shout out to this guy for repeatedly trying to pull down his shed from the inside out
hahahahh i was thinkn the same thing. I was like does he really have it strapped to the shelf?? I couldnt stop laughin this whole episode
@@petenice2956man knows for sure how to build a strong wood shelf
LMAO agreed
lol, it’s one heck of a strong shed to put up with that kind of abuse.
@@petenice2956 when he tears it down he gets to build a bigger one
That black wire over the CV joint had me very anxious!
Lol me too xD
agreed, I was thinking it was a module grounding wire ... which will then become an electrical issue
Yep, it’s the wire for the temperature sensor, I have now zip tied it to the frame
@@ratherBweldingChris thank you for the resolution!!!
Exact same reaction
buggy needs to have a butt lift;))
Agreed. I know you're from NC Chris, but the "Carolina Squat" look is out. And, always looked stupid as hell anyway :)
Yep, the elephant in the room...
carolina bug
BBL BUGGY
I came looking for this comment.
I think i'd be sending Caleb a couple cases of beer! Really enjoy your content.
With a name like Caleb, ask first.
Might prefer cherry soda
For sure . Even though we saw the edited version I could honestly feel Chris’s pain with this .
You get a second thumbs up for that burn out cloud
I gave him a like just for watching the burn out 😄
shutoff valve on the gas line will stop the overflow into the engine when sitting. I would also add stiffer or taller shocks on the Rear, have a Bad Carolina Squat on that bug.
I was just going to make same suggestion. 😊😊😊😊
Only nice thing about the back being low and soft, is that it will drift better but I do agree they need to be stiffer lol this thing is sitting super low in the resr
And the front needs lowered for sure
Chris, add a fuel shut off valve to prevent the flooding of the engine.
I did this to all the rider mowers I worked on for my friends repair company.
Snowmobiles have a lot more rolling resistance. They burn fuel like crazy. Having a direct to ground drivetrain drastically improves efficiency, so the 4.5 gallons of fuel will probably get you the same range as the 10+ gallons of the original tank.
The snowmobiles definitely have more friction in the drivetrain and being on wheels will certainly help but you also have to remember that 2 stroke engines are also not near as fuel efficient as a 4 stroke engine. I think he will be cutting it very close on any longer trail rides or especially a day in the sand.
If I remember which sled he had gotten the engine from it would be easier to figure out how much gas he would burn through. I know my older 2 stroke from 1978 would get about 15mpg. His being from the 90s should get at least that maybe 20mpg in sled form. With him not being at full throttle on trails, he might be able to go one route without having to refuel. But I still wouldn't want to risk it without knowing for sure. Can't have too big of a gas tank.
You’re gonna play hell getting that thing to wheelie with the rear being that soft. You need MUCH stiffer spring in the rear, to the point it doesn’t squat even when you’re in the seat. Front needs less ride height (you need some extension so it can transfer weight) but it looks good as is honestly. Just remember you want all your travel in the front and you’ll want rebound loose and compression on the tighter side. You need weight transfer to wheelie easy, you think having the rear squatted already would make it better but it’s worse. A CVT can do it easily but it’s hard on belts so you might wanna pack a spare.
Really, independent suspension, especially a trailing arm/semi-trailing arm design, is some of the worst possible geometry for lifting the front wheels. IMO it won't happen with STA unless he replaces the shocks with solid strut bars. That aside, if he wants not only something that can more easily wheelie (with the right 4-link geometry, at least) but a better handling suspension in general, I recommend a De-Dion axle with a Satchell Link. He'll be travel-limited on compression, though, since it's rear engine and all kinds of things will be in the way, but that shouldn't be too big of an issue, TBH.
I love all mini builds but this one is just amazing. Your work just gets better with time. Heck yeah.
words can not say how much i love your videos . i used to do all kinds of things like welding, home improvement , enduro/figure 8 racing , etc . i have a long story but i cant walk anymore . watching brings happiness to my life so thank you .
Snowmobiles go a long way on 10 gallons, and those tracks consume quite a bit of extra fuel to rotate. The good thing about roto packs like that is you will know exactly when to turn around 😉
Always good to listen to someone that has been where you are before! Good job giving the guy some credit.
That thing is so sick you are a genius bro . This is my favorite build out of all of your badass builds . I love Baja Bugs .
