Let me just say, there is nothing better than getting home from work and seeing an hour+ long video from VGG. Just what I need to relax. Thanks for producing such good, long content!!
Wow, thanks!
I couldn't agree more.
@@ViceGripGarage Derek aka world heavyweight champion of blippity-booops lightning whirlers and doohikky's and cold snacks 😂🏆
Was just thinking to myself a new VGG video would be great right now and found this in my notification bar right after, a guy couldn't ask for more
You need to change it up and body swap that on a 90s s10 blazer chassis
Hey Derek! My oldest brother who has recently passed away would always talk about your channel!! He loved watching your videos! I started watching around 3 months ago you and your family are awesome! I just wanted you to know that your videos have helped me through the worst parts!! Your love for not only cars but your family makes me feel like getting out to the shop a bit more! Thanks for doing what you do!!!
He makes me want to go on a field search NOW. Greatest channel ever. Can listen to him for days
My condolences for your brother.
Hey Tim , it’s tough loosing brothers I’ve lost three and yes Derek is like therapy for me. He is grounded and brings me back to reality and that life can kick you in the ass it hurts but the goes away but not for long. Your in my thoughts and prayers my boy. Mark
My condolences.🙏🙏🙏
In the midst of your grief you can be thankful that you had a brother that you mourn losing... Lost my brother in 2018. Only 2 years separated us, but we couldn't have been further apart...
My dad passed away about 5 years ago. He would have loved your channel. He grew up in the Depression and had learn how to fix things with whatever was available. He took pride in a grey 2wd Chevy that had some "weight reduction areas" that he "fixed" with grey duct tape and spray paint. He was also proud that the rims on the passenger side didn't match the rims on the driver side. He just liked driving his old pickup. Didn't care a bit about what anyone thought. He and my Mom grew up in North Dakota so I know all about "Uff-da", also! 😊
The whole headliner ordeal was hilarious! But seriously, any video from Derek always lightens the mood and makes you feel more positive about things
That's so true! Anytime you feel little sad, just watching a video or two from Derek really heightens the mood :P
Whoever's reading this, i pray that whatever you're going through gets better and whatever you're struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! Amen
Pray THIS, as Richard Pryor would say.
Derrick I know you may not see this. But these videos, this channel, your personality and how you interact with your family and everyone have gotten me through some tough times. Including now. I truly appreciate it.
Keep your chin up bub. Been through a few hard tough times myself. I'm just a fellow VGG fan and couldn't agree more. But keep being positive. Hang in there and have a relaxing evening with VGG Family.
@@FinalFinishDetail thanks a lot. You are definitely a kind fella and I really appreciate it
@@Lazerchicken69 anytime bub.
@@DoctorHayduke doesn't sound like horse lucky at all. Sounds great and I'm glad to read it thank you sir
Yes Derek's videos are great for helping someone get through some rough times. I'm going through rough times myself currently and there are times when an emotional lift me up is vital. In fact, his videos including some that are pretty old, and some videos from a few very select others where on RUclips, have been priceless and have been helping immensely with my healing and recovery for most of the last 3 months of hell, and I credit those select few channels with my progress on relearning how to walk again. (I made a phone holder that fits on my walker so I can watch and increase my determination to succeed at walking because being able to walk and stand is the only way I can get back to being able to work on a couple of car projects of mine.
Dereks closing words at the end of the video... that's a real motivation speech. I replayed that 10 times... he's right, how many projects never start or finish just because someone can't afford to make it look or run like a car that's had 10's of thousands of dollars dumped into it. I know that's prevented me in the past every time, I didn't have the money so why start it?
Too many projects start with a guy blowing it apart and never getting it put back together. With my 53 Plymouth I fixed it up as I was driving it. It’s on the back burner now but will be fixed up again once other projects are further along
I had 2 1951 packards,this video brings back memories.
Definitely the highlight of the week. Not too much better than sitting back with a cold snack and one of my little humans who is starting to really get into your videos.
