The amount of old cars that have somehow survived their trips is insane
Because they bring professional mechanic with them each trip?
I’m still most impressed by the Espirit
even with mechanics being with them, any old car can be kept going if you treat it well and take care of it. My car is 20 years old and still going strong with no mechanical issues because i take care of my car.
Doubt any cars built today could. These cars have personality
Because older cars are more reliable than newer cars
That clip of Clarkson in his car with a cow strapped on the roof never fails to make me smile and is a perfect summary of Clarkson's "unique" character. Anyway nice video!
The Lawrence of Arabia music was the cherry on top.
I'll never get over the look of suspicion on Jeremy's face after James' "lap" in the GTR.
Pretty sure that was a reference to when the Stig as “James” raced against the Germans and Australians.
@@ChrisJones-gx7fc no the mine race with Bentley and bmw
Tonight-I move my eyes.
@Aiman Azrie no, it’s just knowing May, literally called captain slow (or mr slowly) and the performance that was displayed, is not something he is capable of - I mean they’ve worked together for 20 years, they should know
He knew it wasn’t James
@@PJOZeus its just a scripted crap
I loved the scene where Hammond arrives back with Oliver. Makes me strangely emotional…
Especially with the music
@@hotcauldron7918 Whoever scored that scene knew it was a love story of man and car.
Especially with the fact that Oliver was made in 1963, it's as old as James May when they filmed the special and it's engine was submerged in muddy pond
@@hotcauldron7918what actually is that music? It's beautiful and I'd love to know what the bit of music actually is

Still warms my heart to this day to see Michael Schumacher as the stig #keepfightingmichael
It's a shame he actually wasn't the real Stig
@@chrisgames5201 Yes, the Ferrari used on the lap, was actually Schumi's car, and Ferrari wouldn't allow anyone else (- including the proper Stig), to drive it.
@@RangieNZ was it the fxx ?
@@vakar9779 Yes
Schumi was the best!
5:37. Schumi’s wink is still legendary all these years later. The definition of goosebump inducing. #KeepFightingMichael.
In richard porters book its got the whole backstory to the schumis stig stunt and its incredible and its also the same tine he drove his fxx on the tg test track
A tear too. 😭
james arriving in the evo was just the best part of the episode
Both times!
Remember what season that one is, by any chance?
@@JorntWagenaar That's from the newest Grand Tour special "A Scandi Flick"
@@Dregkar Yooo thanks, haven't seen that one yet!
@@Dregkar Hm.. Apparently my country is at war with Norway..
5:33 imagine the applause and love this man would recieve if this scene could be done again soon. amazing man. get well soon schumi
Sadly its unlikely that he would wake up. He needs more than miracle.
@@duongnhdnhe is awake & communicating, but still in a vegetative state
@@brad15020you can’t be a vegatable and be awake and communicating.
0:50 still to this day one of my all time favorite moments from Top Gear. The sun setting on an old fart driving a beat up camero with a dead cow on the top, with one of the best film scores ever. Pure genius.
The sheer applaud, joy and cheering from the audience when Michael Schumacher was revealed as the Stig is just insane! I think it's beaten only by the episode when Richard Hammond returned to the studio after his first accident.
The Schumi bit made my eyes teary. Man what a legend. Hopefully one day we can all see him driving again. A man can dream....
That wink Schumi gives when he pulled the helmet off
My god I miss him so much
#KeepFightingMichael
😔🏎️🇩🇪🏁
I remember watching the Scandi-Flick special, seeing what had happened to that Mitsubishi Evo throughout... and then start crying tears of joy because of how amazed and relieved I was at that car still being able to complete the trip.
There will never be a better show than this. Not hyperbole, they never failed to entertain.
What that Evo went through is honestly impressive
the James May and his yellow evo has got to be the best damn ad for an already legendary car
Oliver being the first one is just iconic, that car had no right surviving but to make Jeremy genuinely speechless was just amazing lol
That yellow Lancer Evolution is tough like Hilux from old Top Gear.
Not quite, the Hilux didn’t get written off I don’t think. If they really put in the work I think they could have got it road legal again. May’s Evo is FUBAR, he admitted it on a Drivetribe episode.
@@subparusername9172 I mean. For a period. Now that thing is no better than scrap metal with a functional drivetrain.
“Tonight…. I get surprised by a thing….. Hammond gets surprised by how tall other people are in comparison to him….. and James gets surprised by the power of my genius.”
Tonight....... I wear a hat.... Richard wears a hat..... & James wears a hat.
