You didn't mention the 979 is an ssb radio just like the 959 and the 2147 I am partial to the outbanding 99vdx compared to the " cb" models which tend to drift and the 99v does not being uhf breed

Al arel super loud & clear with strong clean output watts along with great sensitive receivers..WITHOUT Modifications The only thing needed is to crap can the original mic for an ASTATIC D-104 M-6B preferably the older style then your audio will be outstanding as its now crystal clear.. the older models with the grey laser written ASTATIC letters are the best as they had been made in USA however the new are china crap but still better than stock. I can go on but these are the top best Galaxy radios ..! speaking from ownership of all listed above save the Saturn turbo & the DX-95T..& DX-98 VHP. galaxy=RCI RANGER MADE!
The base model is way too expensive. I think $200 tops would be reasonable. Some of the mobiles described would make a better base.
