I'm using DJI Fly v1.2.4 in this video. Starting about 2 days ago, DJI has modified the Fly app so that it will now do updates to the Android Fly app from inside the app just like the drone firmware updates. You should download the latest 1.2.4 Android app from DJI (see Eds comment above) and it will than let you know when an update is available. So no longer need to go to Play Store or DJI to get it. Big improvement! Thanks Ed for an excellent and well described video.
Wow! Possibly the most helpful tutorial I’ve watched since I got my DJI Mini 4K. I’ve been terrified of flying further than I can physically see the drone, this is a game changer. Thanks!
Very. Very. Very clear, thank you for the information. I have already watched it three times. I will continue to watch the video until I completely practice and apply the information. THANKS. Gary.
Excellent, this was by far the clearest explanation I’ve found on the internet to describe the functionality of the critically important navigation aspect of the DJI mini 2. I’m a new drone user and it didn’t take me long to figure out without this knowledge you’re gonna have problems as it’s sooooo easy to lose sight of your drone even if it’s only 30 feet away. Thanks.
This is genuinely one of the most informative and clear videos regarding the GPS and maps elements of Go Fly App. As someone who has recently moved from a 6 year old Phantom 4 which used the Go 4 app to an Air 2S, there is so much more in the Go Fly app than I had realised. It's really helpful so thanks very much Ed. I'll be checking out other videos of yours for sure :)
Great tutorials! Ed gives very specific easy to understand information without any hype, antics or otherwise distracting commentary. Certainly my go-to for quick and easy app and flying instructions.
MA2 Pilot here. I've been using my drone for real estate in #highlandsnc and #cashiersnc area of NC. I have been using Dronelink for the most part to get my bearings and create missions. However, this is the best and simplest explanation I have seen for using the compass and its features. Also, because much of me work is in remote areas with no signal, this is wonderful information to have to "pre-load" maps. I have to do that with dronelink, within that app. But knowing I have this for DJI and (heaven forbid) I have a crash in the woods, good to know it may be easier to find, should the situation arise. Great job! Thanks. Going to go outside now and play...
Mini 1 Just downloaded version 1.2.4 it was not available in Google store but it was in Samsung Galaxy store . Thought they had removed the compass at first, but was happy when I worked out how the direction/attitude indicator worked & all works fine.👍
Seriously helpful. I imagine this information is in the manual, but it's better to have a video and an expert description of how the GPS map works. I actually took screenshots and notes and I plan to try this out today. Thanks for your content.
Thank you your tutorial was very insightfull. I appreciate the information as I am a first time drone flyer of a DJI Air 2S. I took the drone out this evening and used the satelite maps in a country location in Wisconsin.
Came here trying to discover what that 'eraser' icon was for. Got my answer, and quite a bit more info to go with it. Thanks, Ed, for the very clear and helpful vid!
Thank you, 4 week into this and your videos have been very helpful. Also, I love how your videos have the breakdown of what your are covering. I am sure this takes extra time on your part and it is much appreciated!
I know this is an old video but you saved me today with this vid now I can fly further because point it on the red line and fly home Thank you brother you helped save my mini2
Awesome vid brother Im a newbie piolet and this helps allot I never knew if you get lost you can fly home by following the red line and other things thanx for this I watch many vids that are useless but your a good teacher you make the info understandable thanx earned my sub
I've had my original Mavic Air for years now with no problem or issues and I thought there was nothing more I could learn. I was wrong! Even though you were using the Fly App and a different drone I learned some things which I think are relevant to my Go4 App. Thanks for the great information!
Great video, explains everything. I've just got my Mini2 and been watching youtube videos but couldn't understand why there was no compass in the middle at the bottom. Now I know and also how to use the the new design, excellent, thank you.
Thanks Ed for this one. I'm very new to the drone world(2/2/21). I was looking at all the videos on the Mavic Air 2 could not find the attitude indicator in the middle of my screen. Thanks to this video I know that function was changed in this current release of the fly app. I learned that all the other videos were done prior to the current release. Thanks again!
This is brilliant Adjust your homepoint using the ADJUST HOME point say 200 metres up the field (Adjusting the position of the home point). Press return home and as the drone goes up the field yo can turn the drone and photo or Video as the drone "returns Home" while actually flying away!! Took two different RUclips videos to see how to do this
