Will you need to re-flock this each year? Just curious if this is something that you could put in storage and get it out again to use, or if it will get damaged in storage and is a one year thing?
Great question, Trina. We put our tree away and will do an update video once we take it out for the this upcoming holiday season. My guess is you may have to add flock to it each year but I'm not 100% sure just yet.
Love it! Just a quick note to everyone, although we do sell out very quickly, a single 5 pound box of SnoFlock is tons of material and you can easily flock up to a 10' tree with a single box.
This is exactly what I want to do with my tree. After watching lots of tutorials, I honestly think your technique is the best here on youtube. I like the heavy flocking you did. It looks like real snow, the more snow the better :)
Here it is almost a year later and I just found your video on flocking a Christmas tree and I am so happy that I did. Your tree turned out looking very pretty. I definitely want to try and do this. Thank you for sharing this idea.
I ordered directly from seasonsreflections on their website at a slightly lower price than amazon. Due to age I paid extra on tools to spare my hands. Bed, Bath, and Beyond sells a battery operated sifter. All you do is flip the switch once for a steady shower of snoflock. Now and then, dump the contents of the sifter and refill to get rid of accumulated larger chunks. I also bought primo quality spray misters from a local beauty supply store. You can pump the trigger once and the mist continues for several seconds. The smaller size bottle was less strain to use. I scooped a good quantity of powder out of the box and into a covered bowl. I filled the sifter from the bowl with a ladle. By using the bowl I avoided contaminating the Snoflock box. My tree has green wiring LED lights, but I had hidden the wires by careful wrapping and the flock is hiding what was still exposed. The led light bulbs are much smaller than incandescent so I masked them all with painters tape before flocking (tedious but probably less work than cleaning all the bulbs after flocking. I have slow glow twinkle lights and enjoy them too much to bury them in flock. Snoflock contains water-activated adhesive so do wear a mask to avoid clogging your lungs. Chase away the kids and the pets. The wet product is very slippery underfoot. Working outdoors avoids messy cleanup. You can use a breezy day to advantage if you keep moving so that the breeze blows the powder onto the tree. I am a smoker so I prewashed the tree. I sprayed a mild household cleaner on the greenery. Then dumped buckets of water on them to rinse (no garden hose at the moment). The rinsing water was not as dirty as I feared. I had applied WD40 to the exposed metal at the tree trunk so it would help repel excess water. I am hoping to learn if I can wash a flocked tree. I hear DIY flocking does need a touch up coat every few years so maybe that will be sufficient. I will force myself to wait many long days before I plug in the lights again. Note that my lights are rated for indoor/outdoor use so they are designed to withstand periodic rain, snow, sleet, and hail. To be on the safe side, I will wait until the entire tree is bone dry before adding electricity. Both Snobond and Snoflock claim to be the original best product, but I could not find a consumer review for comparison. Buyer beware because I bought Snobond on amazon before buying Snoflock. The Snobond delivery never arrived, the seller did not respond, and I did not get a refund. My snoflock purchase arrived promptly complete with an instruction brochure. When I was done with the flock I applied a final misting over the entire tree. While that last misting was still wet, I sprinkled Diamond Dust glitter (pulverized clear glass) over the flock. Snoflock does contain iridescent flakes to simulate sparkling snow but I want a snow and ice theme with tons of sparkle.
THANKS MICHY....I didn't even know we could FLOCK our OWN tress. YESSSS...we can FLOCK Christmas Tress with Michy... NICE video.. ... @FlockChristmasTree with Michy thanks.
I grew up with my mom flocking our real cut trees. My Aunt flocked her tree pink one year. We used a “flocking gun” which worked like the devices you use to fertilize your yard, putting the product in the container and hooking up to the hose (sort of). Here’s how it worked. You put water in the container and then connect the bag of flock to the “gun”. Lastly you connect your vacuum hose with it attached to the OUTPUT so it blows instead of sucks. It worked so much better than using a spray bottle of water and sprinkling on the flocking. I’m thinking it’s time to bring the guns back. Maybe I’ll design one and put it in production. The guns are reusable so they last for a long long time.
its pleasing to see what people come up with on diy videosi was going to try and just spray paint mine but this looks better lol thanks for sharing this with us
You can definitely spray paint it but it doesn't give that snow effect like the flocking powder does. If you flock your tree, let me know what you think. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi Kyla! It should last the lifetime of the tree if properly taken care of. This is the second year for us and while some of the flocking came off, it still looks really nice! Hope that helps!
