How do you render Japanese skin tones? I don’t want my renderings to go “flat” or muddy.

Hey Jamesha that's a great question! I have a short answer for you as well was a more in-depth explanation from Kevin. The short answer is that there is no such thing as "Japanese skin tones" - simply because skin tones can change drastically under whatever lighting scenario the person is in, as well as the environment that the person is in. And so, rather than trying to find the perfect mixture of "Japanese skin tones," you'll want to train your ability to see and match colors for what they truly are, under the lighting scenario and the environment specifically for the painting you are working on. For example, if you try to use the same palette you mixed of a Japanese person outdoors under direct sunlight at 3pm, compared to that person's friend (who may have a slightly different complexion) under an overcast sky at 10am in the morning, you would find that the skintones you mixed for the Japanese person under sunlight at 3pm would simply not work for their friend at 10am in an overcast environment. Even if you are working with studio lighting equipment and you change the lights from 4000K to 5000K, the skintones would be different. So, don't focus your attention on finding the "perfect fleshtones," but instead get trained on being able to see and gain a command of colors for any subject matter in any environment.
Kevin explains this in much more depth in this video here - I've put a timestamp on the link so it will take you straight to the topic and a visual example: ruclips.net/video/UTs5O1ZyJ3Q/видео.html

There is no such a thing as Japanese skin tone. Observe what you see and paint it. You do that every single time you paint. See and analyze (shape, color, high chroma, low chroma, light, shadows ) those always change through out the surface of any skin.