This is a great tutorial on maps/compass/attitude. You are right near me, and I even thought of flying that park where you filmed. Half of Dorothy Dix is in RDU restricted altitude though, and all of Pullen Park. As my skills improve I plan to get a lot of footage over Falls Lake - so far I've been flying a 3 mile reservoir in Wake Forest. Appreciate these videos - This earned a sub!
Hallo I like your video. Since two weeks I have a mini. I live in Holland I am learning to fly. This video is very helpful. I learn a lot and try it out with my mini. Love the information It gives me trust to fly. Thank you
Thanks Ed. I just got my Air2, and I've been absorbing lots of info from RUclips vids. Yours is the absolute BEST so far for using the controller and maps. The "compass" view information is super valuable. I'm charging my batteries for the first time right now, and looking forward to my first flight!
I have the Mavic Mini, and I really liked this video, a nice, concise tutorial and it was good to learn about the radar map which I was unaware of. Best wishes from the UK!
I This video is great and very helpful to a new comer like me who had just bought my mavic air 2 drone, but yet to fly the drone outdoor. Lol Thank you so much, Ed Ricker!
💥💥 Ed…. This was excellent. I’m not one to dish out too many compliments but you really deserve one. So explicit with every function. 🏆👏🏼 You definitely got a 👍🏼
I have the DJI mini too I'm glad I found your video I hope it helps me my main thing is this I like to see that pointer showing me which way the GPS is flying and when I turn around I like to see that pointer coming back to me I hope this helps me set it up like that I really like the drone I hope I can set it up the way I want thank you good video
They just keep improving the app for better flying experience. Software like Litchi may have some added features, but when it comes to stability and usefulness, DJI Fly App is still the way to go.
Great video, thank you. I just started using the map last night...so many cool options on the mini 2. I can't stop flying this thing. It's a good thing I have time on my hands right now or I'd be in trouble...the mini 2 is addictive....you've been warned....
Amazing video, just lost my Mavic mini as it disconnected and didn't return to home for some reason (much salt), but this will deffo help for next time so Ty 👍
Thank you for the excellent explanations, everything in your video was easy to follow because of the effort you put into making it. Greatly appreciated.
Very interesting video to find back the radar. But it makes me think what I would really like with next update: an option in display settings, to make all those super tiny icons, bigger.
Changing icon stack order and show/hide would also help for drone relocation. Drone indicator quickly blocks controller so you can't see controller arrow direction.
Very nice video. I think you miss two things. It should be mentioned that the blue arrow on the side of the blue circle is the direction the antennas are pointing so for optimum signal that arrow needs to be pointing toward the drone arrow. Second hearse a trick 99% don’t know. The third icon when you tap on it and tap on one of the icons that are on the side of it then tap anywhere on the map and a blue pushpin shows up where you tap. You can place that pushing anywhere on the map and fly directly to that location. Say a certain house in a subdivision. It is a quick way to fly to a certain location like a certain intersection. It’s fun to use but make sure your RTH altitude is set. Doug
The direction of the controller arrow is also useful to relocate downed drone when battery is flat and poor visibility. Better still would be live updating the controller GPS co-ordinates and/or implementing hot-cold audio feedback based on last recorded drone location.
Awesome tutorial. I wish I could get out there and fly. I'm here in NW New Jersey. We got over 30" of snow last Monday, more snow on top of that and another 4" today. Do you know if snow ground snow causes any issues?
It shouldn't cause any issues. I've flown over snow a handful of times and never had a problem. Just be careful to keep your batteries warm so you'll have the best battery performance.
I'm over in Union County and got lots of snow as well. From the specs they say it can work in the cold. However, like most electronics the batteries do drain much faster. I didn't fly in active snow, which I wouldn't attempt due to the exposed parts on the DJI Mini 2. All I did was clear an area for taking off and landing. Got some great footage! 🛩️📸
Thanks for the information about the unlocking zones. I thought that when you get the codes for unlocking the zone it was safe once you stick to the restrictions. Well now I know that it's not. thanks for sharing bud really enjoyed it👍👍👍
Great video Ed, I'll be getting the Air2s very soon. All new app coming from the old Mavic Pro . Looking forward to the upgrades. Thanks for making the transition so simple
Great video and thanks for sharing. I am a new mini 2 owner and I am wondering what the blue pin is that appears on the map 9’ 18” I can get it to appear on my map sometimes but wondering if there is a use for it.
I really like my mini 2. This thing is so awesome and easy to fly. And the Video? I haven't taken it out of 1080 yet, and the Video is GREAT! You have to get the flymore combo!! at least 3 batteries is Mandatory...if you can't fly the mini 2 then stay in bed....

