
there's hell to pay, such disarray
    a bloodied mess, flesh masquerade
with all the blood making a flood
you made your path by crossing us
he who spits the fire seethes
    all he detests
    decapitating, bloody creed
    kirisute gomen

I remember in 2006, I told a supposed "metal connoisseur" that Trivium was my favourite band and that they were going places. He laughed and said he'd never heard of them and that he heard from a friend that they sucked. The day this album came out at the end of 2008, I heard the first track and said it was fantastic - an equivalent to Machine Head's 'The Blackening'. This time a friend of mine, one of those guys who only plays Pantera and 'heavy-ass' metal, said it sucked. I questioned my taste of the genre in its entirety. Fast forward today, almost 10 years later, I see this track being praised monumentally (albeit still with divisive opinions). I've now learned two things: firstly, that perhaps this album was just way ahead of its time; and secondly, those two guys I mentioned just now - fuck, they are the ones who suck.

  • @raydawg9200
    @raydawg9200 8 лет назад +207

If anyone is interested kirisute gomen is the act of striking (typically killing) someone of a lower social standing due to said person dishonouring them. This was traditionally done (although not exclusively) in feudal Japan with samurai honour killing due to a pleb dishonouring them, considering that this song is in the shogun album, it is quite fitting addition to the Japanese theme of the album.

When Trivium first came out I ignored them cus I just thought they were Metallica/Pantera copycats, trying too hard. After years of being ignorant I've finally listened to Shogun. And..what..the..fuck? Its one of the greatest metal albums I've ever heard? How is this not more well known. The guitars are so fucking brutal, the chunk off those seven strings, machine gun double bass drum as well. Absolutely phenomenal. Never make a judgement without listening properly.

I was a bit racist when i heard about these guys. First heard their song on saint's row 2, it was anthem. I liked the song so i did research. Then I was like "no way he's Japanese?"and i fell in love with these guys. Loved their ascendancy album. Ember to inferno wasn't bad, but i wish it had more guitar solos.
For me it's ascendancy, crusade, shogun, and ember to inferno. In waves is a good album but haven't heard everything off that one yet and vengeance falls is horrible. Draiman is a horrible producer.

I saw them live on their first tour. then again 2x after. I personally loved the raw metal epicness.but for some reason I still can't figure out, and continuing to this day, their crowds simply have no energy. how, with them playing things like this and Shogun I have no clue. but I think that has something to do with why you never heard more of them. they just never got mentioned with the greats. of course having David dramen produce one of your CDs doesn't help. although I did enjoy VF a lot. still, they are damn good. their new stuff sounds like it's going to be good too

+GetSumNutz Metallica/Pantera copycats? You need to get your ears checked. Since they really dont sound like either of those bands aside from the electric guitar sound. If anything there are parts in this cd that actually do sound less heavy so its more like Metallica/Pantera even though Metallica and Pantera also dont sound like each other. Ascendancy will remain their best work. Since I dont think the lead singer wants to sing like that anymore. Which is fine.

This is Triviums "Bohemian Rhapsody." Before Kirisute Gomen, I never thought heavy metal would have a song to rival Queen's. I was wrong. "Torn Between Scylla And Charybdis" and "Down From The Sky" are seconds, not close seconds, but still worthy of consideration. Shogun was the first proper full album I bought in my life, instead of casette rips and individual tracks, and I bought it for the extended edition. I bought it because I heard it and thought "people are gonna talk about this song a hundred years from now." Thankfully I'm not in Matt's shoes, because the first time I listened to this song I would have smashed my guitar and given up on music forever. Theres not a single word, not a single note, harmony, drum beat, or pitch that doesn't belong. And if you cut one thing from this song, even one fraction of a second, it wouldn't be what it is.
Thank you for allowing me to pay for this. It's perfect.

I think many fans in the metal super-genre are very closed minded, as evidenced by a lot of comments here. Trivium would be shitty musicians if they just kept making Shogun 2, Shogun 3, etc. because that is what the fans want. It is the same complaints from the fans of every band. "Their new record isn't just like their old one that I really liked". Too fucking bad. Vengeance Falls isn't Shogun 2. Don't you think if Trivium wanted to make Shogun 2, they would have? Same thing happened to Avenged Sevenfold. And Metallica. I loved their old stuff, but their new stuff is good too......same with Trivium.

    • @davidcoffman321
      @davidcoffman321 10 лет назад +13

I've been totally open minded to the last 2 Trivium records, which were great, and will continue to be open, but they did not hit home anywhere near like Shogun. With that being said, one thing I love about Trivium is how they are an ever-changing band. You can never expect a sequel to a previous release. I just hope hope they get a little more creative with the riffs on future albums. I have no problem with all the singing and less screaming I just felt that the riffs and compositions on VF are the most generic of all their releases so far.

