I think for nostalgic reasons I'll always see Ascendancy as their best album, but I can absolutely understand why people think Shogun is their peak, its such a banger.
Life feeEEEeeells like Hell should, this Hell's so cold. Pull another knife out! Stick it with the rest of theeeEEeemm, when my back is full, turn me around and face it!!
I totally agree, their lyrics are sweet cream for the taste! :D They are full of different meanings and most of the songs on Shogun are connected with mythology or books. Some people are also fed up with the same lyrics about love, hearts broken and sex!! Trivium brings something different and more cultered! ; )
Sobek croc You'd love Amon Amarth then. ALL their songs are about viking warriors, viking history or Norse Mythology. Twilight of the Thunder God is a good starter album.
Wow, shit. I wonder if there's something like a word encyclopedia that one could look at...like a book that had a bunch of words and their meanings, and then one that had all their synonyms and antonyms and whatnot...bet you'd find lots of words in those...
+Andy Shafer Nah man, both are just as good as one another in their own way, even though the differences can actually be looked at easily, I can still hear the normal, "Trivium" ways in their guitar technique! :) Personally, I LOVED the Shogun album, mostly due to its thrash instincts and sick guitar action! No matter how many times I listen to "He Who Spawned the Furies" or "Of Prometheus and the Crucifix", it is just as good as the first time I have listened to it! The people that usually hate this band is because they mostly moved away from a certain genre they might have adored! To me, it seems interesting the way Trivium experiments with their sound! The Silence in the Snow album may be too light or mid-tempo for me, but it still is fun to try and listen to something new! :) (By the way, the more I listened to "Silence in the Snow", the more it was stuck in my head... XD)
Throes: Struggle relating to life or death Perdition: Eternal damnation; hell This song is about struggling to escape from hell, but failing over and over again.
I think there's actually a bit more to it, at least the video. The man in the video is obviously struggling, but the chains of hell continue to pull him back. He eventually breaks free of them, only to come to face to with justice (the woman), who then turns him to stone. I think what the song and video are saying is that, despite however much one may struggle, there is no escaping from the fate we've carved for ourselves, and we all must face the consequences of our actions. Certainly sounds like something Matt would write.
RagingRogue 29 It was easy for me to come up with because that's the sort of thing I would write. I actually used to write a lot of songs with that sort of somewhat obscure symbolism, and much in the same style as Matt, so I kind of know how he thinks when it comes to lyrics.
RagingRogue 29 Basically, yeah. it all depended on what I felt like doing that day. The stuff I wrote usually ranged from thrash metal to death metal, to black metal.
Gotta be the only band that made my english vocabulary better. Not too many other bands have lyrics to figure out what they mean. Matt is definitely well educated.
I actually really like the vocals in this song for some reason. They provide both a sense of melody and a sense of aggression at the same time. I guess a lot of Matt Heafy’s vocals are like that but they just hit different in this song
Imo it works so well because it's like a beautifully tragic anthem and the mix of melodic singing with the harsh growls adds to the dynamic of the riffs in a way that just perfectly captures the feel of the song almost like the motivation you get with the guitar solos mixed with anguish of the lyrics and how tough life can be it brings you up and brings you down just like life such a beautiful duality that makes this song an all time classic that will always be one of their best songs
This song deserves SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many more views
Hi not so big fan of them, but my fav albums are Debut and "SHOGUN" (2008). Especially "into the mouth of hell We march" & "throes of perdition", of course💜🎸👍
I hardly buy albums anymore, but I just had to pick up Shogun last week. I love how my favorite song on it keeps changing. First it was Down from the Sky, now it's this. That's when you know an album is good and you made a good purchase.
Trivium is imo probably the band with the most replay value last year alone I listened to rain 79 times (I only know that because Spotify wrapped told me lmao) still don't get tired of that song or ascendency in general their music just gets better with time!!!
I'd never heard of Trivium before i saw this video on RAGE back when it was released, now i have the complete catalogue of Trivium albums! This one song started it all for me. Trivium fan for life!
For me it also started with this song. Heard it on Pandora and I kept coming back for more and more ever since. Now I have one album, one concert experience with them and hell even one of Matt's signature Epiphone Les Pauls....man this band is amazing
