- Can't promise to do this on all the footage I have (very time consuming!) but here is a condensed collaboration of all the hilarious unseen out-takes and uncut bits from Episode 6 of the return of Blankety Blank with Lily Savage recorded back in February 1998. Watch out for strong language!
The full episode itself uncut is over an hour long so I don't think I'll be uploading anytime soon especially now RUclips have put me back to 15 minute limit only. Pwhh!

Before Lily hit our TV screens she was on the Gay Bar/Club circuit for many, many years. She was just like this, absolutely fantastic and never stopped. Have always loved her

Sad he seemed to hate the character so much when he hit the big time. It’s lovely he loves Dogs so much but he was never as entertaining as this creation
@Martha Mansbridge I don't think he hated her but I think she took over his life and it must have been physically stressful to be Lily all the time. She was great but I think he made the right decision to move on. Seems he always left us wanting more. RIP Paul

Paul O'Grady's alter ego, Lily Savage is beyond funny. I'm not even a Brit - I'm Canadian, and I don't get half the references to Brit Celebrities, but Lily is SO WITTY...so quick and so..well...savage...Gawd she makes me howl with laughter. It's all the little mannerisms, and falling off her mules, etc. I discovered Lily via Paul's work at Battersea. What a kind, funny, lovely human being.
British tv on a saturday night used to be so good in the 90s. Now it's just reality shows. The game shows, blankety blank, the generation game, big break... childhood memories XD
Lily is the only character other than Dame Edna who wasnt a man dressed as a woman but was an actual character with a life and personality and the fact that it was a man wasnt even in your head when you saw Lily cause the character was so expertly created and known that it was like a real woman standing there and never was a joke made about it being a man and thats the absolute genius of them both that they were so entrenched in the character and it was so incredibly funny that you were totally on board and forgot it was a man. That really is true genius in comedy right there!
Hinge and Bracket were the same. So many people really believed they were two female has-beens of the opera world! As you so rightly say, 'true genius in comedy!'
What a day out that must have been for the audience. He was so funny the out takes were better than the show. God bless you Lilly.

This is genius. Quite appalling genius. "Lily Savage" is underrated, right up there with Billy Connolly for sheer talent. The language is as blue/purple as heck, but a warm-hearted, supreme intelligence shines through it all.
dont think she was underrated she had her own audience with celebrities special(which is hilarious)and her own TV show. Then Paul retired her and he became pretty much the biggest chat show host on daytime TV. So he has always been appreciated.

I was lucky to get tickets to two of the recordings of Blankety-Blank. Absolute hysteria, with some people on the floor with laughter. Wonderful. I do miss our Lil!

I watched Blankety Blank back in the day, after seeing the mess especially around 8:00 to 9:00 HOW.... HOW did the editors ever put a show together from this, my god. RIP Paul, loved you and Lily very much.

God the editor must have had nightmares trying to make this broadcastable.
How did they ever get to the end of a single episode? This stuff is funnier than what made it to air. They missed a trick putting on pre-watershed.
It must have been a nightmare job for the editors. My goodness though, this stuff's good ain't it. Comedy gold.
If you ever get the chance, go see a recording of the _The News Quiz_ quiz at the Radio Theatre in London. It's exactly like this. The show is broadcast as a 29-minute episode, but it takes upwards of 2 hours to record because they go off on so many tangents and rants, it's fantastic. Such a shame that Jeremy Hardy is no longer with us, as his ascerbic wit was just sublime.
Imagine bringing it back at 11pm with Lily allowed to go wild! With filthy questions! We can only dream!
I was in the audience of Paul o Grady show live at 5pm on Channel 4... And he is literally like this off air.. he would say "coming next we got this person or whatever see you after the break".. the music plays and bang he's off.. swearing like a trooper it was fantastic.. we had finished the show we had to stay behind so he could do the trails for the next days show and the producers gave him a tounge twister which went down really well with Paul.. 😂 he started reading it got about 4 words in then went who the f wrote this.. and they made him do it and he was kicking off big time it was the best thing ever.. if you ever get chance to watch a TV show being recorded or aired live do so.. it's the one of the best experiences you'll have.. I was so lucky to watch Paul o Grady's show twice and each time was the best time of my life

when comedy made you literally cry tears. Lily was so fast witted she was a machine gun fire wit. This show had so many great hosts like les dawson & terry wogan. But I dont think they had outtakes like Lilys she had such a filthy mouth most of this could never air.

+The Concise Statement Paul was never on Whose Line, I think his style as Lily Savage would not suit the original series of UK Whose Line. Maybe with Paul as Paul himself and not Lily now, he would suit a new UK version, maybe not the current US version.