Thanks for watching
@@ViceGripGarage ,there’s a 73.97865868689787% chance that next video ,a guy is gonna pull one straight outta Compton and slam it and rebuild it.
As a certified welder now for 20 years , I can verify those are quality, solid welds on the floor pan repairs !
Agreed. We rat rod builders use a lot of license plates for body and floor work. Part of the trans tunnel on my 41 Ford “The Beast” is license plates and more will go into the Jeep rat I’m building now
Derek, this episode was the “Bob Ross” of automotive paint jobs! Thanks for the entertainment & inspiration!!!
Your powder coating and re-chroming processes are revolutionary. Thanks for giving me the courage to take on some things!
Derek could murder puppies on this channels and you simps would suck him off. Never see 1 simple constructive suggestion. You didnt notice the last 1/2 of the vid was eddited to 2 min?!?
thanks for starting my Friday night off right!
Thanks Derrick for making me laugh out loud enough for the Mrs. to ask what's so funny. 😂😂
Derek is the Bob Ross of clear coating. His voice and demeaner Channel Bob at his best. And as I'm typing this, he pulls out the happy little tree phrase....
I think he's just the automotive equivalent of Bob Ross
Love this Packard Derek. I was afraid when you lowered the front it would ride rigid but it didn’t. Love the tires and wheels combo couldn’t ask for anything better.
Have a Blessed One Sir
I’ve been struggling with depression an anxiety for the better part of my life. Besides seeing my kids and family nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than an upload for VGG. You have taught me alot about cars and trucks over the past 3 years I’ve been subscribed to your channel. You have ignited a passion for old beat up rigs that I never thought I’d have. Thank Derek for all your work god bless.
HI Mate, I`m in my seventies, I have a friend same age who last year unexpectedly became the victim of depression, anxiety and forgetfulness, a guy who is financially secure, outwardly seems happy and contented with his lot but unfortunately not the case, he is on the improve over the past few months, I trust you are coping well and have your position under control. I have never written anything like this before but I just wanted to say, I wish you well. Cheers
I've suffered with it for over 10 years now, I'm not lying when I say Saturday morning with Derek and the family is always a bright point in the week. Never fails to make me laugh and raises my spirit, what a guy.
Hey mate, I struggle too because of my disability and PTSD. But keep going, push through, and every time you defeat the demons that attack be proud that you have accomplished something. Don't let anyone say they know how you feel because they don't, I don't because I am not you. Be proud of everything you accomplish no matter how small. Cheers from Australia my friend.
RIGHT ON MY FRIEND. KEEP UP THE AWSOME PROGRESS. I LOVE HEARING STORIES LIKE THIS. THE POWER OF POSITIVITY IS INFECTIOUS. REMEMBER THERES A WHOLE FAMILY OF SUPPORT HERE FOR YA
Brother, there is help for that. you aren't alone. Im not a "meds" guy, I resisted as long and hard as I could, but with the RIGHT Dr. (that's the hardest part) you can find your light again. KEEP PUSHING, it will happen. ✌🏼
Derek just keeps on coming through for a fella week after week. Thank you and the family for all that you do.
Our pleasure!
Hey Derek love your show i like that you are a family man and include your boys and wife in your clips. Look forward to watching new material keep being who you are dont change anything . Really like the jeep always wanted one .
I love how you go 100% on 50%. Keep rollin.
For me every episode of VGG that Derek airs is like a shot in the arm, the messages of encouragement and positivity really help boost a guy's morale to keep plugging away even during the roughest of times. I don't think a person could hire a better therapist or motivational speaker.
Well said
Got stuck on you with the white cadillac, now I look forward to every friday. Man you caught lightning in a bottle, please dont let Motor Trends change who you are, in my opinion, they need you more than you need them. Keep on keeping on Derek, the best to you and your family.
Absolutely love Derek's positivity in all his videos. It helps me look at things differently, not just with cars but in life. Thank you so much!