Wow, this was SO helpful, thank you so much for this video!! The tree turned out incredible, it looks just like real snow. I bought 3 cans of flocking spray and was going to use them this weekend.... I’m so glad I saw this, I can’t thank you enough! ❤️
Oh my goodness I live in Kennesaw & started a channel a little over a year ago and I am planning on doing a video showing my viewers how to flock my Christmas tree for this year so I got so so excited when I found your video and your channel and even more excited when you said you live in Atlanta!! So exciting hehe🎄👏🏻
Hello to my fellow Atlanta RUclips buddy! Thanks for stopping by, can’t wait to see how your flocking video turns out. It was so much fun and I’ll be sharing a few updates this year! 🎄❤️
Although yours turned out beautifully, it may be a suggestion to do a row of branches at a time, whilst keeping the rows above tied with string. This allows you to use your sieve more effectively for a more even treatment should you be doing a lighter one. It is a chore, but what I have done is to start at the top of a section and tie branches row by row, with a separate piece of string. Then you leave the bottom one open and fluff that and work from there. xx
Thanks! It was a lot of fun. Messy but fun 🤩 And yes it’s a bit of a mess to clean up after the holidays but nothing a good vacuum can’t handle. It’s really easy to clean up and looks worse than it will be to clean, I promise. Good luck with your flocking! It really makes a huge difference with your tree. 😃
@@MedalsandMagic Thanks for the reply!! I bought a pretty big real tree. Maybe 9.5 ft and used the whole 5 lbs bag. Ordering 4 more lbs as we want that blizzard effect 👍😃 Thanks again!
How was storing the tree after the season? Does it store well for a year and still look pretty much the same or do you need to touch it up year after year?
It’s a mess to put away and a mess to set up again. Only needed to touch up a few spots but I just turned the tree so you couldn’t see the green spots 😂
For flocking the lower branches that are hard to get to with the large mesh strainer, why not try adding the flocking mixture that you make up into a hand held flour sifter? You can purchase one for less than $5.00 at Walmart.
Yes, unfortunately it is a mess. However, once it is in place it doesn’t fall off unless shaken or run into. Overall it doesn’t fall off easily but does make a mess when being moved.
Hi there! The tree I flocked was an indoor pre lit tree and we had no issues. I highly recommend flocking it outdoors though as it is very messy. Be sure to use a mask so you’re not inhaling the powder
Yes water with the powder makes it work. You spray it with water after applying the snowflock to make it stick. And yes the snow adhered to the branches too, we are still amazed how nice it turned out. 😍
I know this is an old video, I’ve been reading and watching a lot and one thing that the manufacturer strongly says to do is to spray the flock with water as it’s falling from the straining. They say it is a must for best results.
I don't believe it will damage the lights already installed on the tree but I would check with the company that creates the flock you purchase (I highly recommend @seasonsreflections) and inquire with them to be sure.
I flocked my tree last week. I bought the 25 lb bag since I had a lot to flock. Mine turned out great on my older tree. My daughter has a newer, much more expensive tree and hers is falling off like crazy. Her tree has some plastic realistic looking branches and some of the older looking more traditional looking branches. It’s falling off the plastic branches. Any advice.
Oh that's a great but tough question. If she is using the seasons reflections product, I would reach out to their support team to inquire about next steps. David from their team is super helpful and I know they would be able to offer some insight and advice. Let me know what they say, I haven't experienced this issue and I'm curious what the solution is as well.
We get a real tree an I really wanna do a lights flocking but kinda heavy on the tips. should I hand the lights first or after? I’ve been some people complain about the snow on the light 🤷🏽♀️
Oh that's a great question and you may need to reach out to the company you purchase your flocking powder from. For us, we waiting and added the lights after we flocked the tree. That's mostly because I was nervous to flock the lights and they not be visible since we did a heavier flocking look. I hope that helps! Good luck and keep me updated on what you do. 😃
Back about 20 years ago SnoFloc used to make a flocking gun that mixed water and flock together at the same time . It used to connect to a vacuum cleaner reverse blow out hose. They discontinued it 😡 It had been around since the 50's
I’ve heard so much about it and wish I could have had my hands on it. Someone told me you could use the same “gun” they use for doing spider webs for Halloween but I’ve never tried it.
