The reason freed slaves didn't get it was because a Democrat president (Andrew Jackson) was against it. They also could have received it through the Homestead Act, but they were too cowardly to take the land offered to them.
It's because we did not earn it and don't forget mules don't breed. we can't get blacks to harvest someone else farm so i know giving us 40 acres of land will not work if we have to do the up keep ourselves.

The reason why we can’t move on is because not only was there no restorative actions taken to repair a people broken by governmentally approved human rights violations, there is no acknowledgment of the centuries of systematic oppression placed on the same people. The things intentionally done to separate our families in the 1960’s, regans war on drugs. Even old Current mister Presidents crime bills are just the chickens coming home to roost for our communities. The fatherless children, the drug problems, the fatherless girls who become single mothers. While I absolutely endorse self accountability and acceptance for poor decisions, I am not delusional enough to pretend that I don’t see these things that were intentionally put in place to get us here in masses. As far as the first slave owner being black I will have to research it. But interesting in my research I have found that mostly black slave owners they try to throw in our faces were actually black people from Spain and Europe but were classified as Free White Men through the naturalization act. Also, most of their so called slaves were actually there family members (wives, children, parents, etc) they were considered the man of the households property, especially if he had land. They were then eventually reclassified as black after the 1870 census where you can see clearly those slaves were their family members. Fully learning that we’ve been tricked by paper work in the past, so we stop falling for the banana in the tailpipe is a start of fixing our communities

He was injured during WWII they just discharged many injured black soldiers didn’t ’honorably’ discharge them which made it hard, or impossible to use their benefits when they returned home. Also on top of that my family is from the South and segregation laws also did not allow for him to fully benefit from the Gi Bill because of blatant racism and accusations of trying to be “an uppity colored.’ The injustices of the past that were never made right still impact our people today. There is no generational wealth because of stolen wealth, stolen identity relegates us to black, or African Americans. Many, many black Americans wouldn’t qualify. You’d have to prove without a doubt the specific ancestor who was enslaved, provide historical documents, dna etc to prove the familial relation. Also, it would be paid to the head of household, not each. It’s just a political stunt they have no intention of handing out cash. Don’t be naïve

I liked Byron Donald until now. I was born here, but my parents came from another country. I grew up in the 50's with friends that picked cotton in the south I support their reparations. Cut the check Byron, jump in the lake. It's because of American Black's that other Black's were able to come here.

Already a Trump appointed maga judge and court in Oklahoma dismissed the call for reparations for the last survivors of the Tulsa OK massacre. These elders were ignored and rejected for requesting they be compensated since their family, possessions, property and lives were taken away from them when they were very young. Reparations isn’t just about slavery, at least for me, it’s about correcting systemic injustices. Perhaps different levels of injustice. We also need to know more about all govt programs like cointelpro, the infiltration of HipHop, etc.

I agree with you, immigrants knowingly came to a a country that was wrought with racism and discrimination! They came seeking provisions, property, wealth that the enslaved created, maintained, and fought in wars for while our ancestors did not get to enjoy and we still have not been made solvent! I hear too many immigrants and even Black (whitewashed) Americans use this argument that they should not be made to pay into reparations because they didn’t commit these atrocities, well you came to country that its’ government owes a financial and spiritual debt to ADOS. Immigrants have received government subsidies, security and assistance from my Black tax dollars, my Black labor and income, my Black existence, the government enshrined and sanctioned the theft, lynchings, brutality, corruption of the Black American people.
I was adopted to a similar family that Byron Donalds says his family is from. They were Panamanian/Jamaican. My biological mom who I got to establish a loving relationship in my 20s has roots in Alabama. I would be the only one that would qualify for reparations. However knowing how my dearly departed mom who raised me was, I believe she’d supported both me and others getting reparations. Heck, I know I’d helped her with the money I received. Our heroes such as Shirley Chisholm and Marcus Garvey wouldn’t have qualified for reparations. It stands to reason that they woulda been at the forefront calling for the descendants of enslaved Afro Americans to receive reparations. It all basically comes down to one’s own principles and courage. Neither of which Donalds has. There’s one thing that Donalds deliberately and continuously does when talking about Jim Crow is say that it ended in 1964. He claims it ended with the passing of LBJ’s Civil Rights Act. He purposely leaves out the Voting Rights Act which was passed in 1965. This act really ended a major Jim Crow law. The March from Selma occurred in March of 1965. Some might say I’m nitpicking, but I don’t believe that Byron is ignorant of this fact. He’s purposely putting it at 1964 so he can continue to spin much of the dangerous narratives he spins. He did that before when he first started mentioning Jim Crow and got himself in trouble. The problem was jokers like Joy Reid harped on the wrong things which was focused on gaslighting his comments for their personal bootlick gains.