Really enjoy watching Derek and the videos.
There are so many reasons that I love this channel. Derek makes a guy believe in hisself. And most of us have budgets so it’s nice too see a guy just getting after it and not just firing the parts cannon at it
Derek, at the end of the day I am SO greatful to see a new video show up. You probably do not know how much seeing a new video means to us viewers!! This is exactly what I needed today after a long week. Thank you!
Dude, There is nothing finer while doing nonsense on my lappy top and drinking a strong old cider than having your videos on in the background on the television set.
Thank you for posting long videos of just general car stuff the younger enthusiasts just starting out can learn so much from this kind of content.
Wahoo!!!, so excited to finally see your plans for this ol rig. Keep up the great videos Derek and family. To my VGG Nation family, cheers to a happy safe Friday evening.
Wow Derek, I REALLY LIKE your '52 Packard! I'm happy you're running the straight 8. Those old engines have a sound that can't be duplicated.
I'm new here. I like old classic cars now more than ever. I don't know exactly why but it's growing on me. With all the stupid stuff going on this helps take me mind off of things. I just want to learn more and more and would like to have a place and space to do something like this. One day I will.
Do you think if someone mentions catalytic converter in the VGG, they'll be sent to stand in the naughty corner.
Derek Man" The One of the coolest thing I've Ever Seen Is The Packard's Shift Lever with That Little Bend Near the End Nob That Is Real Class". Thanks You Are A Magical Man!!!
So refreshing seeing home grown projects the majority of us can relate to and do on our own. I can't watch any more shows taking a 2 year old truck and putting $40000 in new parts into it. Way to go Derek!
Hey Derek actually really honored you used my NJ Law Enforcement memorial plate .... especially since i just retired earlier this month. Love your channel !!!
That was a cool donation, Henry! From ORI 781
Hey Dirk my name is Bill love your show don't forget the detail engine bay this time make such a big difference
Those last 2 mins are the best words that can be spoken in the hotrod world..!!>.get out and enjoy and have fun !!!!!! Love all your vids Derek !!
This is going to probably be one of my favorite videos. This is real. Real down-home fun. Brings back good memories. Thank you, Derek!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Derek, the car is "70 YEARS OLD"!!!!!!!! A carburetor and brakes, maybe all the rubber, and its still a running TANK without a turret! Truly amazing! Packard is an amazing machine as well.
Packards are badass cars!! Wish Studebaker didn't screw them over when they bought them in the mid 50s
This is what we love about your show. Drive them!! They dont have to be perfect...make some memories!
I love watching your videos I sit at work and home watching them every chance I get
Hey Derek, a guys 15 years old and absolutely loves your vid’s. I look forward every Friday to the posts. You’ve even got me restoring a 73 f100. Appreciate your videos and personality a ton.
How does a 15 year old kid own a 50 year old pickup truck? 😂 when I was 15 I was playing with my neighbors kids bicycling all over the place
@@rubenbraekman4515 I bad a 67 GTO at 15, hid from my folks at a friends farm. Bought two more 60's at 16 and my fourth at 17. All junkets mostly. Still have that first one though 42 years later.
@@miragesmack007 what the heck 😂 with what money?? At 15 I had 10 bucks to my name from mowing my grandparents grass hahaha
Hold onto that truck. A guy got bit by the bug at 10 helping my Dad work on his 51 truck and we found a 64 c10 for 1k when I was 13 and a guys dad gave him the truck and said if you wanna drive you better know how to work on them and I've still got her 18 years later
PERFECTION!!! Love the Patina, the wheels and tires look amazing! Never thought I would want a 52' Packard, now I'm looking for one! Love it!!
Another nice Packard is the 49 Packard super deluxe. It also has the straight 8. Be careful when buying Packards as parts are very hard to find, so try snd get a running n driving one if you don't want to have a scavenger hunt for a few years to find whats missing
Packard brothers started in my hometown of Warren, Ohio before moving to Detroit. They built some beautiful cars.