I only used 1 of the 5 pound boxes for our 7.5ft tree. As you can see our tree is on the heavier side for the flocking. Good luck! Tag me in your photos when you’re done. I’d love to see how it turns out. 😃
Oh, I would be super curious to find out. My guess is yes the canned snow would come off pretty easy but since I haven’t worked with it I am not really sure what would happen. Let me know how it goes if you try it 😃
Oh that’s a great question! I’m not sure but now that you ask I’m going to be watching it throughout the year to see. My initial reaction would say no but you never know?! I’ll definitely keep researching this next year to see.
It can be if the flocking hasn’t fully dried or sprayed enough to adhere to the tree. I bought a tree bag and it helped a ton with the extra bits that fell off.
How much of the flock did you end up using all 10lbs? I'm going to purchase flock today for our 7.5 tree so want to get a good idea of how much to get?
Only 24 hours and that’s because we had rain move into our area. The directions say to leave it outside for 48 hours. Luckily we kept it in our foyer for an additional day so it wasn’t too bad and was dry by the time we moved it. 😃
hi, I just subscribed to your channel. because I want to do that with my tree this year. Just one question, does the water make the snow stick to the tree? or does it fall everywhere?
Hi Nancy! Thanks for subscribing! The water helps the powder to solidify and adhere to the tree. If properly dried it should last a while however it does shed if moved so be prepared for that. Ours wasn’t too bad and the “snow” is easy to clean with a vacuum. But if the tree isn’t moved or messed with then it stays perfectly. Hope that makes sense. Good luck with your tree! It’s really a fun process and truly transformed the entire look of the tree.
Thank you! And yes, the lights that were still on the tree were the ones that came with the tree that haven’t worked in a few years. We purchased four new strands of white wire lights and put them up after we finished applying the SnowFlock.
I actually had no issue hanging ornaments at all. It doesn't affect the branches. And can make the ornaments "pop" more agains the heavy white snow effect.
I would like to know when the season is finish, does the Christmas tree will stay the same or I have to do it again? Sorry for my writing in English it's not to good.
Great question! I know some of it will fall off when we take the tree down. I’m not sure if you will have to do it again as this was the first time we have tried it. I will definitely do an update at the end of the season. Thank you for watching. 😃
Hi Dave! Yes, it held up really well. Some pieces did fall off but not too bad overall. I'll have to give it another coat next year but it still looks great this year!
Michy, how are you using the gloves? Are they doing something different than protecting your hands? I guess I sound dumb but truly have no idea how to really fluff the tree correctly.
Great question, Christa! I use them to protect my arms and hands while I fluff the tree. Expanding the branches that were “smushed” while in storage for the last year. The gloves made it super easy to get to the back of the branches near the inside center of the tree. It definitely made a huge difference because I wasn’t all scraped up so I could take my time to make the branches look more natural. I hope that’s helpful. 😃
I am trying this this year only problem i am having is how to do mine. It the old kind that are in pieces. 7.5 ft and each row of branches are in pieces.
While it may take longer to flock and install, I think the branches being in pieces will be make it look so realistic. Take your time and have lots of fun. It’s an undertaking but so worth it! Good luck!
Geez! You did an amazing job! A new subscriber here. How I wish Amazon delivers to The Philippines but they don't. And if they do, the tax would be ridiculously high! If I purchase a flocked tree from the mall or online, it will cost me a fortune. 😔😔😔
Such a great video, I really love it and I want to try it too... but I have a couple of questions... I should flocking every year? It’s easy to take off (my tree is gonna be green, again)? Thank you in advance.
I just took my tree out from last year. Some of the flock did fall off but the tree overall still looks beautiful! The flocking does not come off easily once applied so I would be prepared that your tree may not be green again. I haven’t tried this so I’m not 100% certain of that, if anything reach out to the Seasons Reflections team. They are always so helpful with questions. Thanks for watching! Have fun flocking! 🎄😃
I wonder if the snow will bother my cats..i have two .They like to sleep under the tree, and sometime they will play withthe branches....Thank you very much ...Merry Christmas.
It’s a glucose based product and not harmful, however, I understand the concern and would encourage you to reach out to the team at Seasons Reflections to see their thoughts. Merry Christmas!
The price is not so bad when you consider the price of buying a flocked tree. Also, a little of the product goes a long way. There are household products to simulate flocking (spray paint, wall plaster, etc) but they are messy and don't hold up as well. One word of caution. The Sno-Flock powder contains a water activated adhesive. You don't want that in your lungs so be sure to wear a dust mask and chase the pets and kids away.
