    Hey Matthew, just wanted to say thanks for all the videos. They have been a life saver. Got diagnosed with FND (functional neurological disorder last year. It has been a journey but I'm back in the shop and made 3 trees to give to family. It was suppose to be just therapy for me. Ended up selling 7 the next day when my wife posted the pictures. Everytime I was getting depressed I would watch another video. Thanks for all you do

    Matthew, there are usually many similar ways to make the same kind of craft. When I see them popping up all over RUclips, I skip them and look on YOUR channel. I know I’ll always find the absolute best way to make it. You never start out by using some tool I’ll never afford and you talk to 99% percent of your viewers. And at a pace we can easily follow. If I could only watch one woodworking channel it would be yours! I hope this gives you some idea of how much I appreciate your time and love of teaching at my level.

I can see making a ton of these in my free time throughout the year and then setting up shop at farmers markets or something and making a killing. Actually idk if you have any videos on it, but covering good spots to sell or ways market yourself (besides the common facebook pages and such) would be a good video in itself. I'm sure some people would place orders online or social media, but these are probably great impulse buys too if you target the right places.

      So I made both the 3ft and 7ft versions and found that a long strip of the same cut board with double stick tape attached vertically across the strips makes the able to stay flat while storing and easier to transport. I like them not being locked in place after spiraling cuz then you lose the customizable option of how much to spiral it.

  • @davenelson4553

      I drilled a hole in the top centre down into the dowel. Then a screw from the top into the dowel. Tightened just enough to keep the spiral while transporting.

    Ive been looking for a few projects to bring in some extra money, and I am thrilled to see this one. I think I'll build some of these and see what kind of response I get. I'm excited cuz I think it's cool, and I can see profit in it. Thanks for the great video! 🌞

    I made these last year as outdoor decorations. Made 5 in different sizes and made a reindeer family for in front of them. I thought it looked great. I might string light around them this year.

    Hi Matthew. How do you stop the pieces from spinning? I make wind spinners the same way but use threaded rod and tighten firmly so they don't spin. Great projects, I'l be building these for sure.

      @MatthewPeechWoodworking  Год назад +4

      The small ones are a tight fit because the hole and the dowel are both 5/8”… and the large one doesn’t spin bc of the weight of the ones above it. The further up on the big tree they can spin but it’s still requires a little force to do so. I hope that makes sense.

      @@MatthewPeechWoodworking Probably still doesn't hurt to put a little glue on, right? I wonder if one could ship the smaller one.

      @@dkpianist The beauty in this design is at the end of the Holiday season, you fold them flat & stow away. Once you glue, you are “stuck” with storing it away in that mode.

    I'm super excited to build the 3 foot one to start, but I wanted to know how you got the grain to pop on the finished ones. Did you use an oil or varnish? Has anyone stained them? I would think a poly finish would make them more difficult to turn

    Thank you for sharing this. I was able to build one with a drill and circular saw due to not having a table saw. Not perfect especially when not in the spiral but in the spiral looks good (in my opinion). Thank you for making the videos where someone like me who doesn't have great knowledge can build something!!

    Thanks for sharing this. I'm going to start on some today. My marketing skills are not that great, but I have done some other projects, and just gave them to friends, then I end up making some to sell.
    I am a long time carpenter, and I am just now starting to only work in the shop. Thanks again, I will definitely be following you.👍

    Your son reminded me of myself when I was younger. My grandad was like the master of everything, my dad and uncles are master of one skill each (electrician, plumber, woodworker and welder) but each good at all. As a kid I would work between them all aspiring to be my grandad. I always chose the tools over toys, from as early as 5 I can remember id rather build the ramp for my bike than jump it.