These ae the kinds of cars that I dig.. You get that nostalgic feel when you drive them without all the panic that one might get scratched.. A man can enjoy it.
For anybody that plans to remove their headliner and hopefully replace it some day with a new one - each of those bows in the headliner have a unique position in the car. Most of the time, they aren't labeled where they go, so be sure to label each of them so that they go back in the right spot.
That's not ''level 12 mouse housage'' that's asbestos...
@@hifiteen49 Can't tell by looking at it with your peeps, takes a microscope and special filters to do that or TEM. It is very unlikely, however.
Asbestos...sniff...nope. 🤷♂️👌🏻👍🏻😎🏴☠️
@@hifiteen49 it's not asbestos, it's a heavy roofing felt that's used as a sound deadener and insulation. It's no where near any high heat, why would they use asbestos?!
Derek you really know how to bring heavy metal alive. Nice job! Born in a garage and treading around for 75 years I am amazed I learn something new from you every episode. Thanks….
Wow, thanks!
@@ViceGripGarage I think that's some spiritual enlightenment right there Derek, you are officially a Guru!
And humble as can be!
The day we stop learning is the day we will be standing at some sort of gates!
I absolutely love the kids pretending in your Chevelle! I sid that in my parents 1970 Buick Sport Wagon (Skylark). Fantastic job on the Packard and the free lessons.
unreal just when i think i learned all the tricks you show me a free lowering kit. Nice job on the car. looks great
Thank you
Man Derek you have been kicking out some killer content thanks for the video's ! With no floors and the muffler delete you will need a gas mask to drive it .
Packard has been one of my favorite brands forever. Their engineering prowess, plus the WW2 effort is legendary
Have you ever checked out the old Packard plant in Detroits east side? It is a very interesting place even in its decay. Packard also was first to design n build a multi level assembly plant due to Albert Kahn and his super strong support pillars. Shame Studebaker cooked the books when they bought them in the mid 50s
I'm glad I found this channel, I sadly just inherited my dad's 2nd gen dakota and it wasn't the truck he had the longest but his last truck. I've been working on some of the rust underneath and learned some great tricks from here. It feels to much sometimes but it's sentimental to me. Keep up the amazing work!
Hey Derek, love your channel, your family is awesome, I love the way you work with your kids.
Been watching VGG for years now and I love going back and watching the older episodes now and seeing how he’s went from humble beginnings to such an awesome shop now I wouldn’t believe but I got too cause I’m looking right at it!! Great work Derek
As a NJ law enforcement officer and huge fan of the channel. I fully approve of that plate placement!
I love this Packard build don't see a lot of them so it's pretty cool to see one. Every car is unique and has a story it's our job to bring that out, whether we have lots of money to stick into a rig or not a lot either way it's still art.
Very nice job on the old Lead Sled. Got to love the early 50's. The Straight Eights were a unique breed you don't see often now-a-days.
All I can say is WOW! I'm stoked about the clear coat wipe on patina preserver stuff...man that's a game changer right there! And I clicked the link to check the price.....and while an old school Scottish cheap skate such as myself was initially thinking "OMG!" that's steep...on reflection, in todays' world we're talking serious bargain here! Love the channel son (yeah I'm old enough that I got kids older than you so like the old timers you used to call me son...you're in there). Sending love to you and the fam son!
VGG and Derek and his whole family. It’s not just about cars. The way he keeps his keep it simple attitude. This outro nearly brought me to tears. Because I’m on the road to getting my car running. I have my 5yo daughter who’s never even seen my old Camino run. It’s just great motivation and lessons every episode. Truly grateful for this channel.
Some things never change! We used D/A sanders and prep-sall 50 years ago. I love the new stuff too! Great video!
God bless, Visegrip garage!
Amazing how some ingenuity and a little elbow grease can really improve the look of a car. Always impressed with the rigs you spiff up.