Has anyone mentioned to wear a mask when they use this? I did it and about choked to death. It’s not for people with bad lungs. That’s for sure. I wouldn’t recommend to do it inside either. Just saying.
I will never apologize for who I am or how I present the items I work on. That’s the beauty of this platform, there are a billion other videos you can watch instead. How about spreading kindness instead of being rude. ✌🏻

So how does it do in storage? I was just curious if the flock falls off.
The flocking came off a little bit but not too much.
Just water makes the snow stick? After you sprayed it the fins time, did the snow adhere to the branches well?

It can be if the flocking hasn’t fully dried or sprayed enough to adhere to the tree. I bought a tree bag and it helped a ton with the extra bits that fell off.
Thanks, It,s a pity, in Spain se cant find
Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing! Have a great marathon this weekend.... Warm weather here in Orlando all weekend. Be safe and have fun!
Thank you for watching. The weather for the half was brutal but I finished! 😍 Now to go play in the parks and celebrate - yay!
It looks very nice. Did you use both boxes?
Thank you! Great question - I ended up only needing one entire box to achieve this look.
Years ago when this flock tree was in trends and still now probably, just wondering if it turns yellow or browny after few yr.
Mine is still white, three years later. No fading or discoloration at all.
How much of the flock did you end up using all 10lbs? I'm going to purchase flock today for our 7.5 tree so want to get a good idea of how much to get?
We ended up using an entire box (5 pounds total)
looks so good! how long did you leave it outside to dry??
@@MedalsandMagic thanks 😊
@@MedalsandMagic how long would you say it lasts?
Hi Destiny! It should be permanent and last the lifetime of the tree.
turned out great i noticed you still had lights on it while you were doing it.
Thank you! And yes, the lights that were still on the tree were the ones that came with the tree that haven’t worked in a few years. We purchased four new strands of white wire lights and put them up after we finished applying the SnowFlock.
When you apply it so heavily, how do you get the ornaments to hang naturally?
Is it possible to take it off the tree later?
No, I don’t believe so.
Is this still holding up? Did it ever turn yellow?
Still holding up, although I retired the tree this year due to it being almost 9 years old.
How many boxes of snow flock did you use on that tree?
Hi Brittany! I used one box from Seasons Reflections. It is the 5lb box linked in the description box.
It’s so beautiful!!!! Did you use all 10 pounds?
Thank you, Takoya! I only used 1 of the 5lb boxes I purchased.
@@MedalsandMagic You’re very welcome!
Can’t get SnoFlock in UK. Can anyone recommend another make that we can get here?
I’ll keep searching. Not sure of an alternative
How much does the powder fall off, especially when applying ornaments? And when you pack up the tree post-christmas?
If you apply it correctly and let it dry thoroughly, the flocking isn’t messy. We had a few pieces fall off from the ornaments but it was minimal.
Where can i buy this snoflock?
You can purchase it on Amazon. amzn.to/3DX92Wx
Good luck!
How much snoflock did you use on your tree
One 5lb box and still had extra remaining.
How I would do if my tree come with light and I can remove them
No need to remove the lights. The flocking easily comes off of the pre-installed lighting once it dries.
Geez! You did an amazing job! A new subscriber here.
How I wish Amazon delivers to The Philippines but they don't. And if they do, the tax would be ridiculously high! If I purchase a flocked tree from the mall or online, it will cost me a fortune. 😔😔😔
Thanks so much! Hopefully you can get access to these products soon.
How much flock did you need?
Saw the answer, Amazon is not selling the 5 lb box anymore
Oh no! Keep looking. They usually restock in July/August.
Great advice! The mask for your lungs is a definite must have for this project. Thanks so much for sharing.
Is this permanent?
Yes
I’m guessing that’s a no for prelit trees? 😢
This is a prelit tree. I just added additional lights 😃
It doesn’t stick. When you have to take it down it all falls off
It’s not been sprayed enough then and allowed enough time to dry. Use more water and it should help adhere it to the branches
Has anyone mentioned to wear a mask when they use this? I did it and about choked to death. It’s not for people with bad lungs. That’s for sure. I wouldn’t recommend to do it inside either. Just saying.
I mention it in the video twice to do this outside and to wear a mask.
U talk way too much. Sorry
I will never apologize for who I am or how I present the items I work on. That’s the beauty of this platform, there are a billion other videos you can watch instead. How about spreading kindness instead of being rude. ✌🏻
