didn’t know what to expect when first seeing sam, but he’s gotta be one of my favourites of all time. “are you a child of divorce?” is still one of the funniest lines ever on taskmaster
Every season there is one comedian I've never heard of in my life who ends up becoming my favorite. Sam was this season, then you've got Ed Gamble, John Kearns, Fern Brady (Okay, so two that season), etc.
One of my favorite moments of Sam’s was during a prize task where he just told a random story about airplanes just because everyone was telling a story, but it had nothing to do with the task
I had forgotten how amazing this season was, each contestant was fully unhinged in a very specific and unique way and yet they all matched so well with each other
Usually, winning the series comes at the expense of being entertaining. It's less fun to watch people win than their abject failures, but Sam's one of the few contestants that I could see as being the highlight of their series while also coming out on top. Then again, 16 was so stacked that anyone could be the highlight. Love this guy.
It was such a dramatic change compared to Mae who was just dull the whole way through. I’ve always wanted an all losers season as the antithesis to champion of champions because the losers of the seasons are often the funniest. I’d die for a season with Roisin, Ivo, Lucy, Joe Wilkinson and Victoria Coren Mitchell as the cast.
@@thomasthomasson2319 interestingly I was looking at Jack Bernhardt's objective VS subjective contestant scores earlier and Sam actually did the second worst in subjective tasks this series, with Sue being not only the best in the series, but the sixth-best of all time; however, that's countered by the fact she is tied with David Baddiel for the worst objective score of all time. Then again I maintain Morgana was extremely overscored and she also didn't have that high of a score in subjective tasks 😅
@@KyIieMinogue while it's established Loser of Losers will never happen, I agree, COC III seemed like it was going to be pretty disappointing, I think Kiell subbing in for Mae helped a lot. Also, I heard Alex Horne fancies you, and Greg likes your hot antipodean breath on his belly button.
alex's reaction when sam said "of equal weight" tells me he sincerely wishes he had thought of that in developing that task, and the *shock* on his face for that brief moment it looked like sam was right.
Sam was beyond any doubt, my favorite contestant on Taskmaster. What a quick witted guy. Watching him break down during the driving task was so hilarious.
Sam stirred up everything about TM and its conventions like no other contestant if you ask me. Also, if you watch the series again, watch how Sam eventually disarms everyone and releases the most genuine laugh out of everyone on the show at least once.
Sam seems to relax more and more every episode, as if he dares to be himself more and more. He seems to be a really clever guy with a huge heart, just lovely.
@@KatieRuby It's the combination of the fact that it's a non-sequitur - knowing whether or not Greg's parents are together has no impact on how heavy the boot is - and the fact that it's a weirdly personal question. Not a reference to anything in particular, just a bit of Sam Being Charmingly Weird
Sam's synaptic network is basically the many SpongeBobs running around and everything's on fire, but instead of absolute panic, everyone's just having a good time.
24 minutes 12 seconds better be EVERY Sam appearance in the series. He was absolutely brilliant and I think the archetype of what you want in a Taskmaster contestant. Sam Campbell and James Acaster. “Are you a child of divorce?” “My eyes are circles.”
@@seandunne1820 It's there, try to search for his name on the podcast page and you'll see it, it was a live episode. Lucy Beaumont's Off Menu episode was also great, it was also live and came out around the same time as his, they both came out a bit after the series ended. Unfortunately YT doesn't allow links 😬
I always thought Sam is hilarious but assumed it wouldn’t translate across the the pond so much as he’s very much the type of comedian that we love down under and thought it might be a little too niché. So good to see the UK loves him as much too!
I do really enjoy Superkins with the welly, She's clearly doing a bit to pretend that it's far heavier than it is, only to notice part way through that it IS really heavy.
The next Champion of Champions episode is going to be something special when John Robins and Sam Campbell go up against each other (and the other 3 Champions)!
I don't have a "favorite" contestant every season, but I do develop a crush on someone every season, and even though I'm a straight man, Sam was mine for series 16. The man was a gold mine of fun, and I'll be utterly delighted when he comes back for Champion of Champions.
“How deep does this go, Wokoma?!” “These are diamond chicks!” “Smoking kills…WEAKLINGS!” “My grandad gave this to me and he was in the Hindenburg!” “Are you a child of divorce?” This man is a quote *MACHINE!*
The fact that their first driving lesson is teaching them red means go, yellow means beep your horn and carry on and green means wait 3 seconds then go makes me fear for England's traffic safety if these two ever do get licenses
When I first saw Sam (on this show) I didn't like him. I thought the guy looks like Christopher Walken, he's all grey, he's weird and I rarely see him smile. Now I absolutely LOVE ALL of his stuff!!!

interupting the show for permission to ask a question only to ask THAT is just the most fantastic moment

Sue Perkins was nothing special imo
@@timrthoward7007 Best insults of Alex. Not extremely creative, but wholly heartfelt.
@@timrthoward7007you need someone relatively normal like Sue to show how batshit the rest of the cast are

Sam's dedication to wearing grey in each episode just to say "It was all getting a bit grey" in episode 10 was too good
The gray area
Is that an idiom or something? I just thought it was a goofy weird thing to do.
@@Narokkuraiikr, very goofy and weird. Extremely out of character for someone like Sam.
Honestly, I never noticed his clothes. I thought he was just talking about his hair.
He wanted to wear white but couldn't because of production and said he was happy with the grey in the end.
The fact this doesn't even include "cobalt!" and "dynamite chicks" and the roomba task... y'know, every second of Sam Campbell is his Greatest Moment.
Don't forget the "Post-it Note Painting' task. He rendition of 'THE SCREAM' was amazing and incredible (according to other contestants)!
“Cobalt!” while halfway standing up, followed by the anecdote of the flight path statue is just top notch TV
Sam remembering watching Julian on aussie TV as a kid was very sweet
Only for Julian to remark totally deadpan that it was “not one of his career highlights” 💀💀💀
Well, _Hey Hey It’s Saturday_ was rubbish, and I watched it for years from 1971 until I moved out of home in 1985.
