Loved watching Hingis in full flight. Such a talented ball striker. Which before the string and racquet technologies is even more impressive. To have that depth, control. Could hit any shot in the book 🤟
The fact that monica is not 100% fit for yrs and still have amazing runs in different tournaments just shows her determination and grit.

Sadly a pattern for Monica she'd had for a couple of years where she got a good win and then couldn't follow it up and lost in the next round:
1998: Beat Hingis at French Open then lost to ASV
1999: Beat Graf at Australian Open then lost to Hingis
2000: Beat Capriati at US Open then lost to Hingis
2002: Beat Venus Williams then lost to Hingis
Capriati was not a big win in 2000.

Seles really nice to take time to sign many autograph when she just lost a great match. She could have won. But Seles post stabbing was an eternal number 6 ranking 😕
Only for the cameras. She turned up her nose at me because i was an asian kid and did a “x” in my autograph book instead of a real autograph.

Great job again by Australian Open TV. They and US Open Champiohips are incredible. And, oh my gosh. Wimbledon are yet again so stingy, not a single archive match since summer 2020. They think the players play for them, not the public.

Hingis was so fit here and fast...Monica was not in great shape but still pushed Martina to 3 sets.
Can you imagine how Great Monica would have been if she did not leave the tour because of that horrible attack?
So much talent and potential in this two, both of them could easy got 20 GS if there was not personal problems and incidents
I am not sure about 20 Slams for Hinggis. Most likely not because she had to compete with Serena and a bunch of other power players on the tour....but she should have won at least 7 or 8 Slams. Three slams final she lost where she was the heavy favorite. And then her drug problems really took a toll on her Singles tennis career during the 2000s. I would say around 10 Slams she could have won if the situation were better.

Seles game relied on brute strength and was a perversion of the beautiful game.
Aside from which she had an ugly personality. I remember being court-side when i was a kid and she turned up her nose at me and did a squiggle in my open magazine instead of a full autograph.