Reparations ARE THE LAW. "Forty acres and a mule" never got fufilled. The US GOVERNMENT promised that BYRON. The entity YOU work for. Fufill the promise or get out of the way.
Any African American that can trace their lineage back to the 1870s through the U.S. census should be eligible. I can trace my roots on my father side to Texas, Louisiana and my mother side to Oklahoma & Arkansas. My paternal great grandfather told us his father was an overseer on a plantation in Guyana because the French invaded and mixed with them.
The problem is they paid the slave owners for losing their property = the slaves. The 14th amendment also says the government shall NOT pay any debt incurred as the result of an insurrection. Well we know that isnt true.

Ancestors didn’t choose to work for free and didn’t choose to be stripped of their human identity, any earned wage that could turn into inheritance, and their inalienable rights. Segregation laws were states laws that allowed unchained slavery to continue via open discriminatory practices in every aspect in this country from jobs, education, healthcare, housing etc., it still negatively impacts black Americans today. There were Black AND Indian slave owners...and whether it happened during the period of chattel slavery or one day after the Proclamation...it is documented. And "no", it wouldn't be "a thousand eligible Black people..." getting checks - half of those counting themselves a "Black" on the Census documents would be storming whatever building they set up [to take applications] to apply (or burn it down if they're rejected).

He was injured during WWII they just discharged many injured black soldiers didn’t ’honorably’ discharge them which made it hard, or impossible to use their benefits when they returned home. Also on top of that my family is from the South and segregation laws also did not allow for him to fully benefit from the Gi Bill because of blatant racism and accusations of trying to be “an uppity colored.’ The injustices of the past that were never made right still impact our people today. Many, many black Americans wouldn’t qualify. You’d have to prove without a doubt the specific ancestor who was enslaved, provide historical documents, dna etc to prove the familial relation. I agree with you, immigrants knowingly came to a a country that was wrought with racism and discrimination! They came seeking provisions, property, wealth that the enslaved created, maintained, and fought in wars for while our ancestors did not get to enjoy and we still have not been made solvent! I hear too many immigrants and even Black (whitewashed) Americans use this argument that they should not be made to pay into reparations because they didn’t commit these atrocities, well you came to country that its’ government owes a financial and spiritual debt to ADOS. Immigrants have received government subsidies, security and assistance from my Black tax dollars, my Black labor and income, my Black existence, the government enshrined and sanctioned the theft, lynchings, brutality, corruption of the Black American people.
I was adopted to a similar family that Byron Donalds says his family is from. They were Panamanian/Jamaican. My biological mom who I got to establish a loving relationship in my 20s has roots in Alabama. I would be the only one that would qualify for reparations. However knowing how my dearly departed mom who raised me was, I believe she’d supported both me and others getting reparations. Heck, I know I’d helped her with the money I received. Our heroes such as Shirley Chisholm and Marcus Garvey wouldn’t have qualified for reparations. It stands to reason that they woulda been at the forefront calling for the descendants of enslaved Afro Americans to receive reparations. It all basically comes down to one’s own principles and courage. Neither of which Donalds has. There’s one thing that Donalds deliberately and continuously does when talking about Jim Crow is say that it ended in 1964. He claims it ended with the passing of LBJ’s Civil Rights Act. He purposely leaves out the Voting Rights Act which was passed in 1965. This act really ended a major Jim Crow law. The March from Selma occurred in March of 1965. Some might say I’m nitpicking, but I don’t believe that Byron is ignorant of this fact. He’s purposely putting it at 1964 so he can continue to spin much of the dangerous narratives he spins. He did that before when he first started mentioning Jim Crow and got himself in trouble. The problem was jokers like Joy Reid harped on the wrong things which was focused on gaslighting his comments for their personal bootlick gains.

If those folks feel some type of way about handing out cash, then distribute arable, fertile land to the eldest progenitors of the lineage. We were enslaved for about 250 years, so we should be exempt from paying taxes on this land for at least half of that time. Not to mention the psychological damage that has been done to generations of black men, women and children who was told that they were not even human, and treated like animals. Families broken by constant buying and selling and killing, and rapes . Then Jim crow?This is the very least this nation can do to attempt to right the wrongs that have been done to us. The native American got reparations, the Japanese Americans got reparations, and the Jewish holocaust lasted less than 7 years, and they got reparations. In the constitution in the 14 amendment it says that the federal government will not held liable for slavery.
The problem is they paid the slave owners for losing their property = the slaves. The 14th amendment also says the government shall NOT pay any debt incurred as the result of an insurrection. Well we know that isnt true.

Tim Black believes that Blacks that were actual slaves should be "paid" for being a slave. The problem that you have with this is that - WHEN do you apply the cutoff for who gets reparations. Do free Blacks at the time get reparations? There were black slaveowners...do they get reparations? What's the criteria? And just like he said, you don't have a choice sometimes where/how your Federal Government spends money, but you do have a right as an citizen to protest against certain spending. This is what he's missing - what if Asians decide that they don't want to pay for reparations?
