The engine is $2000 and it's honestly a good price.
You can't compare an old, used and mass produced roadcar engine to something like this.
These little engines are CNC milled from billet aluminum and have 3d printed stainless parts. There are probably thousands of hours in design, and hundreds of hours of manufacturing total for each engine.
Low volume production with many people involved using some very expensive machinery.
If these were made in the US they would probably cost $10.000+ with all the hours involved.
It's like comparing an old, used Ikea wall clock from Craigslist to a brand new Rolex.

Looks like Cison actually did it right this time! Fully supported crank with full pressure lubrication. A decent cam grind, and relatively good fuel distribution. I think they could have rear-mounted the distributor to more closely resemble the SBC that it seems to be based on, but even so, it cranks, and runs and actually has a reasonable idle for it's size (which will probably get better as it breaks in). What's really impressive is it actually runs on pump gas, so you don't have to buy ridiculously expensive nitro fuel, and it will stay a lot cleaner as well!! Curious to see what you come up with for this thing to drive! Nice work Johnny!😄👍👍👍

@@ferrumignis unfortunately, it doesn't look like they are pressure fed. I can't see any passage for it to get there while under pressure. The oil pipe that's installed above the camshaft looks like it's only supplying oil to each cam lobe to lubricate them and the lifters. For the valve train - in the build manual there is an optional add on of oil to the head. There's a port at the center of the rear of each head (visible at 9:35) which looks like it connects to an outlet that is between each valve pair and the hold down screw for the rocker shaft (visible 9:16). The rocker shaft has a hole that lines up with each of these holes. It looks like you run another tube from the oil pump to the rear of the heads

    • @corey_nz

      @corey_nz 5 месяцев назад

While we're on the topic of the oiling system, he missed showing installing the oil pick up tube. At 5:31 you can see an untapped hole beside the rear main cap. This has a tube pushed into it that goes down into the sump. From there, I assume it goes straight into the oil filter. But I can't quite figure out how oil gets from the filter to the oil pump - I think there may be a passage drilled from the front of the block to the rear where the oil filter outlet is. The oil pump inlet looks like it would then join into that passage and I think a bung is inserted into the passage at the very front of the block - visible at 5:31

Nice job Johnny! This kit reminds me of a model kit that they sold in the 1960's..."The Visible V8". It was a plastic model kit of a V8 engine made by a company called Renwal....battery operated. No fuel. But this kit you have is unreal....all metal too. Pretty wild.

A few criticisms of the engine:
    1. Belt driven oil pump instead of gear driven. Not a big deal for a desk model, but if you put this in a model car and drive it around, it will destroy the engine very quickly if that belt ever snaps or loses tension.
    2. Setscrew on the dizzy gear.
    3. No oil in the heads. Valvetrain needs lubricant too.
    4. Cam timing by "both flat spots need to be up" is imprecise. Lining up markings on the gear teeth would be better.
    5. Ring gaps could probably be tighter.
    Pros:
The computerized ignition is rather cool for such a small engine.
    Fully supported crank.

These engines are nice models but not good power plants for a model. Your so much better off going with a nitro model engine, or "weed whacker" engine (in larger models), or electric for models. A Nitro car engine of only 3.5cc (0.21ci) displacement can produce upwards of 2 horsepower and weighs less than a pound (350g or so) giving it over 2hp per lb of mass. By comparison your typical electric e-bike is usually around 1hp. If model performance is not a factor and you want a visible, scale looking engine then sure, use one of these engines where the engine is a model in it's own right but for a good performing, reliable, usable model use the motors that are meant to power models.

Will allow oil to be shot up to the valve train and drained down over the push rods and lifters. And still shoot oil onto the cam/crank.