Love these classic rigs. I wish we could still get straight 8s. A guy can't thank you enough for making all these amazing videos.
I wish we could still get straight 8s, this was also my 1st thought and they last Obviously unlike modern junk that wont last 15 years.
Duesy!
I think one of the biggest flaws was the overly long crankshaft limits it's potential somewhat, but if modern metalurgy could fix that, then you need to be able to design a car that can accomodate that long of an engine. That said, any car that has one is instantly cool.
I really love that Packard now. That's a real nice car. I'm glad you were able to save it.
Cold tall one and some mozzarella sticks, vicegrip on the phone screen and recliner... now that's a Sunday afternoon for ya.
You are the Bob Ross of these rigs hands down. Thanks for the best content that I have never missed a second of on RUclips!
Wow, i had no idea packard made a 52 foot straight 8. Very cool.
Your motto of "Get out there and enjoy it" has been a huge inspiration to all of my projects, especially my Fiero. The paint ain't pretty, it burns oil, the interior is rough, but it never hesitates to go. I had originally planned a full restoration all at once, but life wouldn't stop getting in the way, and I finally decided I just wanted to drive it. One of the best decisions I've ever made! It's been a pretty reliable daily for almost a year now. Cars are meant to be enjoyed, no matter the condition or circumstance. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Very cool build. This is how to have fun with a budget and still end up with something decent to drive on the weekends. 🇺🇸🍻
Love the trash bag wheel paint idea. 👏🏼👏🏼
A guy sure knows how to put education and entertainment into a video with the highest levels of quality. Absolutely love it.
Very cool. That front end is reminiscent of my Dad's 53' Hudson I grew up riding around in.
Glad you brought home the Bob Ross moment. Sure felt like it when you were talking it through
I love the patina and random beauty of the old paintwork on these beautiful old barges. You’ve have done yet another amazing job on this old girl Derek!
Many thanks!
SWEET! We had a 1953 Packard Clipper when I was a kid. Coolest car my family ever had. We went with 9 passenger station wagons once the family kept growing. I loved that Packard. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Derrick! VGG, best channel out there!
Packards are epic cars!!
As much as I like the "will it runs" these vids of hangin out in the shop really are my favorite. Pop yourself a cold snack and it's like you're right there! Thanks VGG team!
Derek I just want to thank you for all the joy you bring in these videos
You're going to make a fortune on that shine juice.
So very pleased to see genuinely lovely people do well. Congrats fella.
If he actually created it yes, I just hope he hasn't just rebranded a generic product which is the most likely situation. Can't blame a fella but I do hate to see him selling out.
@@Teredifa I just don't think he's wired that way. Best scenario is he showed his mix to some chemists and told them what he wanted. I hear you though, I just think his morals are pretty solid. Time may prove me wring, but I hope not. I don't want to be watching "The TRUTH behind the criminal life of VICE GRIP GARAGE" someday on youtube.
I would be sad.
Derek thanks for the awesome content over the years brother! I showed this channel to my brother over Christmas, and he got so into it he's finally helping my dad with his '67 Chevelle. I spent a number of years wrenching with my dad where I could, but to hear my pops tell me with excitement my brother is getting into it too was really a joy to hear. My brother calls you the Bob Ross of auto channels, and I really think that sums you up. It's fun to watch, thanks and keep it up!
I think it turned out great. I definitely like this look over the perfect shiny high dollar restorations you usually see at car shows!
I’d walk past a bunch of shiners to spend time checking this out at a show
Great message from Derek at the end. So so so True.
What a transformation! Nothing like an old rig still kicking around town
Like seeing an old guy at the gym
I’m not much of a car person, only know some of the basics. However I love this channel, the humor, family values and just the hard work ethic. I never miss an episode. Also LOVE how long the episodes are.
