  • I put together this quick video to show how different settings affect the GoPro Hero 9 camera's ability to record in low light situations.
These settings impact the quality of the recording...
ASA (or ISO) - bigger numbers give brighter results with more graininess.
Shutter speed - longer shutter speeds give brighter results with more blurring
Frame width - wider frame widths give brighter results but cause fishbowling
Resolution affects the shutter speeds available to you. Lower resolution video can support slower shutter speeds.
To get brighter video when it's dark, select lower resolutions like 1080p and slower shutter speeds such as 1/24 second. Select a high ASA (ISO) such as 3200 or even 6400.
Be aware you will get little to no image stabilization in low light conditions.
You adjust these parameters by touching the large video mode button at center-bottom of the screen. This takes you to a list of available video presets. Touch the edit pen at the right of the preset you want to change or scroll down and touch the + button to create a new one.
You can now change the RES/FPS, the Lens, Shutter, ISO Min, ISO Max and many other settings for the selected preset.
