Hi Liz I've been terrified of even watching your videos about portraits but finally watched this one this morning. Please please write a book on portraits your explanations really help. I've just bought your painting birds book and it has to be one of the best books on this subject that I have ever read. Thank you so much for all that you share with us. Have a wonderful Christmas 2022 x
@@LizChadertonStudio That's amazing I had a feeling you might be. You are truly an inspiration to me and your videos have really given me the confidence to paint when I was on the verge of giving up. I look forward to buying all of your books over the next few months x
I had the exact same thought whilst watching this! I have taken a series of screenshots, hoping to write some notes up later, but a book would be brilliant.
Fantastic tutorial, Liz, thank you so much! Your clear explanations and diagrams have been really helpful and much appreciated. I’ll go and start practicing right now!
You're an amazingly talented lady, and so kind to show your process and share your thoughts. One thought, the background music is a distraction. All the best from NC USA
Turn you photo black and white. Take a black and white pic of your painting and compare. we judge tone relative to the tone next to it. Things appear darker next to light and vice versa. Get a piece of white paper and cut a small square out. Place over the image and now judge tone. You will be comparing like with like.
Having found your videos, I am enjoying working my way through them and learning a great deal thanks. The only thing I don't like is the very annoying, distracting, repetitive background "music".
This is an old film and I thought background music was a good idea when I started. I don’t use it now and sadly I cannot remove it. New films are safe to your ears….
I love your tutorials and tips.. Please don’t be offended but the music is very annoying, especially while wearing ear buds. Thank you Liz for all you do.

agree entirely about the music! All my more recent films don’t have it. But I cannot remove it from older films without remaking them.
You are very talented Liz. 😍
it’s a lot of practise and enthusiasm rather than talent!
Your portraits are so beautiful! Thanks for sharing all these tips. I really struggle with the tone's value, have you got some tips?

@@LizChadertonStudio thanks a lot
These are beautiful. Have you tried doing a photo transfer with the watercolor? I’m wondering if that would work.
No I haven’t. I’m not quite sure what you mean?
Need this as a print out :)
sorry, I don’t even know how I can do a print out on RUclips!
I found this really helpful Liz..but the music is very irritating
yes, I don’t add music any longer…
Having found your videos, I am enjoying working my way through them and learning a great deal thanks. The only thing I don't like is the very annoying, distracting, repetitive background "music".
only the oldest films have background music. I was learning and decided I hated it too
I love the instruction! I would prefer not to have the music in the background so I can concentrate on the good information.
yes. when I first made films I put on music, then realised it’s very annoying, so stopped. I’m afraid I can’t remove it
I am so lazy. Bought everything, keep postponing and watching YT on watercolor. Is there anyone like me watching this video?
practice is better than watching RUclips!
I did find the tinkly music to be irritating, maybe something more melodic or no music at all would be more conducive to painting.

I know… I only did it on early films and don’t do it anymore…