Hammond took Oliver home. That's how reliable a vehicle it is.
“Is it Susan Boyle??” Is still one of the funniest lines lol
Hammond saying “Oh my god” in the exact same cadence every time made me laugh
2 things that surprised me the most:
May making a tire squel, in a Bentley.
May driving an Evo.
The Evo part totally making my face like this 😲 because he admits he doesn't like vulgar-ish cars, and yet...despite all what he said....he crashed it.
The thing that surprised me is the godamn 2 engine 747 in the background 5:18
@@fritzfam5 Can't hear em for now due to pressurised eardrum. Maybe soon...
@@fritzfam5 it was a movie plane for a James Bond film
Which episode was it when May made the tires squeal in the Bentley?
@@aks5900 Dont remember, but I remember Clarkson destroy a Bentley Supersport.
I LOVE "Oliver". Such an absurd and silly, but so loveable, a little car.
"Some crummy pickup truck" kicked ass. Never underestimate the mini truck
Then cuts to shot of truck with a parachute on the end. Which implies it can do the quarter mile in under 10 seconds
Nothing was more surprising from the trio than watching James May crashing that Evo into a wall
I can’t over state how much this show has made me happy
That yellow Mitsubishi Evo is the surprise of surprise.
2:08 plot twist that’s a regular sized jeep
5:33 the greatest clip in top gear history
Stig looks exactly like one would expect honestly
@@TheTallOne890 yeah
2:26 one of the best surprise appearances 😂
10:22 James saying "What a car" sent shivers down my spine
5:28 Still the best moment ever! God bless this man!
Edit: or maybe it’s this one 7:47
I’m with you on Schumacher. That genuinely came as a surprise to me, and I’m sure just about everyone watching. As I recall, he was the only one allowed to drive the Ferrari FXX on the track. Though after this Stig reveal, the actual Stig, Ben Collins, who felt the Stig should have stayed anonymous, left Top Gear and revealed himself to be the Stig. Since then Top Gear had a few drivers play the Stig.
@@ChrisJones-gx7fc That was a few series later though... Between S15 and S16, IIRC
I think it's 7:47 personally. That's got to be the best prank any of them has ever played on another.
The first clip alone is the sole reason that the og top gear will never be topped
RICHARD'S LOVE FOR OLIVER IS TOO PURE
That Evo survived and took harsh punishments. It was like, "Oh no, if that damn Impreza is going, I'm going."
As I recall, the australia trip resulted in some serious repair bills-- especially for the Bentley...watching james racing line just had me thinking about this damage and that
I find it really funny that Hammond outsmarted them so hard on the Chernobyl trip and even when Clarkson is beside him when he runs out, he doesn't utilize the time to burn extra fuel.
Who's here after grand tour
The sheer majesty of a cow on a camaro in the sunrise...
I guess they knew those things would happen, but reading something in a script then experiencing it irl are two very different things so their reactions may be genuine even if it's scripted.
Can we get a Hammond/May/Clarkson compilation of them being genuinely nice to each other?
yeah but when were they ever nice to each other
That's about 45 seconds of footage
@@zhongxina8705 the volcano in the andes, rallycross on a budget, polar special
6:35 7:37 Jeremy still has the same jumper after all those years
Thank god, Another Top Gear compilation i can fall asleep to.
tf?
5:28 This is a truly amazing moment.
I am a simple man. I see Oliver, I upvote.
Amazing show, an incredible team and a license to make money.....and the BBC threw it all away!
5:27 I love how Jeremy Clarkson starts yelling like a WWE announcer 😂
That yellow Evo was truly the hero of the show
People in 20 years will say, Jeremy, Richard, James and Einstein, those guys gave knowledge.
It's mental how having your car on one episode of top gear can make or break a company
"No it's excellent".....James delivery and timing is so underrated 😂😂
6:33 and 7:33 he had the same sweatshirt for so many years, kudos for his dedication and he has it in 8:29 as well
The end scenes were incredible
Jeremy vs the Sheriff's pick up truck will forever remain one of my favorite top gear moments.
Tonight, I point at a thing.
"Beat the meat..." 😂
@@scsutton1richard walks through a shop.
3:33 Clarkson’s *bewildered shout* subtitles: Applause.
Why yes,Ai.
5:35 For Michael to do that for the show was legendary - who says Germans have no sense of humour?
4:25 In Nissan Skyline, when you brake, the tires even squeak in the sand! What a car! :)
It's not a Nissan Skyline, which I think Nissan should've called it "Skyline" when it entered production in 2007, it's even internally named "R35".
