WHY DO PEOPLE FEEL THEY NEED TO COVER AND HIDE THE UNITS OUTSIDE ARE THEY THAT UGLY FROM THE STREET TO BE ASHAMED FROM BEING SEEN I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THE WAY PEOPLE THINK ON THIS SO A BIG OVERGROWN BUSH DOES THE JOB
The covered up unit is way too common. I've seen quite a few of them. My favorite was a lady who didn't want her ugly unit to be visible from the road and had a fence built right against the unit. She couldn't understand why the unit wasn't cooling until the tech took down the panel that was against the coil and it miraculously started cooling. He had to explain that the unit had to have enough space for airflow to work and show her the specifications for clearance for airflow and servicing.
Slap me across the face, but I would replace the contactor, replace the nasty looking cap, clean out the box and clean the condenser coils... But then I heard you say that you're going to put a new unit in. Glad you went through the effort to pull apart the bad contactor to see what was wrong.
I'm surprised contactors last as long as they do. Homeowner needs to be advised that bush that seems to want to be a tree needs pruned accordingly...or removed. Good call as usual by Ted. No upsales....just fix it.
Those HS18's were really good basic builder units. I worked on a lot of them earlier in my career in NJ. They were hard to kill, kinda like the old Rheem 10 SEER units with the scroll compressors in the 90's.
I thought I saw a Dead Thing on the right side of that contactor. You need a MPX for your favorite toys; I think it would give you room for some pruning shears as well!
I carry a pair of mid size limb loppers in my van for just that situation. I've never had a customer say no to taking out a limb or 10 when they find out it's going to kill their compressor staving it for air like that. They always say "do what you want as long as the AC works".
Those HS16 HS18 last a long time. Those came out back in the 80s. R22 units. So are you selling A2L units to get on board with the new 25 rules? Easy simple call. Enjoy your wknd and Happy 4th my friend.
Back in my HVAC days, went to service a home for sale with 4 units, could not see two of them because of the fauna! Home was for sale for 1million dollars, you just never know...
Had a straight air Lennox just like that at my late grandparents home from 1986 till just a few weeks ago. Indoor coil was leaking and the compressor was about dead. Sounded terrible but kept going.
2:27 Ted you know there’s a difference between bending back and just out-right broken! I would’ve gotten my Milwaukee M-18 loppers out and trimmed that tree so that it looked like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree afterward!
One thing I hate about Bugs. I had to clean my contactor a few times because of bugs. mostly Ants. I turn off power and clean it out and up and running again. sometimes they clime down and when its pulled in it cant go all the way in because of the ants. If only they made them where bugs couldn't get to the contacts or under the coil.
4:40 I don’t watch the whole video and then go back. I make comments as I go along, so as you can clearly see folks the nut holding the conduit bushing in is sitting on top of the wire inside the cabinet and that’s not where it goes, of course so I hope he will fasten that nut back onto the threads of the bushing for the conduit and “make it right” as Mike Holmes and I both would say!
Happy Birthday Ted 🥳👌

I did my daughters the same thing with a capacitor . She appreciates her dad. I made her do the work and I watched.

Where I am the ants seem to love contactors! They fry themselves between the contacts.
Oh my… Ted broke out the power tools

The plastic nut was unscrewed off inside the cabinet for the service line whip; I thought that you would reposition that and tighten it up.
My OCD was shouting at the screen "Don't forget the whip!
Well, Ted it ain’t the units fault that the owner of the home keeps it covered up with the dang Bush
Isn't it sad how totally stupid some home owners are? 😮
The owner of the home really got a lot of years out of this Lennox I bet in fall that unit gets full of leafs great video and happy birthday Ted
That unit was put in when I was graduating high school. 😎👍
Thanks SIWMSAK !!
the overgrown shrubs help maintain head pressure right?
I always enjoy your videos.
Bet the new Trane won't go under a tree!
Would it not be easier and safer to move one wire at a time from the old to the new contactor?
Happy Birthday Theodore 🇨🇦🎂👍
Is there an American made relay brand for air conditioning? Please let me know

Is the capacitor installed upside down 🙃?

Gotta say Ted that’s a nifty little flashlight ya got there. Amascam here I come!
Back in my HVAC days, went to service a home for sale with 4 units, could not see two of them because of the fauna! Home was for sale for 1million dollars, you just never know...
At least you had some shade to work in.
Take a picture of those wires and make sure you get them back correctly.
That's what the DIY videos tell me! LOL

My contactors get bugs in them all the time for some reason.
Yes Ted, some of that tree needs trimming but it gave you some shade.
Thanks for the video! See ya next time!

sawzall. lol
Happy birthday to you ted cook🎉❤🎂🎂🍾
At least it wasn’t poison ivy.
Good little vid Ted ... Thx
Note to all manufacturers: How about an isolation switch near the contactor on the low voltage side? Sure would help out techs from blowing fuses…🤷♂️
Geesh I remember most of those brand new. They sure have gotten their money’s worth like most did out of those units. 👍👍
I'm not in love with that capacitor
But I understand customer budget requests
Just had my contactor staying pulled in...
Looks like you guys just hid the old unit in the bushes honestly
Shoal did !!
I always made sure people kept the brush cut back 24 inches away from the units
Happy Birthday from us Yankees in Mass.
Happy birthday🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Lacka maintenance mama! -Steve Lav
Why dosn't the home owner trim/cut back that bush to allow you and that A/C to have improved air flow 🤔 Au
The HOA made them bury the condenser out of sight.🤦♂️🤣
Commies r everywhere 😂
Gonna have to add pruning shears to your tool kit

“We’re gonna find out.”
That’s the channel’s motto 🤓
Service charge plus Land scape charge service 😅
I was hoping you tighten nut holding main power cable into the unit. It was so clearly visible. Other then that you are pro.
CHARGE EXTRA FOR TRIMMING TREES
Uncle ted forget stream light go O light! Stream copied the o light original.
You bout messed up Ted and than you would have been changing a fuse
Happy birthday

He can ignore you and I will keep watching..
Did you know mike?
Nice shady spot
No helicopter 🚁
Take a picture of the wires
The area should be cleared of debris so your viewers can actually see what it is you’re doing
Can you still get a xr11. ?