2:35 when the double bass roll is played at the right tempo through its entirety, it sounds fucking beautiful. I caught Alex Bent play this to perfection and It sounded spot on!!!
I feel you there, last year when I saw this video for the first time it was so different from the rest of the stuff I had heard from them and I kept finding myself coming back to it over and over and couldn't get the chorus out of my head for like at least two or three weeks and now this song brings me to tears nearly Everytime I listen to it/ watch the video, its like a theme song to me and it just motivates me in a weird way to keep pushing through and make my life better, this song is a masterpiece!!!
Keep it up, it's a great a setting and you gotta use what you got to get through the tough moments in life, hope you have some peeps looking out for ya! 💜
We become masters when we transmute energy into what we choose. Metal has always had a special way of providing energy for the Fire that is the soul. God Bless.
How bout this, If thats the character from countdown, the white angel lady looks like the cover of And Justice for All.. They hold hands and unite in the end. This was uploaded in 2010. The same year Dave Mustaine and Metallica reunited for a concert with the rest of the Big 4. ;)
This album is so good, all songs are incredible. So full of mythology references and I still remember when it came out, me and my friend used to sing along to all the songs. Good old times.
Some years later, I gather new meaning from this song, and the video. They were right: this world looks down upon a man who can stand on his own two feet. Legends 🤙🏻
Metalhead1406 Nah man, except this song, Kirisute Gomen, Down From The Sky, Into The Mouth Of Hell We March and Iron Maiden, pretty much every Shogun song is underrated even the title track itself. Throes Of Perdition is Trivium's 10th most popular song according to RUclips so...
This would be perfect for a movie. Like a Forbidden Kingdom type of movie and this song plays as the final battle ensues, one army fighting against another and the hero finally uses his full power against the main antagonist
The lead singer…watching some of their first videos and seeing how differently he looks now compared to them…he doesn’t even look like the same guy lol…love their music…how it pulls u in and u can feel the music at ur core …I love it!
The only difference between metal and classical, specifically baroque and romantic, (apart from instruments) is the 0000010010000001 rhythm guitar parts. Literally everything else, from the extreme dissonance and emotional drive is exactly the same.
Damn it's 2021. This is the 1 metal song back in 2004 that literally got me into metal like this. And still is one of my favorite songs. This is so powerful
This album is pure gold. If I remember correctly, this video was released in Roadrunner Records' channel. It seems they moved it and that's why the old comments are gone. I don't know what did they do tho.
Marko Polo In an interview Matt Heafy said thathe doesn't want to sound same in every album and make different kinds of music so it won't be limited to only 1 genre and if people get bored of that 1 genre they will be able to listen to other stuff as well. I went to their concert last summer and it was really great, they are really good with the new songs and improved the old ones as well!
in my country, haters uses to be the ones Who love trash-case-like songs... what i do not understand is why the hell haters waste their time watching and commenting ... i believe it's to justify their hatred: you cannot hate what you do not know. If that's the reason, it's both wise and stupid.
This is DEFINATELY my favourite Trivium song from the best Trivium album :) This band should be held up on the Big 4's shoulder's for carrying their Thrasher legacies forward!!
Damn Matt your hair fucking rocks in this video! I dont comment on mens hair but this shit rocks like a Lions mane, but I bet it got way too hot for him at concerts
this raspy vocal style suited matt the best. gave the songs so much more power. this was trivium's greatest era. so glad i got to see them live during this period.
Trivium is one of the very few metalcore-bands I really like :D I just love the instrumental in this song, and the lyrics are awesome too. Also, the video inspires me every time I watch this :3
Can I just say? I love this song, and listening to this type of music in general is very...intriguing as a classically trained amateur pianist. My perfect pitch makes me want to analyze every musical transition and every chord progression, and boy does this song have some good ones.
Shogun is definitely their most technical and melodic album. Ascendancy was pure brutal. Shogun is their prime, my opinion
The Crusade is more melodic. Shogun is great mix of the melodic style of The Crusade mixed with the brutal sound of Ascendancy.
Trivium my dudes!
best albums of trivium ascendancy the crusade and shogun that albums I have in my cd collection
I love metal when there are also nice melodies and harmonies
I think for nostalgic reasons I'll always see Ascendancy as their best album, but I can absolutely understand why people think Shogun is their peak, its such a banger.
The whole Trivium discography is a masterpiece.
But this song is something different. It's just the best!

