The main issue is that dji are able to ignore the rules and requirements of appel and google they had agreed in before. I expect that DJI will learn the lesson when the EU will require that a drone's app needed to be updated by one of the well known sources on a regular sheme. Now dji has no chance to push the new versions out, right? If they can not proof that they offer the update on the appstores than they should loose the allowance to sell any drone inside the EU. I bet dji will not start any further discussion and would deliver a fully compliant app for sure. It is time to make not only dji compliant but also EU minded cause that is dji s biggest market in total. They fool governments and consumers like they want and it is becoming crazy that I need to download apks from dji china out of control of playstore. I hate to see dji causing trouble cause it hurts the drones reputation in our societies. Drone flyer have already a bad reputation and the citizen complain a lot and vote for everything that makes flying harder until it becomes impossible due to bad pilot behaviour, ignorance of the impact a drone has ( noise level ) and trouble around infrastructure or hovering over foreign property. And the media jump on drone sightings at airports that have become less in the past 2 years I guess and the will jump on the victims like that chinese child with a lot stitches on its cheek after props had cut into the cheek. Just a question of time until we get strong licence and not take of without a valid licence ... In 2016 we had not many regulations but we got a lot meanwhile and this will continue cause each case will add more and more requirments and regulations. And the worst: dji is killing its own markets by the way they handle the software deployment and updates
Once you are on 1.3.0, there is a built in update installer, wich when there is a new update and you open the dji fly app, will prompt you to update the app.
"staging app" "installing" "app not installed". Everytime I try this. My phone is compatible (galaxy s9 up to date) nobody seems to have this problem. HELP!

there is a reason why you get a warning about installing 3rd party apps not via the play store. ever hear of the go 4 app? security consultants found major security issues which allowed for the collection of data from the phone that are completely unrelated to the use of any dji products. google has most likely refused to sign off on the new version of dji fly because of the addition of questionable features in the software.
Do you know of a way to get an older version? The latest version will not connect my controller to my phone. Controller connects to my mavic mini, but not my phone.
Good call Ash, yeah I noticed my DJI Fly app isn't auto updating anymore! I'm still running v1.2.1 on my android device. So I'm missing out on new features such as the compass and attitude indicator for my Mavic Mini! ⚠️😯
@@MikeKinney8675 Should be on the latest version! It got introduced on v1.2.2 you have to click the map bottom left and toggle through to find the new compass.👍😎

Thanks. I did downloaded the apk file to my crombook (android). It was a big mistek, the crombook went crazy, I lost all my android settings.. the silly app wouldn't start at all.

Highly unlikely because the app runs in the Goggles and is integral to the actual drone itself, unfortunately. Maybe you can use the USB-C output to HDMI to a tablet/display?

Juts bought Mini2, my first drone. Can't install the app. It is not even there on Google store anymore. Would have been nice to tell what the differences between new and old app if any so people can decide if worth updating. Now I need to find a dummy phone that I can use for this apk.

Do you have to uninstall the app before installing the latest version. Don't you lose all the data if you do that. I try installing without uninstalling (effectively to update) and it failed. Any ideas?

I already noticed that and fixed the "Weak signal, adjust antennas" on my Air2 by installing the version on the DJI website. I am sure it was not like this before and issue was introduced by the latest android update.
I hadn't noticed this but yes, DJI Fly is out of date on the Google Play store but just as seriously, so is the DJI Go 4 app. I have Huawei tablets and mobile phones which are updating from the Huawei App Gallery and they are up to date but my OnePlus and Samsung devices are all out of date so I had to update them manually. Whether this is a fault of DJI or of Google slapping restrictions on DJI just like they have with Huawei I don't know but everybody needs to be aware of this. Thanks Ash!
all you gotta do is google "dji go 4 app + security concerns" thats why google isnt signing off on the fly app. dji prolly put shit on it and google is like nope...
Did not need to uninstall v 1.2.0. When 1.3.0 was installing manually (your process) it provided an option to update so after clicking "yes", it did. Android tablet Samsung tab S5e OS v. 10
Hi Ash, I can't do this for the smart controller though.... DJI Fly app can not be uninstalled. And using DJI assistant does not give any updates.... Also... Any word on the Virtual Flight app for Android? 😭

