  • This is the first time assembling a gazebo. In this video I show you the good and the bad. Mistakes I made that cost me hours of extra labor. Anyone can do this, it just may take you longer than someone experienced.

    By myself I have 4 hours in to unbox, inventory, lay out by the numbers, and build the base structure. Roof panels tomorrow.
    I’m going to use 2x10s to wrap the base of the posts. The gazebo is only 7’6”. I want to lift it to an even 8’. And I will use this to level as my patio slopes away from the house.
    Follow the instructions! Best advice ever! They are well written!!

    I'm planning to put one of these on my patio. Thanks for the tips. Showing us your mistakes was very valuable. Mistakes provide education, education prevents mistakes. 👍
    I think I may look into adding some sort of drip edge. Maybe before the metal roof panels are attached. I intend to add gutters to mine to channel water to the sloping part of my backyard for drainage, and to prevent the water from soaking the wood every time it rains. Even cedar has it's limits.
    I also plan to add 1 or two coats of stain/preservative to all the wood pieces, individually before assembly. I'll stage them on sawhorses and buckets, then stain and organize them. I'm doing it myself. (my wife will help me when needed) I'm retired, so if it takes me 1 week (or 2 or 3) to put it together...I don't care. 🤷‍♂

    Thanks for the video, it was helpful to see before I started. Just finished the project with my son. Took us about 20 hours. Had issues with some warped wood and holes not lining up, so we had to drill some of our own holes. Spent too much time peeling the blue wrap on all the other pieces, the roof panels were easy to peel. We used the app and the paper directions. The paper had some helpful tips, and the app allows you to zoom and turn to get a better look. ****Tip. Do not bend or pry the roof pieces to try and line up the pilot holes, it will tweak it and will not line up.

    • @lukesturbo
      @lukesturbo 2 месяца назад +1

      No you should definitely put it on but put the facia flashing piece under the roof panel. That is how it is done when building a home. The instructions are 100% wrong on this topic. It's okay to put it under the roof panel. It's a drip edge essentially 😊

    • @utubehandyman

    Great video man. Appreciate it! Question on securing it. I know it comes with brackets to bolt it down. Did you bolt directly to the pavers? I’m sure it’s pretty darn heavy but thinking securing it would be best. Would it be heavy enough if my location doesn’t have the pavers down yet? And if so, when I do go add pavers how hard with it be to move back and forth?

    For the roof panels, did you cut the purlins to be flush with the roof? I'm actually building this thing right now, and my purlins extend past about 5/8" which the instructions said is fine. But in your video they look to be flush.

    • @utubehandyman
      @utubehandyman  Год назад +1

      lol I feel your pain brother!. So the 5/8 overhang is for the flashing piece that goes in last. It slides under the roof panel and on top of those side trusses. It just gives you something to screw the flashing piece into. It doesn't have to be precise, it could be a bit shorter or longer. Once everything is done and assembled even if it looks jacked up, the final flashing piece that goes over will cover that area lol.