Shes beautiful I love tht ride Ive been binge watch the old VGG what a great job you do with these gems thanks alot Derek really helps a fella out in a dark corner.😊
Man, you have a good talent for picking the right wheels thats for sure.
Thanks
That thing came out fantastic!! Absolute perfect choice for the wheel and tire combo. What a sweet rig it turned out to be. Congrats on the shine juice products also.👍
Thanks 👍
One of your best looking cars yet. Good find.
Thanks
Would you apply anything underneath to keep rust out?
Derrick just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoy 😊 All of your videos and it has inspired me to get working on my old 1952 Chevrolet pick up truck so thank you very much
Derek I am the fan of your show, since I am retired, I fixed everything in the house garage.
Now I hope something else breaks down in the house or even a appliance.
This one actually brought a tear to my eyes.
“Mustoff been a dustoff .. “
Another one for the books. Long ways from the Camaro in the garage.
110% earned and deserved .
✌️
Wish more car guys thought like you with your style here. Well done. Preserving patina the best way. Good reminding people; you don’t have to put a ton on money into an old car. It is often better as a survivor with the bumps and bruises that show individuality. And that is the stuff people notice. Allows more conversation, and there is no comparing of individuality 👍🏼
That car rocks! Nice style, nice stance, color is what it is but WOW!
That Packard looks darn good for what it is.
I learned to be a shade tree mechanic from my dad. When he passed in 2001 I brought home a 65 Monterey convertible that was rough. The only saving grace was good floors and good trunk. Put in a good solid year of work and built a nice cruiser. Watching you do your Roadworthy Rescues reminds me of all the same tricks I used back then. Still have and drive the Merc to this day. God Bless you and your family and all the people you inspire.
‘65 Monterey convertible? No wonder you are happy!
That's a cool car. Reminds me of a Chrysler imperial. Big long lined car, ride like a cloud.
Really great content again..love the "cost less" building's .and your dry sense of humor haha..relevating is key lol..for the tires i use at home my big vise..to pop it of the edge, with 2 pieces of small plank's to protect the tire, works great for painting..great build again derek..greetings from the netherlands, europe..
I'm not always 100% on board with your wheels and tires selection, but hey that's what makes car builds great. But this one..... dude, you knocked it out of the park
Hi Derek, really like your show and follow every episode and the Packard back. A lot of childhood memories because my father had a wrecking yard and one year he sold several vehicles for $50 for a demolition. Derby in the '60s and one of them was a Packard. The Packard won the demolition derby and then they had a rollover contest with it and it rolled over three times and completed the lap around the track before the radiator gave out. What a tank! 🙂
Not really a fan of patina myself, but you're definitely right about being able to appreciate the work gone into it, and it came out very nice!
You can always "unpatina" a car but you can't create real patina after it's been painted. I have an old F150 with a lot of surface rust. The plan is to scrub-pad it down then matte clear-coat. Maybe in a year or so I'll give it a new paint job.
right? its like looking at an xray full of cancer and calling it art
Well said!
@@boyracer3477 I think I would like the matte more tbh. That's definitely a great idea tho to keep the surface locked in until you decide.
Yes, loved the episode but not so much the patina. Would've preferred he removed/treated as much rust as was reasonable, applied some sort of color match paint to the larger bare metal areas, and then distressed it to a matching matte finish. Finally, apply his shine juice making the Packard look its age but with a well cared for luster.
You nailed it as usual Derek. It look awesome. Those wheels and tires made the rig.
Another adventure !
First off, the car is looking really awesome. Just think, the money you saved you can get some extra cold snacks. You've got one of the best videos on RUclips. You are a kind gentle family man. That's what makes you a great person. Keep up the great videos...
I've been watching for at least five years and I don't remember this car but that just goes to show you how much hard work and quality content Derek puts out for his viewers. Awesome video as always my friend
Well, I'll be dipped! Where are the hidden and unreleased videos hiding? The first video was only 4 years ago. I can't believe it but I'm looking right at it so I have to!