I've done all this multiple times but the app won't even open on my pixel 5. I've downloaded it 3 times now and it just immediately crashes. I am on Android 12 beta. Could that be it? Or does anyone know why? I never had any issues before this.
@@cjleveille2626 Hi, yes. I have been able to find it. After following the instruction in this video to download the app, you should navigate to the Downloads folder on your phone (in the Samsung folder) you should see the file you downloaded with the DJI icon next to it. clicking on it should run the installation properly. I followed this tutorial and the app gets stuck on a page asking if u want helpfull info on how to use the app... tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail

I have just purchased a Mini 2 and have a Samsung A11 phone, with Android 10 operating system...I have tried everything to install the DJI fly app on this phone with no success...Anyone else had this problem?
@@Droning-ON Ive just discovered the Samsung A11 runs on 32 bits, the DJI Fly app runs on 64 bits...Will have to buy a new phone now, very frustrating.

I struggled to update Fly to 1.3 for my new FPV drone... and that bit me as you described! I caught it and downloaded the APK from DJI... installed it and it still didn't update... So I wiped the stored Fly data, then uninstalled Fly and then installed the newly downloaded 1.3 from DJI... Great stuff Ash! Where were you 5 days ago? LOL Just kidding!
@@Kovaction quite possibly dude, but be careful with those sites, they're funded via advertising, but I have always wondered if they embed naughty things into those APK's, I wouldn't personally risk ever installing an APK from one of those sites.

@@simonsimon1989 rightfully so. Dl their apk to your computer, dl an apk analyzer too (the type developers use to test their apps) and look at all the severe risk vulnerabilities that show up. People are morons if they sideload apps to their device ESPECIALLY from a chinese business which is forced to work with the CSS (chinese security services) Sadly the fly app wont be getting any updates to the playstore. I will fly mine using 1.2.1 until my drone stops working and then i will go with an american made drone or some non chinese brand. Or i will take up fpv and build my own.
Been there, done that. Don't waste your time, this method doesn't work on newer Android phones. This will only work on older phones. I ended up returning my drone.

Do you recommend updating the dji fly app, with the same method described, onto to smart controller?
The Smart Controller has the DJI Fly app integral within its ROM, therefore it might not be possible to update it in this way unfortunately.

As much as it pains me get an ios device and use that guaranteed no backdoors on it. Apple would say fuck no to it if it did have compromised software

I was told not to manually download it manually there is a reason why the play store has stopped it security concerns

Must you uninstall previous version, or will new version overwrite the old version?
You can leave the old one installed but I would personally uninstall it, personal choice.

It does not work for me. I have Andriod 9 and i can download the file but the app can not be downloaded, why?

Haven't flown my DJI spark for about 2 years I think the app is old because it's showing 1.VX IF MY KNOWLEDGE OF ROMAN NUMERALS I'M ON 1.15...
Remember that the Spark doesn't use the DJI Fly app, it uses the traditional DJI Go 4.

It's safe to do it via DJI, the only way which wouldn't be safe would be to install an APK from a third-party aite, such as PureAPK.
@@Droning-ON I am not so sure because dji is listed in the black entity list by US government.
@@simonsimon1989 rightfully so. Dl their apk to your computer, dl an apk analyzer too (the type developers use to test their apps) and look at all the severe risk vulnerabilities that show up. People are morons if they sideload apps to their device ESPECIALLY from a chinese business which is forced to work with the CSS (chinese security services)
Sadly the fly app wont be getting any updates to the playstore. I will fly mine using 1.2.1 until my drone stops working and then i will go with an american made drone or some non chinese brand. Or i will take up fpv and build my own.

Been there, done that. Don't waste your time, this method doesn't work on newer Android phones. This will only work on older phones. I ended up returning my drone.
The new DJI app is bs it'll cause your drone to drop like a rock. Thanks DJI for costing me $1,200
