Great to see Mark out there , although this video is 10 years old this is one of the best and personal peace talks I have heard in a long time. I admire his courage to over win his shame and guilt. Also his work regarding Freud and the mind brings a more updated view of human sciences. You can't step away from the truth. In this world where we live together our relationships are distorted. I am from Ireland and I live in the Netherlands and have always been interested in history. On my travels I see injustice happening everyday, few don't want to be confrontated .
What a pity the farm became a flagship for transformation failure and lost it's investors $15million. A complete disaster and hastened by 'well intended' government intervention. It never made a $'s profit.
A friend sent me Mark's book The Hidden Spring and I thought I'd see if there are any videos about the book and came across this one. It is not connected with the book though has inspired me in holding the writer in mind, I was deeply moved.
Hi Mark, I'm Craig, born in Cape Town, been living in New Zealand for about 20 years, was watching your dream topic section, but got drawn in to the wine farm story, I am a son of a fair-skinned man born in District 6,married to a so called coloured lady, my mum, I've known good and bad people in all the races, but you are probably the first time, sorry to say, seeing a so called "white "landowner and highly educated, obviously strong willed, man,so humble and actually truly caring, though would like to think there are others, I think as interesting as neuroscience is, the natural good feeling of caring and love is a beautiful science too, as for why I first noticed your talk, just curious, did any of your studies hint at the possibility of deja vu, type dreams, besides the possible mind creating etc dreams, the idea that once in a while, you remember a dream so clearly but something you saw makes it impossible to have been self created, so very strange, almost like a 6th sense, crazy huh
Unfortunately i can't either hearing and understand nothing because the audio quality is bad and, also, there are no subtitles. All your comment are totaly useless
I agree he's very clever and convincing. But I - in my ignorance perhaps - thought that critics of Freud's psychoanalytic approach, pointed out that his case studies were very limited in number and so could not be generalised upon. In addition, there have been allegations that he actually manipulated some of his material to suit his hypotheses. I wish the interviewer had raised these allegations because, if they are totally scurrilous, I would really like to know that.
Regardless, he is almost the only South African, in this region that has done anything tangible to correct the wrongs. If it wasn't for Denmark maybe 5 years ago, if not less, farmers would still pay there workers alcohol rather than money. Very little has been done to change the realities of people in this region, and I take my hat off to him.
Thank you for posting this beautiful speech. Now I admire Dr. Solms even more, his brilliant intervention is a great inspiration.
