Definitely one of the best DW animations. The team behind it really took advantage of the creative freedom they had, which gives Macra an advantage over other ME animations. Despite some of the earlier animations like Tenth Planet having cool Manga/Anime styles, they're really more like motion comics based on these episodes. Macra's more cartoony and dynamic, and gave new proper life to a throwaway dw villain
I recently rewatched the animation and I still love this animation. It’s so smooth and the creative freedom makes the story better for me especially with the Macra. I don’t want to diss the original production team but the original Macra didn’t look great but the animation gave them legs and made them properly intimidating and I’m happy with that
Of all the Animated releases so far, this has to be one of my favourites, though it wasn’t the one I wanted to watch the most (that was the two stories surrounding the first regeneration due to not being around at the time they were originally shown) the animation is just superb in Macra and it’s great getting both colour and Black and White versions on the Blu-Ray as it shows just how much effort went into the production of the animation and gives a good idea of just how colourful the series could have been in the 60s had the BBC been recording and transmitting in colour back then.
I really enjoy this animation. The liberties taken really enhance the story, and because if this Im a huge fan of the macra terror, a story that was often overlooked and seldom talked about before being animated. Really enjoying your video series!
The Macra animation is great. I think the nondescript dark locations / finale let it down somewhat - but those are faults of the original TV serial. For my money, The Faceless Ones is better - it makes a very pokey 'small set' TV broadcast look as 'jetset' and 'swish' as it should - with a strong story to match, and the 'upscaling' of Fury From The Deep, in the Maundsel Sea Fort 'Hive' sequence and helicopter escape gives it the horror impact of Hammer's movie adaptation of 'Quatermass II' - which really does Fury a great service.
Yep this animation is one of the best. My favourites are still the Power of the Daleks 2020 edition and the Moonbase though, the black and white feel is just excellent.
While I think this animation is very smooth and well done, it kind of loses the element that appealed to me the most about the original Macra Terror, which was the endearing campiness of the affair. It's never been one of my favorites overall, especially in the second half where it loses steam after the "big reveal", and the most appealing aspect of the story for me before its animation was the charming campy presentation, from the cheerleader chants and jingles to the "rejuvenation" scenes at the spa in episode 1. While I think the story still flows well enough without the latter, it feels like a certain "60s-ness" of this story has been lost and just makes me yearn for the original Episode 1 to turn up in its shambling original glory.
Shame this serial didn’t generate enough sales that Sun & Moon were considered for any more stories after this, even if they did cut sequences for time it’s still well done. Although I don’t consider this the best animation at all, I feel that distinction belongs to either The Invasion or Fury From the Deep.
I was very surprised to see just how much they removed and changed. I've assuming they even had to add that pre-titles scene in episode 1 just to bump up the run time a bit more
they did. for some reason it's not brought up as much as the removed scene from The Power of the Daleks Special Edition. I'm on the fence as to whether I'm okay with them having removed the scene or not

It really helped elevate an otherwise decent classic who story imo

Informative and entertaining video. I thought this animation benefitted greatly from the reimagining of the Macra.

There's no such thing as Macra!
Seriously though, this is the best animation

Easily the best animation, if only they could all be this good
@white pup It was rushed due to covid I think. So sad bc Power of the Daleks is one of the best Dr who stories ever
@white pup I agree but I doubt it'll happen bc they've already sold it to us twice, people would be like wtf again
The best animated one
Silly WhoStudios, there are no such thing as macra

@@SamThomas_YT if I get around to making another Animation Comparison it’s certainly gonna make for a very interesting video.
but they cut an entire scene...
they did. for some reason it's not brought up as much as the removed scene from The Power of the Daleks Special Edition. I'm on the fence as to whether I'm okay with them having removed the scene or not
@@SamThomas_YT well i am. because its a part of it.
It's very good but CUTTING SCENES IS A NONO.
I hate that they destroyed the eps goddamnit! Goddamnit!!!!