FRRRR THO 🙌🙌🙌
This song has been my top song in Spotify for 3 years now, lmao.
Trivium's song names enhance my english vocabulary with words I have never heard - best kind of education :D
I totally agree, their lyrics are sweet cream for the taste! :D They are full of different meanings and most of the songs on Shogun are connected with mythology or books. Wow, shit. I wonder if there's something like a word encyclopedia that one could look at...like a book that had a bunch of words and their meanings, and then one that had all their synonyms and antonyms and whatnot...bet you'd find lots of words in those...
Matt's hair around shogun era was the best in my opinion
I'm agree
he's going to be bald soon
ascandency... there he had the best hair....
xD
Personally I think the music is more important, and the fact that he wears it however the fuck he wants 👍🏻
Am I the only one that likes both new and old Trivium?
Nah man still loving em
Trivium will always make great music, but it changes every album.
+Andy Shafer Right here bro
Their whole discography is incredible
+Andy Shafer Nah man, both are just as good as one another in their own way, even though the differences can actually be looked at easily, I can still hear the normal, "Trivium" ways in their guitar technique! :)

That moment when you got to a Trivium show and you forgot your dictionnary
+Nicolas Genier That's very original man, really nailed it :D
Nicolas Genier *thesaurus
I can tell. U misspelled dictionary😂
That moment when you get lost at the riffs
You never heard a Bad Religion album thanks to them I knew the word Trepidation before I ever heard Trivium's A Gunshsot To The Head Of Trepidation.
Throes of Perfection......this song got one of the best riff of all time!
11 years later.. this song still SLAPS HARD !!
that for sure
damn right it does!
Fuck ya Rock on

Try "Shadows Fall"
Dennis19901 or sylosis or lamb of god or machine head
Gui Tariste Sylosis is so fucking awesome
Definitely listen to Sylosis!
Al Alberqurque Check out Opeth man
those riffs...so good. actually no...everything is pure excellence. please excuse me while i thoroughly enjoy this song.

Huge Hatfield influence shows in this song
É tipo um james Hetfiel com esteroides.
wtf have I been doing in the past decades? How did I never heard of these guys? Just today found them. Very impressed.
I like when Matt said in an interview that if you like albums like Ascendancy better, then put it in your stereo and enjoy it! :-)
All the music I can't get over is from 14years ago 360p baby

Woooooo 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
This album really was a metal masterpiece...
And still is!!!
The poetry in Trivium's lyrics are beautiful, as well as their instrumental. They simply have it all.
His scream at the ending makes it completely perfect
yes, but he totally took it from 1000 eyes - Death
I LOVE this band. They've progressed, regresssed and proved their worth. Nothing left said.
Trivium is criminally underrated ❤

not so big fan of them, but my fav albums are Debut and "SHOGUN" (2008). Especially "into the mouth of hell We march" & "throes of perdition", of course💜🎸👍

Bands like Trivium are why I love Metalcore. So much melody and musicianship it's unreal, made for live performance and singalong
Long haired Matt Heafy and Paolo Gregoletto don't exist they can't hurt you
Long haired Matt Heafy and Paolo Gregoletto:
I was like is that paolo? With hair? omg
They were metallica as fuck
I love how they started out with long hair but slowly cut it shorter until they went bald
2:35 when the double bass roll is played at the right tempo through its entirety, it sounds fucking beautiful. I caught Alex Bent play this to perfection and It sounded spot on!!!
i just LOVE the transition to the heavy part at 2:35 why is nobody else about it?
I think that is my favorite part of any trivium song, even though the song itself isn't my favorite
Been listening to this on repeat for days because it somehow helps beat the suicidal ideation. Absolutely love these guys.

Keep fighting. Music helps the soul.

I honestly think this may be their best song
I like to think of the character in the music video as the guy from the cover of Countdown to Extinction
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking!!! XD
How bout this, If thats the character from countdown, the white angel lady looks like the cover of And Justice for All.. They hold hands and unite in the end. This was uploaded in 2010. The same year Dave Mustaine and Metallica reunited for a concert with the rest of the Big 4. ;)

Mind=Blown.

This is the most underrated song in metal ever share it
This album is so good, all songs are incredible. So full of mythology references and I still remember when it came out, me and my friend used to sing along to all the songs. Good old times.
I don’t think they could ever top this album. The crusade and shogun is peak trivium to me.

My fav from the Shogun album. Such a trivium classic, Best song from the album imo!
Trivium's pinnacle imo. Nothing tops this song!!!!! Everything is perfect in this song!! The perfect balance!!!!
We need this in 4k 🤘🏻 👊🏻
This song is so fucking underrated.

I still remember when I was 4 years old I found this video in my father's gallery
This is hands down their greatest song Lyrically. Should be in the Metal Hall of Fame and Played before the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance.
Amen
lmao
Along With Horizons , from the Horizons album by Parkway Drive. A lyrical masterpiece.
i swear matt with long hair really brings out his Asian complexion.
So hawt.

Trivium its so underated it is starting to be unreal matt is the best songwriter/composer i ever seen he is a genius
This is by FAR one of Trivium's best songs. MASTERPIECE!!!!
This song is so good performed live. They light up the crowd for the "die" part, and everyone sings the choruses loudly
Chorus gets me everytime, definitely my favourite Trivium song
This song has the best breakdown ever

November cannot come quick enough.....NEVER miss a Trivium show within 200 miles of home.
sick 2:35 - 3:07 ...dat double bass and screaming...

It would be awesome to get a Shogun remastered with Alex on drums and Matt's new vocals.
i think ember to inferno needs that treatment i think this record is fine as is
No, it would not imo.
They should just keep writing together until they make a new album as epic as Shogun.
Nope. Shogun is like a time capsule from that time and is already perfect for its time. A re-recording would be forced.
No because Matt's vocals are way different now and would ruin alot of songs from Shogun imo.
0:00-5:50 my favorite part
One of my top Trivium tracks , good rhythm on point (Y) heyy heyyy heyyy
This isn’t simply fire. It’s hellfire from the 9th Circle! Pure epic!