Does the app work for the new Samsung S21 Plus? There is just a download that doesn't do anything-!
Can you help me please I've got no flight direction at all I can not lock exposer
How about if you save or load the google map data for offline. Does it work?
Finally a mini 2 tips video which actually has info that’s not in every single other mini 2 video. Thank you
Wow! Possibly the most helpful tutorial I’ve watched since I got my DJI Mini 4K. I’ve been terrified of flying further than I can physically see the drone, this is a game changer. Thanks!
An a new drone (Mini 2) owner (who got a bit "lost" on his first flight) this is by far the most helpful video I've watched. Thanks!
One of the best vids Ive seen on this subject. Clear and concise explanation. Subscribed!
Very. Very. Very clear, thank you for the information. I have already watched it three times. I will continue to watch the video until I completely practice and apply the information. THANKS. Gary.

The first 30 seconds of your video was priceless, so hard to figure out which app to use!
Came here trying to discover what that 'eraser' icon was for.
Got my answer, and quite a bit more info to go with it.

This presentation is informative, to the point and without any silly drama. Thumbs up!
Thank you! Very few videos go into such detail about the screen functions. Now I feel I can fly with so much more information available.
I know this is an old video but you saved me today with this vid now I can fly further because point it on the red line and fly home
Thank you brother you helped save my mini2
Excellent info sir! Never knew about the drone “tilt” feature showing how it’s banking into the wind...very helpful!
Excellent Ed. Enjoyed that comprehensive description. Now a wiser man. Thanks. Merv F Australia
I'm just learning how to use my Mini 2, so this has been very helpful. Thank you.

I like how the mapping looks like and how the buttons are setup on the right . Very nice review Eddie
Thank you! Yes the setup is very cool. They've changed it a bit, and they made a few things hard to find, but in general it's a great app.
This is brilliant
Adjust your homepoint using the ADJUST HOME point say 200 metres up the field (Adjusting the position of the home point). Press return home and as the drone goes up the field yo can turn the drone and photo or Video as the drone "returns Home" while actually flying away!!
Took two different RUclips videos to see how to do this
Excellent explanations Ed! Have fun in Colorado next week with Sean. We'll all look forward to that content!
I loved this video! You explained and answered so many of my questions about the DJI map and tracking my Mavic Mini Drone.

Daaamn, very very helpful tips. Thank you mate. Subsctibed and liked!
Great tutorial, I really learned a lot. And I'm starting to like the Fly App as it grows. Thanks for sharing.
Great explanation. Tnx for sharing. Just what I was looking for. Happy flying.
Great video Ed, I'll be getting the Air2s very soon. All new app coming from the old Mavic Pro . Looking forward to the upgrades. Thanks for making the transition so simple
Very helpful tutorial I've learned more info about the map.
Great informative video Ed , well done , I liked that ... REgards , Bill .
Good information i just fly based on memory this will help me save more battery now.
Wow Ed i thought i new about the map
Thanks for the info
Happy to help!
Thankyou. Very clear and concise. Learnt a lot.
Thank you!. Just bought one and love it. I was just flying it, now I know some stuff!
Great video and thanks for sharing. I am a new mini 2 owner and I am wondering what the blue pin is that appears on the map 9’ 18” I can get it to appear on my map sometimes but wondering if there is a use for it.
Is there anyway the drone can mark a position and save it's GPS co-ordinates? Would be good for scouting hunting areas and marking points of interest.
Good video.
Just after getting the mini 2
And that video was very useful 👍
I really like my mini 2. This thing is so awesome and easy to fly. And the Video? I haven't taken it out of 1080 yet, and the Video is GREAT! You have to get the flymore combo!! at least 3 batteries is Mandatory...if you can't fly the mini 2 then stay in bed....
That was an excellent video that explained the functions very well indeed. As an experienced user, it's pleasure to pick up something new- keep up these super tutorials! . I did wonder about your chosen flight location being under an airport flight path, as although fully legal, an uncommanded climb could be dangerous here.
Thank you I learned a lot, thumbs up and subscribed
Thank you very comprehensive good straight to the point 👍🏿
great tutorial as always thank you 👍👍👌
