Metal Maestro and on top of this bands with coloured members extend past the boundaries of folk metal into mainstream metal as well, bands like Dragonforce, Dream Theater, Metallica, Anthrax (part native american), Morbid angel, Napalm death, Soundgarden, Rainbow, System of a down, Slayer, Vektor, Suicidal Tendencies, Cynic, Deftones, Suffocation, Living colour, Sepultura, Trivium, Killswitch engage, Opeth, Angra, Body count, Krisiun, Sarcofago, Alice in chains, King's X and Rage against the machine. Additionally, "European " metal, although started by black Sabbath wouldn't sound anything like it does had it not been for one of the genre's most important progenitors, Jim Hendrix, without whom we would not have the wave of heavy, distorted blues influenced psychedelic rock which heavily influenced Sabbath's sound. And don't even get me started on the slew of punk bands with black and Hispanic members that influenced thrash and by extension, everything that came after as well as the heavy influence African-American jazz and blues had on metal across the entirety of it's history. Also, to add to ur list of culturally inspired metal bands such as Aeternam, Artcell, Dir en grey, Odious and Zeal and ardor.
It's not so much about population as it is about influence, I'm not saying that simply because non-white metal musicians exist that metal is inherently non-European. I am saying you can't say that metal is completely and totally European as much of metal's heritage lies outside of Europe, in African genres such as blues and later jazz and African ideas, as the artist most commonly credited for creating the specific brand of heavy, distorted bluesy psychedelic rock that influenced metal's forefathers such as Sabbath and Zeppelin was an African-American man, Jimi Hendrix. Furthermore later, many hispanic musicians played a major role in the development of thrash, a genre commonly regarded as the crossroads that all modern metal genres take common influence from, thus making large portions of metal culture reliant on hispanic contributions. Also note that Europe is not culturally monolithic, although metal bands did exist all across Europe since the genre's inception the vast majority of notable bands excluding America came from either England or Germany, and Scandinavia, largely regarded as the region that produces the most metal music in the modern age, only truly entered prominence AFTER the American innovations of thrash and death, genre's heavily built on foundations laid by African and Hispanic musicians as well as musicians of European descent. The reason we can still say rap is almost inextricably connected to the African-American culture is because it is a sound built by African-American musicians descended from other distinctly African-American styles of music such as jazz, soul and funk, so yes, although I could list dozens of non-African rappers as well as non-African jazz and soul musicians, the genres can still be viewed as distinctly African because they are based entirely on African ideas and concepts and are consistently dominated largely by the ethnicity whose culture birthed the ideas the genre is based upon, metal on the other hand despite being dominated by Europeans is not based on distinctly European ideas, it is based on African ideas. And before you start treating me like some weird leftist shill, I would clarify that this connection does of course go both ways, classical orchestral music is a distinctly European genre based on ideas that inextricably historically distinct to European culture and although countless African, Asian and South American composers exist today who all put their own cultural spin on these historically European ideas, if one must racialize music, which I honestly don't see the purpose in, classical does still qualify as a distinctly European genre as it is based on and consistently dominated by European ideas and artists, same goes for other "White" genres such as country and electronic music. Though, to be honest, music is music, I really do not see the purpose in racializing art.
I love how the melodies you hear in wild-west and mongolian rock/metal both sound like the galloping, it tells a lot of how much this cultures depended on the horse.
Interesting observation. Both Mongolian and Country tend to use similar scales (major/minor pentatonic), as well as in triplets that give a very galloping, horse-like feel.
This video is the reason why I've been obsessed with Mongolian folk metal for months now. I love the look on people's face when they ask me what I'm listening to and I say Mongolian folk metal.

*To all saying Sabaton is not a Folk Metal band*.... I know!!!...Never said they were, They are in this video because they happen to have one song that is influenced by Country-Western Folk music, and this song is the best example of country/western metal i could find so i used it to represent the style. This does not mean that Sabaton are a Country/Western Folk Metal band. They are a Power Metal band, who happen to have one exemplary Country/Western Folk Metal song. This video is simply showing that these folk styles exist in metal in some form, not necessarily as a band's entire sound. You won't believe how many comments there are contesting this. I discovered Dezperadoz and Redwest after making this video, check them out for fully Country-Western Metal bands.
+Metal Maestro Check out Sign of the Southern Cross for true country/American folk metal: the first three tracks on Of Mountains and Moonshine are gold and the entire album is very very solid overall.
+Deryk Crum Though that is very often how they're described, I respectfully disagree in that they take some of the American folk/blues influence in Pantera further to the point where I would partially describe them as a cross between old school Sabbath doom metal and Pantera thrash. To me different enough to set them apart, but I'm not everyone.
You know, there isn't really a bluegrass metal or a Western metal band I could even think of, I mean there's plenty of Southern rock, but no true power metal with Americana-folk music. Closest thing to that maybe is Goddamn Gallows. (Though technically blues is a sort of American folk music)
***** Doesn't really sound like bluegrass, it actually sounds vikingish/celtic to me. BTW, because of this, and other personal inspirations, I am personally working on a bluegrass power metal song. I'll throw up a demo in the near future. It ain't gonna sound pretty, but once I refurbish it, it'll be a bit better.
Dude for some reason I decided to check out your channel tonight, and I'm glad I did. This is an excellent compilation of artists, and will give people who are newcomers to the genre an idea of what sort of folk metal they'll want to check out first. I'm going to have check out some more folk metal from non-European countries, particularly Mongolian folk metal.
Thanks man! Introducing people to new and different kinds of Folk Metal was exactly the point of this video, i'm glad its working! Mongolian Folk Metal is great! You might want to check out the playlists i made to help people find even more of these various folk styles.

The German band is “Equilibrium”. I love them, an extremely underrrated and versatile band. They even have a few folk metal songs mixed with Arab music like their song “Karawane”. They’re also the band that does the reggae metal with “Heavy Chill.”
Great compilation! The quality of the music is a bit of a hit-or-miss, but it's still good to know there are so many folk metal subgenres there. Some good bands to check out too. Thanks for posting!
There's a band in Brazil called Arandu Arakuaa, which is Tupi-Guarani Folk Metal. You should listen to it, sounds very close to the indigenous songs of brazilian tribes.

when i listen to folk metal , i dont just get enough with it , i must later seek to understand how folk music sounds like originally , it's basically a mind opener i think
Yes but that exact song is a Western folk metal song. I also wouldn't call them power metal, they have only a few songs that could be considered power metal.
It's a shame that there's a lot of Japanese bands but they don't play with folk sounds. Foreign bands like Whispered (Norway) have developed their Japanese style.
Es una lastima porque es una tierra con mucha cultura, sobre todo en la música tradicional. Las bandas que son de Mongolia saben cómo combinar su música autóctona con el metal
