This is probably one of my favourites. Love the De Ville. And it's a feature length video too. A guy could just get some cold snacks and get comfy and watch a guy get an old Caddy going. 😎
I'm both laughing and crying at this video. I'm a 65 year old woman, and this was our family car in 1975-1980. My father was born in 1911 and had a full service garage. He adored the engineering of Cadillacs. Thank you for caring about this wonderful old car. It's worth restoring, I think. Vice Grip Garage, you have the passion and the knowledge to do it. Plus the youth to do it. Do you think you'll restore her?
They had a live stream vehicle fleet update this past week. He mentioned the possibility of a restoration and maybe power tour next year for the Caddy..that would be cool.
@@Stahodad honestly with the amount of video hits he's gotten from that Cadillac, I think that's all the proof he needs that people want to see it happen.
Respectfully, I don't think it'll need a full restoration, it looks really straight and mostly rust free. After all mechanical/electrical repairs, weld in some patch panels on the lower front fenders maybe, match up the paint, spot repair and paint , also other small sections. Then after a deep cleaning, polish and wax and that car will look awesome and have a great story to tell wearing it's mostly original finishes/patina, which would be lost with a full resto. Retain the character, I'd say. Great car! PS: Please don't put loud mufflers on this cream puff. This thing is supposed to be nice and quiet! Well I’ve come back for a second look after a few years, now end of 2024, wow how time flies, even imported a VGG Tee shirt to “down under” Australia. Don’t know how I found VGG channel but been watching ever since EP70 and I never thought Derick would get that Caddy out of that field, but what do I know? 😜🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘p.s. Merry Christmas!
"You even could two-step on this hood all night long!" You, sir, are a poet! And of course you are the grandmaster of neologisms, replacing them with whistles when you run out of them. Most impressive. Some fearless wrenching, too, as the channel title implies.
This is why I love RUclips, a guy retrieving a seventies Caddy from a field is not something you would normally get to see, and so funny as well, subscribed.
I kept rewatching the ride home 🤣🤣🤣 imaging I'm one of the other drivers. You feel the air around you begin to rumble and wonder if there's a plane about to crash on top of you. Suddenly a loud 1970 Cadillac covered in mold goes flying past you at 90mph leaving a cloud of white smoke for miles. A few minutes later you drive past and see it sitting on the side of the road while he refills the passenger seat gas tank. Then a few miles down the interstate you hear it rumbling up behind you again 🤣🤣🤣. The little comments he's making a long the way about cops & people thinking they were gonna pass him, this is all priceless. And what he's doing seems like a noble cause as well. How could you not enjoy this.
Minnesotan, check the address in the description. Not to mention I currently live in the Great white northern hell and yup... Lots of people sound like this

It's gone 1am here in the uk and I'm watching these awesome videos. Honestly the content is quite brilliant, and the comedy timing is excellent. Having had my share of classic cars I certainly appreciate your work
Took my drivers test in a 1972 cadillac coup deville back in the early 80's. Loved that car! Grand pop used to say "jump in and lets go burn the carbon out" and we would do about 120 mph down the super highway. Good times!! Cheers!

Coming back and seeing Betty White the first time that Derek saw her and rescue her… and seeing the adventures that she has been on since and how she came back to life… it brought a tear to a fella’s peepers for a sec there…
I’m sure Betty would’ve Appreciated being compared to a Cadillac Deville. She probably drove One and her younger days.😂❤ Hey Derek, do mechanics have good insurance Medical that is?😊
Gotta be honest here Derek, I don’t really re watch RUclips videos, but this is like the 5th time I’ve watched this. What’s a feller to do when waiting for that Independence Chevelle update haha. This is certainly one of my all time favorite videos on this site. There is just something about the overcast, remote location, and your commentary that just makes a guy laugh. Thank you for these videos, they made a bad day a good day I tell ya.