No, instead idiots at Nissan decided to call their rebadged Infiniti's for "Skyline"
James in the Bentley showing full potential.
Michael Schumacher as the Stig will never not be iconic. So sad what happened to him...
WONDERFUL, ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!!!! Anybody else though who hasn’t seen a single ep. of top gear & watches this is gonna be confuuuuuuuused as hell 😂😂😂
my faves are when Hammond and Clarkson are shocked by Mays driving. Captain Slow is merely a facade
8:05 poor Richard 🤣😂
"is it Susan Boyle?!" will never not be hilarious 😂
The way Clarkson reacted to seeing Michael Schumacher taking off The Stig's helmet, makes me smile every time (even though in retrospect it was the only way that particular Ferrari, the FXX, to be driven at the Test Track as it was/is Schumacher's actual car and the contract stated that only he could drive it)
Prime top gear right here
It's sad knowing that another time we are going to have a dead show, our beloved Grand Tour and that maybe it's the last year when we will get new funny moments.
They’re still doing I think 3 more specials maybe 4 before they part ways with Amazon
@@michaelmayo2489 Yes but then show is dead because of Clarkson's stupidity. You can't just say everything that you mean.
@@chomaaa wait what happened?
Amazon are ending their contract with Clarkson, so whatever is currently being filmed will be the last of The Grand Tour and Clarksons Farm
@@AlexAlex-sp7nb he had an article published on Christmas day about wanting Megan Markle stripped naked and flogged through public streets.
Props to the yellow Mitsubishi!

When it's apparent that Hammond and Africa don't get along with cars. But somehow his cars, no matter how messed up they are, he still repairs them. With crew help or course.
3:27
And on that day foward, Jeremy learnt to never jugde a vehicle by its appearance.
May driving that GTR is insane😮
Oliver became Hammond's car right there. i bet that man would give anything away just to keep oliver.
Always loved to know, how did Richard Hammond fix Oliver
As you'd expect, I was NOT the first to be surprised
I never know before that the original "you bastard" is here 8:15
0:11 amazing i love that music from the Beach movie…
05:34 My favourite TG moment ever ever ever!
05:35 - We miss you, Schummy... =(
Schumacher is on the Mount Rushmore of greatest drivers of all time.
Alongside Lewis Hamilton, Ayrton Senna, Niki Lauda, Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Mika Hakkinen and Sir Stirling Moss
6:09 to 6:41 its kind of weird when you look at those old top gear clips from the Ukraine. That you would think that 8 years later that would be a recent Battlefield site. Its so bizarre when you think about it.
I love how people don't seem to realize that Russo-Ukraine war been going on since 2014.
Old cars were made to last. Unlike most things today.
*"Old cars were made to last. Unlike most things today"*
I bet you also said the same thing back in 1990's
The old cars that weren't made to last, which was most of them, are dead and you don't have to think of them. Out there, right now, is a brand-new car that will outlive you but you'll never know it because you're too busy wanking over your nostalgia.
3:15,
Welcome to American drag racing Jeremy!!!
8:10 LMFAO 🤣
" Waiting for Captain Slow " sounds like a book or paly title
I would add Clarkson's "Look at Hammond!" when Hammond just straight up murdered them in the Rimac vs NSX vs Lamborghini drag race
Clarkson lines up on a big tire truck with a parachute... "this is going to be deeply embarrassing for him" 💀💀💀💀💀
3:38 Tonight on Top Gear: I point at a thing.
God bless these guys.
hammond's ability to fix anything gets overlooked
Schumacher ❤❤😢
“Mind you, it’s not as revolting as what’s just got out of it”
8:04 you can see the exact moment of realisation
In the last clip, James May went fully Colin McRae😍😍😍😍
0:33 sounds like a car from the 30s
Hammond in the flying car 🤣🤣🤣
That SLS is soooo wrong... Love the compilation 😁
When have SLS even been right? Supercars have always been wrong and pointless, they always been to flashy and show off.
Another disadvantage with supercars that while driving people will take pictures of your car, even with flash enabled, making you crash into a tree.
The underrated heroes are the backup cars they would send (at times).
No one behind you Obz, James may: Funny💀 I can't
The thing that always amazed me is that the only one of the 3 with any racing pedigree is James. Richard has done some rallys as a hobby, I don't think Jeremy ever got into the racing scene but James gave it a go as a motorcycle racer when he was young and also in cars.
In 47 years i have never been speechless
