    The data headers in the excel file state that the units are pounds. They are actually kilograms that were converted from pounds. This is the reason for the decimal values seen in the spreadsheet.

    Hello i just have a question, I am conducting a portfolio analysis for my assignment, so i worked out the standard deviation for stocks in FTSE 100. most of the standard deviations where above 2 but i do not know how to interpret it like what do i say? what is the meaning of it being 2? like has it got to do with volatility?

    can i ask, sir? what if i applied a probability sampling to my population and i already isolated the samples, should i still use the =stdev.s?

      I am not a statistician. I would imagine you would assuming you are still using a sample of a larger population. However, I'd recommend asking someone familiar with what you are doing.

    What if I want STDev for both men & women, and do not want to alter the columns; what does the formula look like?

      You would need to highlight both groups of data. It might let you highlight one group, put a comma, then highlight the second group. I'm not positive though.

      Standard deviation is basically the average difference of the values in your sample from your sample average. I'm sure a statistician would not like my answer and would have a better one though.