No one cares man. Go ahead and just enjoy everything your little "perfect favourite bands" create. Guess what, everyone enjoys different art. Elitism is only a problem if people begin to harass others about music they like. If they don't like a certain god damn album from a band they like, fine. They don't like it, end of story. As i said, elitism based on a douche seeing a band photo and deciding he won't like the band is annoying. If it was up to fans like a lot of fans here, every album would have more choruses, shitty riffs and a mainstream feel, "because everything they do is oh so amazing and inspirational". Shogun is amazing, and neither In waves or Vengeance falls have even come close to touching it in my opinion. I'm sure you have albums that you don't like as much as others.

    • @DropdaLTDtoB
      @DropdaLTDtoB 10 лет назад +1

GamerTagVideos What you told me is That music someone doesn't like is not commercial or a "sell out" sound, it's simply music that the person doesn't enjoy.
      Um.... EVERYONE KNOWS THAT.
What? Load wasn't commercial? haha, good one. "Hetfield's feelings", yeah alright. The entire reason i would get into Metallica is to hear about Hetfield's emotions, totally. Not at all because albums like Puppets and Justice are 40-50 mins of absolute amazingly orchestrated (not always as in instruments, as in intricate structures), diverse and technical thrash metal that was pushing ahead of it's time. End rant section lol.
Anyway, when i spoke about a mainstream sound sometimes attracting slightly more oblivious fans (yeah, i know it sounds like a generalisation, but of course not everyone is, hell i myself got into them around the in waves cycle), I was just talking about the fans who praise fucking everything they do. It's madness, i mean i like the newer stuff to, but Shogun is..... Shogun. That's really all i should have to say lol, but obviously some people might not enjoy the technicality and overall songwriting style on Shogun. I love screaming my lungs out at their shows to Strife and In waves to, but i gravitate more towards Shogun because of the majority of the other music i like (Death metal and Black metal). I just wish fans wouldn't praise everything a band does as completely perfect.

    The Bridge to Life
One of the oldest questions humankind has been asking is, “How can I know God?” The question is a valid one. What is He like? What can we do to please Him? How can we get to Heaven? If we work hard enough to be a good enough person will He accept us then? If we do enough religious activities to get His attention, will that do it?
Fortunately for us, the answer is surprisingly simple. The “Gospel” that the Bible talks about literally means, “the Good News,” and the news is good indeed!
First, we have to start at the beginning. In Genesis 1:26, when God created the first humans, He said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness”, then God blessed them and spent the days walking and talking with the people He had created. In short, life was good.
But why isn’t life like that anymore? What happened to mess everything up? This brings us to the second point: when we (humankind) chose to do the opposite of what God told us, sin poisoned the world. Sin separated us from God, and everything changed.Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” and in Isaiah 59:2 we’re told, “your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you so that he will not hear.”
This is especially bad news because there is no way for us to get across that gap on our own. We (humankind) have tried to find our way back to God and a perfect world on our own ever since then, and without any luck. We try to get there by being good people, or through religion, money, morality, philosophy, education, or any number of other ways, but eventually we find out that none of it works. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12).
There is only one way to find peace with God, and the Bible says it is through Jesus Christ. We were stranded without any way of getting back to our Creator, and we needed a way to pay for our sins and be clean again so that we could be welcomed back to be with Him.Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” So this is the Good News-that even though we were still enemies of God (as one translation says), Jesus came to die on the cross and pay the price for our sins so that we could have a relationship with Him again. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
What then should be our reaction to this awesome news? This brings us to the last and most important part.John 5:24 says, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” Jesus Christ himself even says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10), and Romans 5:1 says, “we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
So how can I have peace with God, life to the full, and be confident of eternal life like these verses say? First, through an honest prayer to God, I have to admit that I’m not perfect-that I can’t escape my sins, and I can’t save myself. I follow this admission by believing that Jesus Christ died for me on the cross and rose from the grave, conquering death and sin. Then I invite Jesus Christ to live in me and be the Lord of my life, accepting His free gift of eternal life with Him.
The prayer can go something like this:
    “Dear Jesus,
I know that I am a sinner and that I need You to forgive me. I know that You died a painful death so that my sins could be washed clean. Thank you. I want to make You the Lord of my life, and I will trust and follow You. Everything I have is Yours now.
    In Your name, Lord.
    Amen.”
There is nothing magical about these words. It’s not the words themselves that make things right between you and God-it’s whether or not your heart really means it. We know this because in 1 Samuel 16:7, the Bible says, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
The best part of this whole process is that it doesn’t matter how badly we’ve messed up, Jesus is powerful enough to save anyone from their sins-even the worst of us. Romans 10:13 says, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." That’s fantastic news-no matter how badly we’ve messed up, we can place our complete trust in Jesus, and He will wipe all of our sins off the face of the earth. Jesus is the bridge to life.

I still remember coming home from school, 17 years old, turning on my computer and finding THIS!

He who walks the Fire breathes!! God I love the start of this song it seriously reminds me of a War Drum beating before the battle starts. If I heard this before going into a battle I assure you someone is going to die before I make my way to the sky.

"I can see it in their eyes. They've already died" listen to how close he sounds like James Hetfield when he says that. Old Metallica song on steroids.

Trivium at their worst are more talented than any rapper at their best. Metal will always reign supreme. Metalheads Unite!!!!