Man, Thanks to Caleb for that idea. I didn't even think to check the crank case for flooding. For the lights, those motors put out AC from the magneto, so in addition to the voltage regulator, you need something called a full bridge rectifier, matched with a high value Capacitor to get the voltage to 12 VDC. I actually did this to my own build on a snowmobile engine like yours to power my fan and lights and it works perfect. I'm thinking that in addition to being AC, you voltage regulator is bad.
Good call. Had to do the same on my sled for led headlights
Round yellow lights would be cool on the front when ou get the voltage figured out. Love this build man, great work!
I'd like to use my Call a Friend Regis ... lol ... always good to have someone with a lil more knowledge available We never saw the 3 days of frustration but could certainly hear it in your voice and how you were just about done. Really happy things worked out, it is a very cool project.
8:45 a wire is on the cv shaft and there something drripping behind the seat. Also love what youre doing, keep it up!
I was hoping he'd catch that before he caught it ;)
You say that the look is importantly to you so I think that you blowing up the led headlights is fortuitous. You can now replace them with ROUND mini headlights just like the original bug would have had😀
When it took Soo much effort to get it started don't just kill it after idling for 5 seconds! Dude! Open carbs up , get it warm, tune carbs, do as much work as it needs while it's running cause you want it to continue starting to be reliable so don't be in such a hurry to shut it off when it was a miracle you got it started. This advice is for every engine, every type, every configuration, rule of thumb bro. 👍🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻
you said it will be insanely fun to drive but for me it was insanely fun to watch this episode!
Here is one I hope you listen to comments make sure you turn off the gas everything it will save you a lot of trouble have a good one buddy I am glad you got it you are still my favorite builder bar none the best happy building
I really want to congratulate you for not giving up you always find a way to fix something I've been following you ever since you started man making things you getting better and better in your construction of all your vehicles that you do keep it on but you will be a millionaire soon
I love the style you gave it! Gives it a mad max look. Awesome job Chris ❤
The dirt shop kills me too, that thing is gonna rip!!! You're an amazing fabricator!!
That squat is crazy 😂 loving the build though, your creative mind is genius 👌
These (on snowmobiles) normally have a little hand pump that connects to small fuel lines... It looks like a choke handle.. You pump it a few times and it squirts fuel into the carbs. You should look those up and order one. They work great.
Aaah, the ceremonial thrashing of the shed ! Don't ever change Chris !
Sounded like she really cleaned out at the end of that burnout 👌
As a midwesterner who snowmobiles a lot I was basically screaming IT’S FLOODED! At least you got it running again lol
A gift for my birthday! =D
Bro, take the headlights from electric bikes. They can withstand up to 80 volts and some even more. Standard LED headlights are 12 volts, they are afraid of even small power surges.
🍺🤪👍🏼 Happy Birthday
Happy birthday mate. 🫵
Happy birthday to you
@@grobischmiede9301 Thanks! 😄
@@Dug159 Thanks! 😄
You've outgrown the shed shop. It's time to start looking for a real shop, my man. Also, snowmobiles are designed for long distance travel on national, and state trail systems many hundreds of miles long in some cases. That's why the tanks are so large. Born and raised Michigander here. Snowmobiles are everywhere, in my state. As a kid, my parents had Rupp 440, and 340 Nitro's. I first rode a sled at about 2 years of age, in front of my dad, and mom, both, on both sleds. A few years later, I learned to ride alone, on both sleds, and rode most winters on both, until I was about 17 yrs old. the 340 wasn't much slower than the 440. Both were quick, for their time.
That little shed/shop is actually pretty bad ass.
Good amount of space, I assume no permits to build it, and very well organized, and super simple layout.
Absolutely love it.
really need to beef up those rear shocks and tighten that CVT belt
That's one happy guy getting it running.I know it's a bug but it looks much better without the body and you can see all your work
I love watching videos of your favorite RUclipsrs and getting proud for their accomplishments
I think once you get a paint job on it and everything, it will look fine with the spare gas tanks. I personally think it would look bad ass painted in a military color scheme. Some olive green, and black. Would help make the tanks look like a natural part of the build too. But it's been great watching this mini bug come to life! Great work!
OUTSTANDING CHRIS!!!
Love Your Channel
and Your BaAss Builds! ☮️
Either raise the rear end or lower the front end it looks ridiculous with the front end up high like that
Lower the front end slightly and get a hell of a lot stiffer shocks on the rear end.
