die mc kinley ist eine wanderdühne vor dem herren, selbst wenn man sie vom "prüfplatz" kauft ändert sie je nach temperatur die frequenz bis zu 240hz,was in ssb extrem nevig ist,die kiste ist absolut nicht empfehlenswert!!! the mc kinley is a travelling dune in front of the master, even if you buy it from the "test station" it changes the frequency depending on the temperature up to 240hz, which is extremely annoying in SSB, the bucket is absolutely not recommended!!!
The problem with citizens band is the power limitation. Get the best antenna you can and at best you'll get 2 miles. Makes sense for truckers and off roaders. But the functionality of the units is just a matter of choice. The FCC is way behind the times on CB.
I have had he Bearcat 980 for several years ... SSB range is excellent but weather dependent. Standard CB AM works fine and way more than 2 miles with a good antenna.
@ it's line of sight. So even if you're broadcasting across the surface of water you're getting at best 5 miles. But I live in the mountains and CB sucks because it's not allowed to use repeaters like the 2m amateur band (and they gatekeep that band hard). The lack of repeaters makes it not that useful in terrain. But as I say it's fine for wheeling and truckers.
@@Dr_Kenneth_Noisewater Not true with SSB ... I have had communications from Canada down to the southern states ... Yes line of sight is a problem with the "standard" radios... But on the road, I only need a couple 3 miles ahead from a traffic perspective.
50 years of trucking, and I still use mine. 😊😅
The cool thing about cb today is hardly anybody on now. Years ago in the 70s and 80s it was jam packed
My 980 SSB had came out of the box unable to transmit on side band. Now we'll see how good Uniden's customer service is.
With a set of tuned dual center load antennas you can get almost 14 miles range.
Buy Two Way says the 980 has been discontinued?
I'll stick with my Rci 2970dx 100w
The 980 was an awesome radio, but the dreaded failed display has finally reared its ugly head after 12 years. I don’t plan on getting another 980.