2 years later and still one of my favorites. Im a sucker for big cars. Ive owned a 76 impala, 78 Coupe Deville, and a 73 Lincoln mark IV over the years. Loved um every one.
Just found this channel and it's great! I have never laughed so hard at your "backyard mechanic" antics! 🤣 The "duct tape and bailing wire" stuff reminds me of the quick and cheap repairs I learned how to do in autoshop in early 70s. My teacher was a old school mechanic and taught us how to clean out a carburetor without taking it off. You probably already know of these tricks. Spray her down the STP carburetor cleaner, vise clamp off the fuel line, run the car until the float bowels were dry, then throw 4 or 5 mothballs in the gas tank that was only about 1/4 full. Wait about 15. Release the vise grip. Crank until engine started. When the float bowels got slammed with the naphtha in the gas it would flush the needle valve and seat. Not to mention the intake valves. Another trick was for clacking hydraulic lifters. Try pouring about 8 oz of automatic transmission fluid in the oil. Most of the time it would clean out the dirt in the lifter and quiet down. I learned alot of backyard mechanic tricks from that old guy. I used to do all my own work on my cars, rebuilt engines and tranmissions (and I miss it) but now I have too many health problems to get under a car now and besides, cars are so D....M complicated now you can't do anything on them anymore without $25,000 worth of test equipment!
I have a 76 Eldorado that belonged to my Dad since 78. I'm always amazed it will fire up and drive me around. It only has 83K but so many years on her. I was started to wonder about seals and such but this vid has reaffirmed my faith in the big old sled. Awesome as always to ride along.

This isn't my first episode I've watched today but, i just wanted to say that, I love your content, your humor, your accent, and when you say "yea, that's fine, nope. " I couldn't imagine doing what you do on a daily, weekly, monthly or even yearly basis, but I do love watching your "misery" while trying to be optimistic.
Great show. My wife and I were laughing at your clean sense of humour. She had a big Cadillac Coupe De Ville years ago and loved it. This episode brought back some good memories for her.
A testimony to how well automobiles of this era were built in your country. Here in the UK cars were rusty before they were painted! Also, your vast knowledge is admirable for being capable of resurrecting these land yachts is no small feat.
A testimony on a bullshit video. I'm amazed you people are so gullible. If we pretend for a second that he truly repaired this guy then we have to also believe the went on an illegal drive with no state inspection, registration, insurance, or valid plates with a car that has the brakes held together with zip ties. What a joke.
I think people have intentions... but laziness just gets the better of them as they procrastinate. It is a cryin' shame, but hey it gives the rest of us vehicles to rescue. Is there any better pass time in all the world? And Derek has made a living out of it -- more power to him!
I just can’t believe it that those old cars come to life so easy , that’s a testament to the American quality if anything ❤ love your videos just found your channel and it’s great 👍🏻
Wow, two awesome things there - how well made that 1970 Caddy is and how awesome your car resurrection skills are - really never gets old seeing you bring those beautiful old beasts back to life!
You just can't kill those Old 472 cid engine's I have transplanted several of them into old vehicles that I wanted some cheap horsies in I put one in an old school bus I bought without an engine and another one into an old 69 Chevy van that came with a 6 cylinder mounted in between the driver and passenger seats that was an awesome build it had a driveshaft 3 inches long and I couldn't get a big enough radiator into it to keep it cool I could make it work with today's technology. That little van could do wheelies and that's how I was able to trade it for a 78 Trans Am yes Derick sure takes me back to my youth when life was alot simpler and whatever I could come up with I had my family's Auto salvage yard as a toy box and if I was being creative I had the support of all the mechanics and my parents

I definitely have that problem as well. I remember that guy showing off his brand new '84 corvette not that many years ago. No way could that be somewhere around 40 years ago.
It's weird talking about the year 2000 as if it's long past. Seeing people that were babies when you were an adult that are now adults themselves with adult children is just mind bending. Makes you realize how small your sliver of time here is compared to your overall lineage. As individuals we're not important, just so long as we breed and continue the lineage.

"Has the factory spare. Definitely has the factory hold'er'in'er." *Your dialogue is priceless.*

I used to do all my own work on my cars, rebuilt engines and tranmissions (and I miss it) but now I have too many health problems to get under a car now and besides, cars are so D....M complicated now you can't do anything on them anymore without $25,000 worth of test equipment!
i want to learn more from you lmao
I have a 76 Eldorado that belonged to my Dad since 78. I'm always amazed it will fire up and drive me around. It only has 83K but so many years on her. I was started to wonder about seals and such but this vid has reaffirmed my faith in the big old sled. Awesome as always to ride along.

A testimony to how well automobiles of this era were built in your country. Here in the UK cars were rusty before they were painted!
Also, your vast knowledge is admirable for being capable of resurrecting these land yachts is no small feat.
“What is this? Oh I don’t know”
In the UK rock salt is spread on the roads when it's icy, which doesn't help.