This channel is one of my favorites.and the most honest personalities on RUclips. Mustie1 sent me.
Chris you Rock brother!! I goin to watch this vid on the big screen!
Rise the back or lower the front...........
Well this is a monumental win. Just an oil change... ok and carb rebuild. Very cool.
That's an awesome, compact little buggy, even without the body. This is gonna be mad fun to drive.
Front suspension needs some droop. Or rear needs more spring.
Your fab skills and build quality is amazing. Especially considering your shop limitations. Very impressive
Good work sticking with it! Good for you.
Carburetor: the main reason to have a fuel shutoff on the tank and always shut it off at night. Theres 2 types of needles and seats in them, one designed for a pump and one designed for gravity fed fuel. Make sure you have the correct needle and seat in there so it doesnt happen all the time.
Such a bad ass build !! Probably my favorite of yours so far!
Man i cant wait to see this thing all painted up!! You need to do a heavy flake graphic on that shell like those crazy paddle buggies lol
Capacitive Discharge Ignition CDI, is electronic ignition. meaning there are no points. whenever an engine is flooded, you will want to
have the choke off and the throttle wide open. because the engine needs all the air it can get.
pod filters could be a solution to the air box situation. UNI FILTER makes good pod filters with pre cleaners. I have one on my quad and it's better than the stock air box.
Love the burnouts! Great to watch video again.
This thing I so Badass, clean well done fabrication! Can’t wait to see it rip!
You have to raise the back side. Stifer or longer springs on the rear. Very nice project
Insane amount of time spent on this thing and you have top notch skills !! Put shut off fuel valve to stop flooding the engine...Be careful to not flip this crazy thing over ! 😀
Lift it from back little more and you good to go
Haven't made it through the whole video so I'm not sure if it's being covered or not, but I would suggest rubber isolation mounts for that CDI box direct mounting it and vibration can be a real killer sometimes for those older cdis
Looks at least on camera as if it pulls a lot better without the air box. I already was happy that he added a second intake tube.
The best part of the auxiliary tank mount, cargo space for an overlanding trip.
The portion of the video that begins at 8:07 (more or less) immediately reminded me of the scene toward the end of a rather good 1965 movie called "The Flight of the Phoenix" where the stranded group finally managed to get the engine on their cobbled together aircraft running. The movie stars James Stewart, Richard Attenborough and Peter Finch. (I highly recommend that movie, by the way, and I'm sure it must be available for streaming somewhere or other.)
So sick! It’d look good with a light bar on the front.
Stands in front of rear wheel with the car pulling on a leg of the shelf hahaha. Imagine if the shelf leg broke! Hahaha this guys cracks me up… got a little smoky.. wire about to rub through on the cv joint haha! I love it.. constant anxiety for me on each camera shot lol
19:54 - the reason the primary "slams closed" is because A: there's no load on it, and B: it's not a constant mesh drive... like those made by Team/etc., with a centrifugal or manual clutch to provide the take-up.
Perfectly normal. Just be aware of how much more load you're putting on that drive. It's fine for its intended application (snowmobile)... but more weight, PLUS more traction puts a LOT more dynamic load on that belt. I would keep several on-hand... and if that conical drive has serviceable plates, I'd order a few of those too.
The bug came out sweet! I do think it needs longer shocks in the back. Or something too raise it a bit
You should paint it like the Hoonigan bug! That would be cool. And maybe they would let you race against it! Thatd be dope
Need to refill that floor jack with oil since it keeps slowly lowering like that. Also, I LOVE how 3-cyl 2-strokes sound. As for the airbox, yeah, at least double the size of the box, itself, then give it either bigger twin tubes (and bigger filters on them) or triple intake tubes on the box wrapped around the back rail.
It is a joy to watch you fabricate off road cars ..
I’m sure you know this already , but I think you really need longer shocks and probably should move the mounting points on the rear arms closer to the wheels .. I think the leverage on those springs being at the pivot point is off the charts …..
Keep up the great work!!!
Tires look great. Best tires ever . Put them on all my buggy’s
Looks like a mad science shack with the smoke.
And looks like you have to change out does chocks because you’re going to bodem out.
Man I bet that engine would sound really really ridiculously nice with three Turnpike expansion Chambers and 3 FM silencers for a Banshee I bet would sound ridiculously awesome
Dude...what an awesome build....and love the squat. I don't care what anyone says it kinda adds to the buggy look. Yeah, it could be lifted a bit, but leave the squat some at least, if your suspension is good enough. Looks amazing though...sooo badass!!
