- Paul O'Grady's alter-ego Lily Savage delivering a foul-mouthed rant on the set of her BBC variety show 'The Lily Savage Show'. Needless to say, the Beeb decided not to broadcast this one.
I was absolutely gutted to hear that Paul died overnight. He was truly a star, whether he was playing Lily or just being himself. Rest in peace and thanks for some great memories xxx

I worked in Paul’s home, he is without doubt a humbled man with a passion for animals, the nicest celebrity I’ve ever worked for, a private man, but gave me the time of day, a genuine down to earth man.
He has been one person I would very much like to bump into and have yet to do so.

I once had the pleasure of being on the New Paul O'Grady Show in 2007, teaching Paul to play a xylophone. He really is a very nice man, who loves his animals, and is nice to everyone. Hope everything is okay, Paul!

Just woke up after night shift to read that Paul had died. I live up the north end of the Isle of Skye and Paul would come here for his holidays. He was the warmest, kindest soul and the world is a darker place without him. I’m now going to binge watch Lily to cheer myself up.
Paul’s alter ego was almost a real split personality. I loved Lily back in the day, but this shows the incredible comic brain coupled with the fantastic front that was Lily Savage that allowed Paul O'Grady to give the audience everything. I think looking back it is clear that Lily was a world class comic act. I doubt that she will ever resurface again, but these glimpses is genius will remain forever.

He would have stolen the show. And Lily was known for this kind of non scripted stuff. Uncontrollable. RuPaul and Michelle would have totally been eclipsed ! And I would have LIIIIIIIVED for it !
Paul ogrady has made it perfectly clear what he thinks of rupauls drag race. Lily savage has retired anyway Paul great but lily is the absolute best of British drag. Would have totally eclipsed Ru and there is NO WAY ru would allow that

Here I am in America (North), and saddened to say I've not seen Lily before. I was born in the wrong country, at the wrong time, and feel alone in an insane world. Why can't we all have a sense of humor, try to get along with each other, have an open mind, and see the human race as the joke that it is? I'm in love with Mz Savage for the beauty she is.
i was 14 when this was done and I have to say I have grown in appreciation of the act with age. You just couldn't get away with it on UK TV in today's PC age. Sad to say the least.

Can't remember who Lily said it to, but a guest on The Big Breakfast was talking about his former alcohol and cocaine abuse and how he'd beat it. He said "Well, you only have one liver don't you?". To which Lily replied. "Yeah, and only one nostril.". Quality.

Not only does Paul make me laff til I cry as he does Lilly, but I do animal rescue and his show makes me cry for JOY! Such a lovely human being. You are lucky to have someone as Paul be an ambassador for your country. I feel so much better now! Thank you, thank you!!!

I read Paul O'Grady's autobiographies whilst doing night shift , after hearing him on the radio. I thought ' It's not really me but if he can make me laugh out loud
on the way to night shift on a Sunday night , I will give it a go '. They were laugh out loud funny . Love and respect to you both !!

i was going to say the same about Lily Savage. His jokes were just so drab. Always the same, again and again. Joan Rivers was actually clever and inventive.
Rivers was just a gobshite who slagged people off in a very loud voice. In America they have a very different standard of wit, with very little actual wit involved.

I was on holiday in Scotland in 1993. It was pouring down. But I didn't mind as the Lily Savage show was on TV. It was an adult laugh with very blue jokes. After 9pm watershed.

Saw Lilly live several times laughed till I cried, so funny and Paul such a lovely warm kind human being, such a huge loss.
First saw Lily Savage in the RVT in the very early 90's. That is how drag should be done. Lily & Paul lit the room up where ever they went. Knowing that he's no longer here is taking some getting used to. I'll miss him, and so will all of his animals. xxx

I was witness to a similar triad while watching a recording of 'Eyes down'. Things were not going well and Paul went into a monologue which was hysterical. I must get round to getting the dvd and seeing if it made it to the outtakes!

I wish Paul O’Grady still appeared as Lilly Savage because he could get away with saying things as Lilly that he would never say without the makeup and wig . In fact his act has changed so much since he hung up the drag act that he’s almost the complete opposite of what Lily was. He’s joined the establishment.

I knew Paul in 84/85/86/87 I first met him when he appeared with Adrella and the magnificent Trolletes at the Union and the Vauxhall. He was a kind,charming and funny guy. He didn’t come on to me( unlike some,Dave Dale I mean you) he was just sweet. I wonder what happened to Skippy.

Everything today is so politically correct that comedy is completely dead.
Look back to the Eighties where every Saturday night the TV would leave you laughing, but not anymore.
Last I checked, South Park's still on the air--not PC at all, bur also not near as funny as it used to be. Also Carol Burnett Show was hilarious, but they didn't rely on making fun of black people, gay people, or whoever, yet you still claim "PC" is the problem. Nope... lazy, tone deaf comedians are.

Oh and comedy only just became PC did it? You never heard about how many time Monty Python was in trouble they even had PC police sketches because of the producers, you also must have missed the Dame Edna still has a circuit, I guess you missed the Billy Connolly later years.
Oh and I guess you missed the fact that the entire Flying Circus sketches mainly revolved around making fun of the Catholic Church, or general societal norms of the time period. I guess you've never seen Rupauls snatch game...unless you're scared of actual drag queens.
