Thank you so much for this. I use plastic wrap to provide the base for “found” objects in a setting…leaves, flowers, little houses, trees, water, rocks, etc. I never feel comfortable laying down a scene or still life on a white piece of paper, but the designs provided by the cling wrap, always provide enough of a suggestion to get me started. Your new-to-me ideas have me excited to work with new background textures, which will become the foreground in my paintings. Can’t wait to have a go at it.
@@LizChadertonStudio I'm watching your wonderful videos as Florida's hurricane Ian is going over my house. You're both teaching me and calming me by shutting down the crazy side of my brain. Lol Just a thought. Have you tried this method using Yupo paper? Might work well with the masking technique.
@@AFAskygoddess stay safe. It sounds wild. I’m glad you still have power. I haven’t used yup for ages to be honest. I might have to add that to my list! Look after yourself x
Thank you now I know where Ive been going wrong. Im not an artist at all but love art and love the look of cling film on watercolour but didnt know how to do it properly you have shown me the light 😁
I love your work, Liz. It can be so different, so inspiring, so exciting, so beautiful and distinct. Thank you. [As I send this comment, it's Christmas Eve here. So have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy 2024. 😎from Sunshine Coast, Qld. Oz
Oh, my goodness ❣️ Thank you for giving such a clear lesson on this technique. Love all your work. This is just the first of your videos I have watched and I am so excited to watch more. You are such an amazing teacher and so generous for all of your content.
Thank you Liz. It’s been many years since I tried this. I once tried it on painting of a toad and it gave a lovely warty effect and also in the surrounding grass.
This was fun and interesting. I have experimented a bit with this, but obviously not enough, looking forward to next week. Thank you, always enjoyable.
These are all so interesting and useful. Thank you so much for making these videos. I'm working now to learn how to do more abstractions and these videos are very helpful.
Doing this on wet paper, has that been my problem all along ?! I am never been able to get results, is this why ? Could it be this simple ? I hope so !
Not sure I understand? The paint has to be wet when you pit the wrap on. Move it around to get a good pattern and then leave it in place until the paint is dry before removing. Hope it works for you now 😊

What a terrific tutorial! Thank you, Liz. Will you consider making another video and finishing these cling film backgrounds to a full picture?
Great idea! I cannot promise though.i have so many ideas!
Thank you for going a step further with your explanation of how to use cling film in many different ways 🙏
My pleasure!
Thank you Liz. The purple picture had me thinking of a flower on the left and a butterfly type bug on the right. Very interesting.
You are so welcome!
The textures created are super.Think the leaf looks print lie, gorgeous results. Thanks. As you say great for backgrounds.

Hiya Liz, The first reveal would be a great back/mid ground for a painting of ferns or undergrowth. Thanks very much x
OOh, it would be beautiful!

Glad you like them! It is a really useful effect, though I don't like single use plastic!

@@LizChadertonStudio does the cling film technique work on canvas too?
@@nicolefraser8895 yes it works very well, but takes ages to dry as the canvas isn’t that absorbent
@@LizChadertonStudio thank you, I’ll have a go. This heat is probably a good time to try!
@@nicolefraser8895 yes. Everything will be drying fast!
You just made the cling wrap thing _actually_ _useful_ instead of a stupid novelty
that is the best comment. just using any technique because you ca, ends up as a cliche. it needs to bring something to the painting.