And you look so funny in it...almost like the Mason parade go karts. Too funny...and the clip photo for the video listing looks soo funny.
Allsome work buddy from cruzermans inventions 😁👍🦇🌟
My favorite build yet
spray the inside of the fiberglass with rubberized bedliner too. it'll help with vibrations and strength. PPL do it a lot on flares and bedsides to protect those.
It just keeps getting better
Yes!!! Epoxy. Now. Not later when it's too late. Lol!
Looks good!
You can move the gas can monts forward and lower to lay the cans on there side to lower the profile..It may work!
Someone needs to make a tyre smoke flavour vape ! That thing rips dude 👍
You should store that tyre smoke if you like it so much. You could take small inhales in bed when going to sleep.
You need a push broom brother!🤙
The 90s early 2000s polaris 2 stroke atvs are the same way. If the bottom end gets fuel in it, won’t start till it’s drained. Now you got the last spare CDI!
Looks awesome cat wait to see you take it out and rip it
Nice work, the flooded pump casing served you as an experience for the future, otherwise I enjoyed seeing the project grow. I would put a pair of slightly longer and slightly stiffer springs in the rear suspension. It has a seated appearance.
great job!!! please get round headlights to replace the burnt out ones. will highlight the original "Bug" look!!
Def ned to beef up the back suspension. Tail bone 🦴 is outta there off a 4” jump… lol
Definitely got something of a Carolina Squat about it.
Chris, been watching you for a while now and I'm amazed at your fab skills. You need to consider buying a piece of property where you don't drive your neighbors and parents nutso.
Looking to changing the springs and weights on your primary and secondary. I know you can change your torque band for more "out of the hole" power versus mid/top end.
Great projects, I truly enjoy watching.
A lot of Chinese CDI modules are filled with sand then capped off with rubberized epoxy. They are usually destroyed by getting wet as the sand absorbs and holds conductive moisture
when wet, and getting wet is usually game over for that type of module. It always pays to add way more waterproofing when using them.
Best burnout ever.
When I once modified the ignition system in an Audi, I replaced the ignition coil with one from another model. Originally it had 3 pins and this replacement had 4 pins plug. The difference was that the 4th pin was actually ground, and in the previous coil the ground was screwed in a different place. After modifying and connecting this pin to the old grounding, everything worked.
So it's possible that other CDIs would work, you just need to analyze it and connect it correctly - probably change the plug.
Once I had a Chinese engine installed in my bicycle and the spark plugs were flooding with fuel and oil, what helped is removal of the spark plugs and heat them on a gas burner to clean them well. And since you turned the engine so much to make sure that the oil from the dispenser reaches the engine, maybe this is it
Nice one, looking and sounding great, I’m with you on the gas packs, it’s not really doing it but I suppose once you get some paint on it!!👍👍
2 stroke engines need to be “cleared out” by obnoxious Revs until it goes wot without bogging. Watch a motorcross race from the late 90’s early 2k’s and listen to them rev the engine to the moon for 2 or 3 minutes straight to get to operating temperature and clean the engine out of unburnt 2 stroke oil and clear the carb and power reeds out. Give it time to warm up to operating temp and a few revs before trying to go wide open throttle, that’s why it was running better the more you ran it. Awesome build man you fkn rock🤘🏼
You need a bridge rectifier for the lights...your engine puts out ac voltage...I did the same thing with tje same lights...use the ground and hot on the rectifier just for the lights...
Lower gear/bigger tires wheelie for hours 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I would have turned them sideways and put them in the middle of the door, I really like the look of them.... I can't wait to see it painted, it's going to look so good. I'm hoping he paints the frame red, the suspension parts black and the body in matte black.... The red frame popping out of the top would look awesome, especially if he grinds down the frame behind his head for helmet clearance. Great job.... Keep up the great work. 😁👍❤️
Have to re jet these for warmer weather
This thing turned out AWESOME!! Great job!
This should be a rc car, your nuts for getting in that seat
Careful, the "Carolina Squat" has been banned by a couple of different states now!
Love your videos, I can't wait for your next video!
That’s my favorite thing you have built so far. Looks amazing and like so much fun.
This rubber was sensational 😂
